Chapter 1049: Chapter 616: Ghost Witch’s Oath_2
The topic circled back to themselves, and the Night Hag was clearly very aware of her sisters’ fatal weaknesses, steering the conversation to points of their utmost interest.
Suddenly, the eyes of the Sea Hag and the Green Hag flickered incessantly, their sister’s description of the glorious future they too had longed for. However, they lacked the Night Hag’s ability to navigate and manipulate the Realm of Nightmare, a realm so unique that a mere misstep could leave even them ensnared and toyed with by the Night Hag.
Knowing their concerns, the Night Hag earnestly vowed, "We are a whole, only united are we strongest. I assure you, if we succeed, all the strength we gain will be shared with you."
Hmph!
Both hags involuntarily snorted in unison. Sometimes, they couldn’t even trust their own words, let alone the promise of another hag.
With no other choice, the Night Hag was forced to play her trump card, "I am willing to make the Hag’s Oath."
At the mention of the Hag’s Oath, the Sea Hag and the Green Hag perked up, automatically exchanging glances and saying in unison, "Good."
If there was anything left in their lives worthy of their scant trust, it was the Hag’s Oath.
This oath bore the Magic Effect and could only be issued from one hag to another. A hag’s promise to a common person, when declared as a Hag’s Oath, simply marked the start of deception. The gullible wouldn’t even know how they died.
However, the Hag’s Oath imposed significant restrictions on the hag making the vow. Selfish hags were not keen on binding themselves with such promises too lightly, so it was seldom used. For the Night Hag to volunteer signified chasing after even greater benefits that tempted her to accept these constraints.
With solemn seriousness, the Night Hag intoned, "Once I, Ilborta, unlock the Realm of Nightmare, find my daughter, and reclaim my strength, I am willing to share this strength with Zunuris and Shernad."
While making the vow, the Night Hag intentionally stretched out both hands, one left and one right, for the other hags to see.
Both hags stared unblinkingly at her hands, aware that any oath could have loopholes. The most apparent loophole in a Hag’s Oath was if it was made with crossed fingers.
This flaw could only fool the novice hags, but the two Quasi-Legendary Hags, wise to every trick in the book, wouldn’t be easily duped.
After the Night Hag finished her vow, the Sea Hag and the Green Hag couldn’t help but reveal a smile. However, the smiles were as unpleasant and unnerving as could be, yet they were oblivious to this.
"If you had done this earlier, it would’ve been simple, and we would have taken the Realm of Nightmare by now."
"It’s not too late now; next, we will definitely put in our utmost effort to help you."
With a sly grin, the Night Hag said, "If there’s no issue, let those children come ashore; we don’t have much time left."
Had the situation in Goblin Margins not been evolving so unfavorably for them, resulting in fear of prolonged delays leading to more complications, why would she bind herself with a Hag’s Oath?
A feast shared between three tastes better than when one eats alone?
"Indeed, we shall do so."
"Let us commence our plan."
In high spirits, the two hags ceased their objections. At the command, the Amphibious Army of the Far Sea Marsh didn’t blindly rush along the Wild Border River toward the Far Sea Marsh but instead sought a relatively flat riverbank on the west side to land.
The Amphibious Army from the Far Sea Marsh was also composed of two types of troops, led by the cannon fodder—just like the Lizardfolk Army—featuring green skin, big bellies, and frog-like heads known as Mad Frogmen, though more numerous, better equipped, and larger than those of Tun Marsh. The only downside was their bodies covered in pus-filled boils, making anyone with a phobia of clusters shudder, especially when they clumped together. They would be more aptly named Scabby Frogs instead of Mad Frogmen.
This fully illustrated that under the hags’ command, their conditions were much better than under the Lizard Queen, at least nutrition-wise. Though hags were inherently sadistic, with twisted and cruel natures, they revered dark dealings. When you were willing to exchange something precious, they typically kept their word, then watched as you struggled with regret.
The sacrifice of the Mad Frogmen was evident—their appearance. Only if the entire race accepted the hags’ corrupt harmonization would such collective physical alterations emerge.
The other core force was comprised of Trolls, Waterborne Trolls to be specific. Compared to ordinary trolls, these displayed sky-blue skin, with gill-like respiratory systems behind their necks and webbed feet and hands, standing even taller with an average height of over three and a half meters.
Like the Mad Frogmen, these Waterborne Trolls were also covered in pus-filled lumps, albeit less densely packed but surprisingly large. At first glance, their appearance was about sixty to seventy percent similar to the Sea Hag.
The number of these Waterborne Trolls was relatively small, just four to five hundred, with the majority being Scabby Frogs.
