Chapter 331: Chapter 322: The Fog Fruit
Han Qiwu’s eyes lit up as he grabbed the Flash Moon Iron Axe and dashed forward, swinging it at the tree trunk with full force.
After the swing, he immediately took a few steps back cautiously, looking up at the tree and thinking, "Hope I don’t get showered with bugs."
"Rustle, rustle, rustle."
A pile of leaves fell from the tree, and a visible chop mark appeared on the white Yang Shu tree.
No weird creatures popped out.
Looks like this is a "reward tree."
Han Qiwu chuckled, instructing Xiao Dian and Xiao Lai to keep watch as he rushed over to chop the other Yang Shus.
"Clang, clang, clang."
Han Qiwu grew more enthusiastic with each chop, eventually cutting all the dozens of Yang Shu trees into wood in one go.
Total harvest: [Wood] ×62
"Not bad, but it’d be nice if there were a bit more," Han Qiwu thought greedily as he wiped the sweat from his forehead.
Perhaps due to the layout of the map, he didn’t manage to get a single drop of Frozen Tree Sap while chopping.
Instead, he got an additional rare item called [Mist Fruit].
Mist Fruits looked somewhat like wax apples—long and slender with a bulging end, their interior seemed to shimmer as though filled with mist. They looked surreal and emitted a faint, pleasant fragrance.
[Mist Fruit]
[Use: Material/Food Ingredient]
[Special Effect - Mist: When fed to a pet, there’s a chance it will learn the Mist skill.]
[Note: Mist Fruit is loved by many small animals.]
"Many small animals? What’s that supposed to mean?" Han Qiwu muttered helplessly. He’d harvested six Mist Fruits in total and handed three to Xiao Dian and three to Xiao Lai.
These two had been the MVPs today.
"Go on, eat up."
Xiao Lai, without hesitation, shoved a Mist Fruit into its mouth and devoured it in a few bites.
"Burp."
After eating, Xiao Lai let out a burp, and a puff of white mist escaped its mouth.
Under its deliberate control, the mist playfully formed a few rings, floating slowly into the sky.
Han Qiwu: "....."
Upon seeing this, Xiao Dian refused to be outdone, scarfing down a Mist Fruit and trying its hardest to blow white mist rings too.
"Pff, pff, pff."
But due to the shape of its mouth, it couldn’t pull it off.
"Darn it! Why does that meatball get to succeed, and not me?!"
Xiao Lai looked completely guiltless.
"Blame your pointy mouth!"
"Alright, alright, there will be more fruits later. Don’t stress it," Han Qiwu said, waving his hand as he started walking back down the path. But he soon realized the path extended only five more meters.
No more path?
He walked quickly to the end and saw a notification:
[Fully explore this area to unlock the remaining path.]
Alright, fair enough.
When faced with the surrounding mist earlier, he’d debated whether to follow the path or delve straight into the misty Yang Shus in search of others.
Now the choice was obvious—into the mist he went.
While chopping trees earlier, Han Qiwu had specifically checked the map. In the Mist Forest, only areas he walked through were visible on the map.
Additionally, if an area he’d walked through was still covered by mist, the map’s visibility for that spot would vanish after he left.
"Fully exploring probably means walking through the entire area between this path and the entrance," Han Qiwu speculated as he headed toward the direction of nearby Yang Shus.
"With so many supplies, worst case, I can just circle back."
After about ten steps, Han Qiwu vaguely spotted the silhouette of a plant in the distance. It looked somewhat like a chomper plant from *Plants vs. Zombies*, with a tall stem and a massive pocket-like mouth at the top.
As he got closer, Han Qiwu noticed mist continuously pouring out of the flower’s pocket. It looked ethereal and serene.
The mist emerged from its pocket and drifted upwards, spreading far into the distance.
"So you’re the culprit around here, huh?" Han Qiwu said with a grin, shouting to Xiao Dian, "Zap it for me!"
"Zap!"
Xiao Dian didn’t hesitate, striking the plant with a golden bolt of electricity.
After being hit by the electricity, the flower emitted a golden glow and displayed a message:
[Mist Flower cannot be harmed.]
"Alrighty then."
It’s completely immune to damage.
So it’s just a mist-generating decoration?
Still, letting this thing keep spewing mist isn’t ideal.
Han Qiwu pondered for a moment. "Could it be that stopping this thing from producing mist will reveal the surrounding trees on the map?"
That seemed plausible.
Combining the hints from the life skills guide, Han Qiwu roughly formulated an idea.
"Xiao Dian, Xiao Lai, search the area and see if there’s anything related to the flower," Han Qiwu instructed as he released his two pets and began searching around the Mist Flower himself.
He figured there might be some special item to block the flower’s pocket.
All he needed to do was stop the mist from escaping.
Han Qiwu picked up a stone and placed it over the flower pocket.
"Whoosh."
The mist immediately pushed the stone aside as it kept flowing out.
So, it wasn’t that.
Leaves?
Nope.
Tree branches?
Still a no.
After nearly ten minutes of searching, Han Qiwu almost dug a trench around the Mist Flower, yet he still hadn’t found the so-called "legendary grass."
"Swish, swish, swish."
A group of seven or eight Mist Caterpillars randomly crawled over and started spinning silk toward Han Qiwu.
"Get lost," Han Qiwu shouted as he instructed Xiao Dian to take them down quickly.
"Wait."
Looking at the felled Mist Caterpillars, which didn’t vanish into glowing particles, Han Qiwu suddenly had a theory.
Mist Caterpillars?
Mist Flower?
The Mist Flower bore a resemblance to a carnivorous plant, so could it be carnivorous?
Judging from the plump appearance of the Mist Caterpillars...
They should be its favorite food, right?
"So it’s you, then!"
Han Qiwu grabbed two torches and used their sticks to sandwich one of the Mist Caterpillars, then tossed it into the flower’s pocket.
"Poof, poof."
Upon sensing the Mist Caterpillar, the flower’s pocket wriggled, and its nearby leaves slowly moved over to cover the pocket.
The mist dissipated.
[Mist Flower is digesting.]
"Knew it," Han Qiwu said, though he felt a pang of regret.
All that time capturing Mist Caterpillars earlier, and he hadn’t brought any along.
Going back to gather more now wasn’t realistic.
He’d just have to remember this blunder for the future.
As the Mist Flower ceased releasing mist, the fog in the surrounding 300-square-meter area gradually cleared, restoring visibility. The ground and branches everywhere were covered in silk spun by the Mist Caterpillars.
At the same time, this part of the map lit up, revealing that at the northern edge of the area were more than twenty willows waiting to be chopped.
"Games like this really require brainpower!" Han Qiwu exclaimed as he headed toward the willows.
Soon enough, he and his two pets reached the trees.
"Xiao Dian, Xiao Lai, keep watch. If you spot any Mist Caterpillars, knock them down and mark the spots," Han Qiwu instructed before swinging the Flash Moon Iron Axe once more.
"I’m just a lumberjack with superb skills."
