Chapter 200: Chapter 162 Life Sharing Contract_1

"That’s wonderful!" Anna’s round face was filled with barely concealed exuberance, "If that’s the case, then the fire must not have harmed them. My childhood friends must still be living happily in their Fairy Kingdom, right?"

"Perhaps," Lord Virginia gave a noncommittal answer.

Not all Fae Race live in the Fairy Wilderness; many also reside in the Material Plane.

She found it hard to let the girl before her with such a pure Soul Consciousness be saddened and didn’t have the heart to say it, at least allowing her to keep a sliver of hope.

Hearing their conversation, Gaven appeared pensive and asked, "Lord, if Miss Anna truly once made a contract with the Fae Race, could it affect the casting of spells? For instance, lead to unstable spells with random side effects, like Fairy mischief."

"That shouldn’t be the case, I have never heard of such a situation," Lord Virginia looked at Anna with astonishment, "Do you have such a condition?"

"Yes!" Speaking of the side effects of Healing Spells, Anna’s face immediately turned very troubled, "Ever since I learned to Cast Healing Spells, I’ve never been able to cast a normal one; there’s always some inexplicable issue, and I’ve never figured out where the problem lies."

"Lord, is there a way to help Anna determine if she really has made such a contract before? After all, she was very young at the time, and her memory might not be completely accurate, especially under the influence of adults repeatedly altering it," Gaven seemed very concerned about the matter.

The issue of Anna’s Spells having side effects had always lacked any clues, but now that they might have found a lead, they naturally weren’t going to let it go easily.

"This..." A flicker of conflict and hesitation crossed Lord Virginia’s elegant face.

Gaven immediately guessed what was going on; Lord Virginia indeed had a way, but it surely involved contacting the Soul.

Because of her own experiences, she had become very sensitive to Soul contact, fearing further mishaps.

The considerate Anna, noticing Lord Virginia’s expression of difficulty, hastily said, "There’s no need to trouble Lord, I’m already accustomed to it, and the side effects have their uses. In many situations, they can help Mr. Gaven."

With that, Anna made Lord Virginia feel somewhat embarrassed. Shaking her head, she said, "It’s not that it’s trouble, it’s that it involves exploring the state of your Soul Consciousness, and I might glimpse part of your privacy, especially from the past. If you don’t mind, I can help you check it.

Virginia was not one to simply avoid her responsibilities.

On the contrary, her reason often triumphed over her emotions. Even when her memory had been tampered with, she had never submerged completely, which was the best proof—her Will was terrifyingly strong.

Exploring the Soul and memories through Soul contact had always been an important skill of hers, and she couldn’t give it up simply because of the accident that occurred with Gaven.

In her eyes, Anna was a potentially excellent test subject.

This was an opportunity to determine whether the problems lay with the Soul exploration or with Gaven himself.

"I don’t mind," Anna answered crisply.

Virginia extended her slender, white, onion-like fingertip, touching Anna’s forehead, and a green glow blossomed there.

Like the roots of a large tree, it traced along Anna’s forehead and spread throughout her body in every direction.

It didn’t take long for it to reach every nook and cranny of Anna’s body, casting a pale green light around her.

Virginia’s soft voice echoed in Anna’s ear: "Concentrate, remember the times you spent with your Fae friends... Yes, that’s right, just like that..."

As Anna’s recollections progressed.

Her expression began to change, a smile of genuine happiness blossomed on her face.

Clearly, she was recalling the joyful moments spent playing with her Fae friends as a child.

The reputation of the Fae Race among Humans is complicated, a mix of good and bad.

Especially between children and adults, it shows a stark polarization. Even some adults maintain fond memories of the Fae from their own childhoods.

This dichotomy is largely due to the extreme polarization within the Fae Race itself.

Faeries are either very good or very evil, with few occupying the middle ground. These traits aren’t fixed and can even transform into one another—this is related to their susceptibility to environmental factors that easily sway them.

Beyond this, your treatment of them can play a significant role in how Faeries respond to you, aside from their inherent nature.

There are no shortage of stories about inherently evil Faeries who choose to protect pure and innocent Human children or the offspring of other races with their lives.

Similarly, inherently good Faeries have been known to launch deadly Attacks on adult members of Sage Races. However, more often their pranks are mostly harmless, though some can be fatal.

Anna’s joyful smile suddenly froze, turning into endless Fear as she screamed, "Fire, fire, such a great fire, hurry, someone put it out! Come quickly, come save them!"

The blaze, as if tangible, burst forth from the depths of Anna’s soul.

The green roots that had taken hold in her body were directly burnt to ashes by the fierce flames.

Virginia grunted in pain, severing the soul connection between them.

"Are you alright!" Gaven immediately stepped forward, catching Virginia in his arms.

