Chapter 259: Chapter 207 Solution_1
"My dear lady, do not limit your gaze to just the Spring Bud Forest, how vast is this world? Outside of Spring Bud Forest, there is the Court of Summer, and beyond that, there are three other royal courts. Beyond the Fairy Wilderness, there’s the Material Plane, isn’t it? Where are there not members of the Fae Race? And our Dragon Oak Dream Realm, our War Giant Tree of Dragon Oak, is unique. With the Phoenix Tree, are we not certain to attract the Golden Phoenix?"
Gaven’s face was filled with an irrepressible pride as he said, "To the east of the Rocklands is Kosoman, the largest forest belonging to Felen, which is dozens of times the size of Spring Bud Forest and home to millions of the Fae Race. Even if we could mobilize just a fraction of them, it would surpass the entire population of Spring Bud Forest."
He had finally found it, the perfect opportunity to bind Lord Virginia and Spring Bud Forest to his own chariot of war.
To drive the War Giant Tree into action, she would have to give her full support to his expansion plan in Kosoman.
The newly committed Lord Virginia was too engrossed in future plans to correct Gaven’s address or mind the large hand he was making a nuisance of on her body. She furrowed her brow and posed a new question, "Even if we can bring in new Fae Race to join us, Spring Bud Forest can only support so many. We cannot possibly sustain a population of millions."
"You’re thinking too small, too small. Why can’t you get beyond the concept of just Spring Bud Forest?" Gaven lead Lord Virginia to expand her thinking, "What are we trying to use as the main control system for the War Giant Tree of Dragon Oak?"
"The Dragon Oak Dream Realm." Virginia replied instinctively.
"Exactly," Gaven emphasized, "We are talking about dreams. Who says you must be at the Dragon Oak Mother Tree or in Spring Bud Forest to enter the dream realm? What we need to do later is not just within the Dragon Oak Mother Tree, Spring Bud Forest, Fairy Wilderness, or the Material Plane, but even the higher planes. Anyone should be able to enter the Dragon Oak Dream Realm through dreams. By then, will we still need to worry about the issue of souls?"
With every word Gaven said, a spark of realization brightened in Lord Virginia’s eyes.
For her, this was the opening of a whole new world.
To Gaven, this was not any sort of original invention.
It was merely transitioning from a local network to a connected one, albeit through the means of dreams.
But with the proposal of a new method, new problems arose. Virginia asked, "But how do we accomplish this? We can’t even do it in Spring Bud Forest right now."
"Where there’s a will, there’s a way. Just because we can’t do it now, doesn’t mean we won’t be able to in the future. Didn’t we piece together the Dragon Oak Dream Realm bit by bit?" Gaven had merely offered a direction of thought, without a ready solution, yet he still had full confidence in this matter.
Because he suddenly remembered something.
Last year, the Illusion Goddess Laila, known for her schemes, was killed by the God of Conspiracy, Shylock, with the Divine Calamity Sword at Black Feather Bridge in Feather Wing Valley, and had her divine office taken.
But deities are never so easily vanquished, even those with just a feeble divine power.
Especially Laila, who was famously full of guile.
In the moment of her death, she sent out a fragment of her godhood, ensuring that the God of Conspiracy could not easily take her divine office in a short amount of time.
And indeed it was so. Shylock, merely because of his main godhood in conspiracy, merged most of the guile divine office but was unable to completely incorporate the illusion divine office until he was imprisoned and judged. Many of Laila’s loyal followers still firmly believe that Laila had not perished as a deity.
Being struck down was just another of her illusions, a new deceptive ruse to mock and play with the God of Conspiracy, Shylock.
The Divine Arts they had always been able to exercise were the best proof.
Laila indeed had not died, but it was also incorrect to say she was unscathed and fully alive.
She possessed a fragment of Godhood, located near the Rocklands.
If they could find this Godhood Segment and integrate it into the Dragon Oak Dream Realm, they believed their current problems would melt away.
After all, illusions and dreams often overlapped, and the Illusion Goddess Laila was frequently mistaken for the Goddess of Dreams in the past.
The pressing issue now was to locate the whereabouts of this fragment of Godhood—Gaven knew only the general area but not the exact location.
The reason Gaven was so clear about this matter was that in his past life, the Shylock Faction of the Santarin Association to which he belonged had been actively searching the area, but they had never managed to locate it.
This had a lot to do with the nature of illusions—the area containing the Godhood Segment was bound to be rife with illusions, concealing itself deeply.
Another factor was that the influence of the Santarin Association around the Rocklands had always been severely limited; they had no way to organize a full-scale search as they could in the Moon Sea Region.
In this regard, Gaven now had the advantage they lacked, and when the time was ripe, he would be able to dispatch a large force of the Fae Race search parties.
As for the Gnoll search parties, Gaven did not even consider it.
With their meager Perception, even if the Godhood Segment of the Illusion Goddess were placed in front of them, they wouldn’t be able to detect it, simply toyed with by the illusions.
Lord Virginia, although unaware of the plan brewing in Gaven’s mind, felt imbued with confidence after hearing his words.
This confidence was not unfounded but was based on the miracles the man before her had wrought recently.
He not only rose to power in the Rocklands with a host of Gnolls by the sheer force of his own will but he also helped her break through years of stalemate, offering hope of a counter-offensive—to reclaim the ancient lands from the Foul Giants.
All of this hinged on the ability to activate the War Giant Tree of the Dragon Oak, only such a war weapon, fearsome enough to make gods tremble, could threaten the Ancient Evil Fairy Realm sealed under the Black Forest.
