Chapter 246: Chapter 195 Enlightened Treant_1

But it hadn’t died; new branches had already sprouted from its main trunk, a milky white tinged with beige.

This was a blackwood tree, known as Zalanta back in Gaven’s old home of Thacel, famous for its black timber and bark.

The blackwood tree had a single main trunk and would then send out eight or more roots branching into the ground, spreading like an open palm.

This meant that the trunk of the blackwood tree was very tall and very straight, like a sword thrusting straight into the sky, generally exceeding twenty meters in height, and the oldest of them could even surpass forty meters.

The blackwood tree before them was old enough, its roots thick enough for two people to embrace, and under normal circumstances, it should have reached a height of forty meters.

But the Carrier Bug’s impact had greatly diminished it; now it was just over twenty meters tall, less than thirty meters.

Blackwood trees were a subtropical specialty, very common in Thacel, but almost unseen in the north.

This place was the Fairy Wilderness; one couldn’t assess it by the distribution of the material plane.

Blackwood was hard yet easy to work with, having many uses in the south: for making carriages, stretchers, and wheels. Many southern mages and magicians preferred to craft staffs, magic wands, and wands from blackwood, both durable and attractive. These products were commonly christened with the name blackwood.

However, its primary use was for ships, especially as masts for large ocean-going vessels, renowned for their enduring utility.

This blackwood tree had proved that with its actions.

If it had been any other tree, it would likely have been flattened by the Carrier Bug, rather than pierced.

The Carrier Bug was just out of luck.

Gaven sat cross-legged in front of the blackwood tree, hands resting on one of its roots, well-practiced.

He had now amassed abundant experience in Enlightenment. The task was becoming increasingly simpler, especially the first step of making contact with the initial consciousness.

Now, he didn’t even need to search for the initial consciousness of the Enlightenment target; as soon as he activated the Enlightenment spell and made contact, those initial consciousnesses would proactively seek him out, expressing their affinity for him.

The reason was simple: every influence was bidirectional.

As Gaven imparted wisdom to the trees, they too would feed back their natural essence to him.

Other benefits Gaven had yet to notice, but the affinity these natural plants—flowers, herbs, trees—had for him, he could clearly feel. Sometimes, when he was lost in thought, he could almost hear the faint initial consciousnesses speaking to him, expressing their closeness.

This sense of affinity was even more intense in the blackwood tree, and even its initial consciousness felt much more powerful to Gaven than those of other trees.

It gave Gaven the illusion that even if he hadn’t come to enlighten it today, it wouldn’t have taken long for it to awaken its own wisdom consciousness.

The benefit of a strong initial consciousness was clear: at the very least, the transfer of enlightening knowledge was much faster.

The enlightening knowledge was something Gaven had long since prepacked, and even prepared different versions.

How much enlightening knowledge could be transferred was not for Gaven to decide but determined by the initial consciousness.

The stronger the initial consciousness, the more enlightening knowledge transferred, and vice versa.

When he first enlightened the Twilight Guardian, he used the highest version, packing almost all of Zhang You’s memories of study and work from that era.

The trees in the Rocklands that he enlightened were given the basic version, at most equivalent to Zhang You’s elementary school graduation. A few slightly better ones only reached the level of the first or second year of middle school.

The blackwood tree gave Gaven a small surprise; once the basic version was transferred, the Enlightenment didn’t stop there. It began transferring the elementary version (middle school), then the advanced version (high school), followed by Transcendent (university), and finally Legendary (entering society and parts of the memory of the Legendary Warrior).

Gaven had only divided this into six versions, progressively, with each version acting as an update patch that could only be ’installed’ after the previous one was ’digested’.

Eventually, the blackwood tree managed to consume only half of the Legendary version. When its initial consciousness reached saturation, a torrent of Life Force from all directions converged upon the blackwood tree.

The flowers and trees around it swayed in the wind, as though cheering in celebration of a forest companion’s awakening of wisdom, each sending a bit of their own Life Force as a gift.

A vast power poured down from above Gaven’s head.

However, it didn’t infuse directly into the blackwood tree; instead, it took a tour through Gaven’s body before being channeled into the tree.

This was the power of the Dragon Oak Mother Tree.

Compared to the Dragon Oak Mother Tree, the blackwood was just a sapling. Even a fraction of Life Force from the Mother Tree was enough for it to benefit from.

Even the initial consciousness was enhanced and fortified, managing to devour the remaining half of the Legendary Enlightenment.

Crack! Crack! Crack!

Loud snapping noises emanated from the blackwood tree.

These were the sounds of growth.

The once bare blackwood tree was rapidly sprouting new branches and growing new twigs.

But rather than increasing in height, it was diminishing, and its circumference was expanding. More than ten of the roots fell away, leaving behind only the six thickest ones.

The main root began to extend horizontally and thicken, with four roots moving downwards and the position of two rising higher, resembling two arms.

The figure slightly resembled the Dragon Scale Oak, like a Giant Dragon with four claws touching the ground.

The bark of the blackwood tree also developed layer upon layer, closely resembling Dragon Scales.