Feeling the contact from her soul, Virginia shivered involuntarily, wanting to shy away, but her body felt somewhat weak, and she couldn’t muster her strength.

She hadn’t expected that deep within Anna’s body there would still be a spirit soul, its counterattack catching her off guard.

Gaven took the opportunity to hold her slender waist, but he didn’t take advantage of the situation, instead he asked with concern, "What exactly happened?"

"Lord Virginia, are you alright? What just happened?" The blaze on Anna’s body appeared quickly and vanished just as swiftly.

After propelling Virginia away, it disappeared without a trace, as if everything had been an illusion, and Anna appeared completely oblivious to what had just transpired.

Virginia struggled to escape Gaven’s hold, but not wanting to make it obvious in front of Anna, she could only maintain as natural a tone as possible, "Miss Anna once made a pact with the Fae Race, and it was a very special life-sharing contract. However, there seems to be a problem with that contract. The Fae creature you made the pact with has been seriously injured, almost completely destroyed. The last vestige of its spirit soul is convalescing deep within your soul. This could all be related to a great fire..."

"A fire!" Anna was startled, "Could it be the fire at my ancestral home? But I don’t have any memory of that fire! I only heard about it from my parents later. I was in the ancestral home when the fire happened, and it burned everything to the ground. When they found me, I was unscathed!"

"That’s right," Virginia nodded, "The reason you were unharmed in the fire was not because you avoided it but because your Fae friend saved you using the life-sharing contract. Yet, this doesn’t make sense. Why would the Fae that made the contract with you suffer such heavy damage? Logically, with the life-sharing contract you both signed, as long as one of you is alive, the other should not have any problems..."

As she spoke, Virginia’s face showed an irrepressible confusion, almost overturning her own conclusion.

Because Anna’s current condition did not match that of a life-sharing contract.

A life-sharing contract is all about sharing, sharing one’s life force with another being. This sharing is not one-sided but reciprocal.

This type of contract is the highest covenant of the Fae Race.

Even among them, it’s not something that can be entered into lightly; both parties must possess pure feelings and willingly consent to it. It’s something blessed by the Elf Gods and cannot be forced upon someone. At least in Felen, there are no known cases of anyone being coerced into such a contract.

Nevertheless, many evil creatures of sage intellect still try all means to attempt such a pact with the Fae, including deception.

Since most of the Fae belong to the Everlasting Kind, living for hundreds, if not thousands, of years.

Once a life-sharing contract is signed, it means the lifespans of both parties are added together and then divided between them. For shorter-lived species, this is a perfect method to extend life.

Even when the Fae are able to sign such a contract, they usually choose not to.

Anna, deep in thought, said, "Ever since that fire, I haven’t been in good health. A priest claimed I was possessed by an evil spirit and performed an exorcism for me. While my health improved after the exorcism, I’ve always felt like I was missing something ever since. Could this be the reason?"

"This..." Faced with this question, Virginia too felt a headache coming on. For her, the life-sharing contract was part of her knowledge inheritance; she’d never seen an actual case, let alone encountered such a special circumstance, and could only offer a vague response, "It’s not impossible."

Gaven, who had been listening on the side, was somewhat puzzled, particularly about the life-sharing contract, which he was guessing about based solely on its literal meaning. Now finding an opportunity to interject, he asked, "What about the side effects of the healing spell? Is there any connection with this life-sharing contract or her current special condition?"

"Are you able to cast healing spells?" Virginia inquired.

"I... I’ll try." Her voice revealed her nervousness; it was her closest brush with the root cause in some time, and the stutter that had not plagued her for a while emerged once more. After several attempts, she found her focus, and as she formed symbols and spoke incantations, pure positive energy gathered around her.

No wonder the dream realm is dubbed the domain of spellcasters.

Their strength and dexterity here exceed that of warriors, and they can use spells and divine arts without hindrance.

In contrast, barbarians or warriors find themselves with nothing in this place unless under special circumstances. Uh, only their accumulated combat skills remain, lacking the strong physical prowess. For a legendary barbarian not to measure up to a mage apprentice is truly one of the sorriest states in life.

"It’s possible now," Virginia confirmed. "The side effects of your healing spells are indeed related to your current special status. When you were gathering positive energy just now, part of that energy was siphoned off by your own soul, resulting in the incompleteness of your healing spells. When you cast healing spells on yourself or other non-healing spells, do you not have such side effects?"

"Yes, yes, absolutely," Anna nodded fervently. "The side effect is confined to healing spells. Although there’s no side effect when I heal myself, the healing effectiveness is only half the normal amount."

"That’s it, then. The spirit soul from your life-sharing contract is using this method to heal its injuries."

Lord Virginia, is there a way to completely heal the spirit soul inside me?" Anna asked with a hopeful face.

Based on her own experiences, she had complete trust in Lord Virginia’s judgement.

This filled her heart with unspeakable excitement and joy.