Looking at the drastically changed Dragon Oak Mother Tree, Gaven suddenly remembered a new question, "What about those from Floral Speech Village, who used to live in the Dragon Oak Mother Tree? Were they affected?"
To this, Lord Virginia’s eyes revealed an unmistakable pride as she said, "When the Dragon Oak Mother Tree entered its war state, although most of the adjustments were spontaneous, we didn’t just stand by in the Dragon Oak Dream Realm. They didn’t suffer any harm, in fact, some parts have been rebuilt by us. Come, let me show you... Let go, you don’t really want to just drop down there, do you?"
"I wouldn’t mind at all, it’s your comfort I’m concerned about," Gaven chuckled.
He could sense a new change in Lord Virginia’s demeanor—it wasn’t merely about accepting him anymore.
Their relationship had evidently progressed further, hence the bolder and more explicit language in their conversation.
"If you make a mess again, I’m going to get angry," Lord Virginia warned with a serious expression, which was undermined by the tender look in her eyes.
That only further provoked Gaven’s interest. He loved to see her so serious, and felt even more accomplished when she melted into spring water.
"We’re discussing something important here!" Lord Virginia, flustered by Gaven’s shameless behavior, admitted she was somewhat at a loss. After all, her body’s reactions were out of her control, and she did enjoy the sensation.
"Haven’t we always been talking about serious matters?" Gaven said with a straight face, though his actions were anything but.
"Let’s wait until we’re free, alright?" Lord Virginia softened her tone, pleading softly, "I’m really quite tired now and can’t handle another round of that."
"Next time, we’ll try this place." Gaven took a step back, knowing that Virginia was speaking the truth.
It’s said that there are no exhausted fields, only worn-out oxen.
But it also depends on whether the field is fertile or poor, and whether the oxen are sturdy enough.
The recently reawakened Lord Virginia simply couldn’t withstand Gaven, the energetic and robust ox’s repeated toil—especially after that unprecedented, intense battle.
It made Virginia feel as though her body had been shaken to pieces.
"This..." Such unrestrained behavior was somewhat difficult for Lord Virginia to accept.
"If you disagree, we can try it out right now," Gaven threatened with his actions.
Virginia paled in fright and hurriedly agreed, "Fine, fine, I promise you."
She knew when Gaven got wild, there was nothing he wouldn’t dare to do; she had no choice but to stall for time.
"Hehe..." Satisfied, Gaven let go of Virginia for the moment, allowing her to tidy up her appearance.
Then, he flew toward the Dragon Oak Mother Tree, now in its war state.
Observing it up close was a different sensation altogether.
From a distance, it looked like pulsing green veins.
But there wasn’t actually any green liquid flowing through. Instead, these were the hollows of the Dragon Oak War Giant Tree.
Indeed, massive life force was surging here, but it was at most mist-like, not even as dense as the ever-present mist that enveloped the Fairy Wilderness.
The cavities weren’t empty; rather, they housed numerous exquisitely crafted little tree houses belonging to Pikespirits, Flower Spirits, and Little Fairies.
Some stayed suspended in mid-air like those in Nectar Village.
Most were embedded into the tree crevices, becoming one with the Dragon Oak War Giant Tree.
Just like in non-war times, the Dragon Oak Mother Tree still bore a profusion of flora.
Before, it had merely streamlined its body. The creatures that lived on it were unconsciously protected and moved to regions more suited to their existence.
Now, rather than being sparsely scattered as before, they were more densely arranged, more orderly, and showed more layers.
The Pikespirits’ Nectar Village and the Flower Demons’ Floral Speech Village, which used to be on two separate trunks four or five kilometers apart, were now neighbors—one above, one below—each less than a hundred meters apart and belonging to different main branches.
As Gaven and Lord Virginia drew closer, not only did a multitude of the Fae Race fly out warily.
Some of the large trees revealed time-worn faces within their trunks.
That indicated they were no longer just trees, but had become Treants, like Thornspike.
After identifying Gaven and Lord Virginia, these ancient faces showed friendly smiles. The trunks swayed as if they were greeting and saluting, then disappeared without a trace once more.
This development was unexpected, yet made perfect sense.
The terrifying life force emanating from the segments of the Dragon Oak Mother Tree it had discarded was so great that even the smallest leak was more than enough for the creatures living on it to thrive.
Especially deliberately fostered by the Mother Tree, it would surely bring forth numerous Guardians to protect its vast body from being breached from within.
The trees that had grown on it for who knows how many years were the most ideal candidates.
Gaven turned to Virginia and asked, "Exactly how many trees on the Mother Tree have seized the chance to be enlightened into Treants?"
"Just over a hundred on the main body, but there are up to a thousand Enlightened Trees. There are two thousand various sentient creatures, and we haven’t finished counting those in the surroundings yet, but there should be even more rushing over this way," Virginia provided a rough figure, clearly without having had the chance to count in detail.
Hearing this, Gaven adjusted his vision and looked downward. Sure enough, he saw countless slow-moving figures making their way toward the Dragon Oak Mother Tree’s location.
There were newly awakened Treants as well as creatures whose eyes sparkled with the light of intelligence.
These creatures came from various races, some carnivorous and some herbivorous, yet they did not fight upon meeting each other; instead, they peacefully moved in the same direction.
In the future, they would all be part of the Dragon Oak Mother Tree and act as part of its defensive mechanism.
