Chapter 1047: Chapter 615 "Beautiful" Ghost Witches_3
The skeletal boat carried three passengers who looked like humans, though their appearance was quite well-matched with the vessel they sat upon.
On the left bow sat an old woman who appeared to be in her seventies or eighties. Even while seated, her body involuntarily hunched over. Her nose resembled that of a troll rather than a human, and her skin was a sickly green. Her hair was thick and long, so dirty that its original color was indistinguishable. It tangled together like wild vines without any order. Yet, the bare arms and the black, sharp, and lengthy claws revealed that, contrary to her fragile appearance, she was anything but weak. If you made the mistake of treating her as just an ugly old lady, death was likely not far off.
If the old woman at the left bow was merely ugly, then the one sitting opposite her was a miracle of ugliness. Her skin was as pallid as a corpse that had been soaking in water for ten days, and it was covered with slimy scales. Unfortunately, this covering was not complete, and it interwove with human-like skin, giving the impression of a fish-scale disease. Her hair hung in strands, like clumps of seaweed clinging to her head. Her human-like eyes had no eyelids or eyebrows, just large holes with eyeballs pushed into them; many tissues were exposed, and she could not close her eyes, making her look like a lifeless doll. From a distance, her body seemed frail, but in truth, she was exceptionally tall. Even seated in the boat, she towered over an average person—that is to say, the boat was much larger than it appeared but looked smaller due to its occupants.
The one between the other two was no less grotesque in body type—intimidatingly large with skin of deep blue. She had a head of black, unkempt hair and beyond her sharp fangs, she had a pair of curved devil horns on her head, which gave her an intense demonic aura; indeed, she was a demon. While the first two were evil members of the Fae race, the latter was a Demon.
These three were members of the Ghost Witch Assembly ruling over the Far Sea Marsh. The one with green skin was a Green Hag; this race of hags drew pleasure from torture, taking delight in witnessing the failures and miserable fates of other creatures, watching as they descended into the abyss of despair.
The one in the middle was a Night Hag. Once exiled from the Fairy Wilderness to The Nine Hells, they were transformed into Devils. However, their origins from the Fairy Wilderness made it easier for them to escape the grand prison of The Nine Hells and walk on the Material Plane. They were now some of the most famous ambassadors of the Lower Plane on the Material Plane and notorious Soul traders. They could use a tormenting ability called Nightmare to ensnare and affect a benign Human until he committed evil acts out of Fear and doubt. When tortured to death by Nightmares, their Souls would be captured by these Soul traders in a special tool called a Soul Bag, then smuggled past Judgment and directly sold in the Lower Plane. These Souls, enticed into sin, were worth a fortune in both Hell and the Abyss, far more valuable than those of inherently evil Souls.
As for the one epitoming ugliness, she was a Sea Hag, "the most beautiful" of all the Ghost Witches—of course, this beauty was by Hag standards. To anyone remotely normal, she was the pinnacle of ugliness. She had an innate revulsion and hatred for things of normal beauty, wanting to destroy them at any cost upon sight. In her worldview, everything was the opposite; she loved to shatter beauty, bring about despair, and induce endless Fear.
A Ghost Witch Assembly required the gathering of three different branches of hags; three of the same kind would not result in the unique abilities of an Assembly.
The three hags now, without exception, were clutching their eyes and screaming in agony as foul blood oozed through their fingers. Ghost Witch Eye had a powerful and unique peering ability, but it was closely linked to them; once destroyed, each of them would suffer 3D10 (3-30) psychic damage and remain blind for twenty-four hours.
"Remove blindness!"
Each Ghost Witch used either a Magic Scroll or a Magic Wand to cure their blindness. They were well aware of the weakness of the Ghost Witch Eye and had equipped themselves with the means to heal it.
"Ilborta, didn’t you say this scout was flawless? How do you explain this now? My High-level Invisibility Ring!" The Green Hag glared at the Night Hag with barely concealed pain; the High-level Invisibility Ring, originally her personal Magic Item, had been persuaded out of her by the Night Hag for the Frollo Demons Scout’s use, and now it was lost on its very first deployment.
"There’s always a risk once you enter the battlefield," responded the Night Hag coldly. "You saw the situation earlier. It wasn’t the Frollo Demon I summoned that exposed itself; rather, the other side had a counter to your High-level Invisibility Ring. It’s very likely they had True Sight permanently affixed to themselves or possessed a similar magical ability. It is better that it’s detected on one of the Frollo Demons rather than on you, lest you die without even knowing how."
The Green Hag’s face, the color of oily green, made it difficult for others, even her fellow hags, to discern the changes in her expression, but her hesitation in speech suggested that she considered this possibility. Her favorite pastime had always been to use her High-level Invisibility Ring’s powerful Invisibility and watch her victims’ helpless and desperate struggles from close by.
But if the other side could detect her Invisibility without her knowing, she might well be the one to fall into despair.
