Chapter 1019: Chapter 606: Battle for the Bridge of Human God_2
Therefore, under the onslaught of the catastrophic waves, the Bridge of Human-God not only showed no signs of collapse or damage, but instead became thicker and sturdier.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
After the terrifying first wave of the flood peak had struck, it was not yet over; closely following were dense and incessant crashing sounds.
Within this flood peak, a large number of logs, waterweeds, and other floating debris were swept along, naturally forming the most primitive siege weapons. This relentless barrage pounded against the walls of the Bridge of Human-God.
At this moment, everyone was grateful for the providence of Hand of Aid Mount Dakor. Thanks to his foresight, the design of the Bridge of Human-God was so unique. Without the protection of its thick walls, even this single wave could have wrought terrifying damage to the Conqueror Army, and their Tower War Chariots would not have withstood the battering of debris carried by the floodwater, let alone ordinary people. They would have been swept away from the bridge surface into the floodwater where a tragic scene awaited them. It was needless to ask—without having been drowned alive, they would likely have been harvested by the Monster Army’s amphibious creatures and become food in their mouths.
But only a few knew that the one they should be grateful for was not the God of the Road but rather Gaven, the supreme Commander of the Conqueror Army, as he was the principal designer of the bridge. Hand of Aid was merely a practical executor.
Among these collisions, occasionally mixed with flesh-and-blood bodies—those Monster Soldiers who got caught in the floodwaters, unable to change their course in time. Even if they were not immediately flattened into meat patties, they were at least left with broken bones, bleeding heads, and severe injuries. And for those unfortunate souls who collided directly with the bridge pillars below, their chances of survival were even slimmer, being sliced in half was not an uncommon fate.
More Monster Soldiers took advantage of the momentum of the flood peak to leap directly from the water a moment before colliding with the Bridge of Human-God, vaulting over the walls and landing squarely on the deck of the bridge. Among them, the Mad Frogmen, with their squat limbs, large heads, thick necks, and bodies covered in a greenish hue resembling upright frogs, were the most numerous.
They wore crude Beastskin Armor; calling it clothing or armor might be generous. It was more like a beast skin with a hole cut out in the middle, then tied around their waist with a rough seaweed rope. In their hands, they held what looked like Throwing Spears, with few having metal tips, most just sharpened stones.
As cannon fodder, few were as miserably equipped as these Mad Frogmen. Felen was relatively rich in resources. Where there were mountains, there were usually all kinds of metal ores, especially iron ore, which was the most common. Coupled with relatively developed trade, many Goblins could own one or two pieces of low-grade iron tools; nobody would use stone weapons.
The condition of these Mad Frogmen from the Lizard Court was attributable not only to their living environment but definitely also to their severely flawed business and management philosophies.
Beyond these Mad Frogmen, there were also a few Blackscaled Lizardfolk. Their faces resembled Skeletons, with their cranial crests fully extended, trembling non-stop as they roared, turning blood red with engorgement to indicate their owner’s heightened anger and tension. These crests also served as a means for the Lizardfolk to communicate personal emotions.
They were even less equipped, only wearing a Combat Belt and a Combat Belt around their waist, into which six or seven Throwing Spears were inserted. These spears were thick and long; in their hands, they were throwing spears, but in the hands of Humans, they would be as long as Long Spears. They were indeed tipped with iron, but whether in craftsmanship or material, they were very rough, clearly not manufactured by Humans or Dwarfs but likely by those monsters, probably Goblins.
But no one dared underestimate their power, as their wielders were tall and muscular, their bodies covered in exaggerated muscles. Even an ordinary wooden stick could be wielded with deadly force in their hands.
The prerequisite was that they could find the enemy. These boarders discovered only upon leaping onto the Bridge of Human-God that they had entered a vast maze created by the interspersed Tower War Chariots. The Conqueror Army’s armed settlers were huddled behind the Tower War Chariots, and before the attackers fully landed, dense volleys of arrows had already been shot towards them.
The two sides adopted different tactics in response. After landing, the Mad Frogmen didn’t stay put but, using the downward force, sprang up and shot over the Tower War Chariots that were four and a half meters tall and over three meters wide, aiming for the most densely packed areas of the armed settlers.
The hind legs of these Mad Frogmen were about seventy to eighty percent similar to those of frogs, extremely robust and muscled, the most developed part of their bodies. Their leaping ability was comparable to that of the Half-Giant Golia, related not just to their unique living environments but also to their innate physical structures.
"Back off!" Several agile figures rushed in from different directions, confronting those Mad Frogmen who had breached the first line of defense.
They were a guard squad formed by the frontline Commanders leading the strong youth of the armed settlers squads of a hundred, designed to handle such enemy incursions. Meanwhile, the armed settlers receded like the tide, in a hurried yet orderly fashion. They retreated towards the Tower War Chariots, backing against them while exchanging their Crossbows for Long Spears. Given their archery skills, in such a melee where friends and foes were intertwined, they dared not shoot arrows lightly, risk of friendly fire was too high.
