Chapter 317: Chapter 308: The Little White Rabbit and the Peanut Oil

"Two hours? Then we can exercise a bit after eating." Han Qiwu rolled his shoulders and walked into the kitchen to check the de-sanding progress of the river snails.

Since the quality of the river snails was quite high, after just one or two short hours, they had already expelled most of the sand.

Ready to go into the wok now.

Han Qiwu placed the snails to the side, grabbed a pair of scissors, and snipped off the tails of the snails one by one. Then, he prepared some additional ingredients.

He was planning to make spicy stir-fried river snails.

With the addition of green Sichuan peppercorns, fresh coriander, and pepper leaves, the dish had an incredibly tantalizing aroma even before it left the wok. The rich, savory scent could be smelled from a distance.

After finishing that, he pulled out a freshly caught river fish he had reeled in earlier and quickly prepared it for steaming later.

The balance of flavors had to be just right.

When Mr. Tang visits tomorrow, he’ll roast a river fish for him to try.

Twenty-ish minutes later, Han Qiwu sat in the courtyard and happily began enjoying the spicy stir-fried river snails alongside the steamed river fish.

"Slurp—"

Han Qiwu expertly sucked out a piece of snail meat.

The chewy, springy snail meat had absorbed all the flavors of the spices – fresh, spicy, and utterly irresistible!

He downed ten snails in one go before snapping out of it, delicately picking up a piece of steamed river fish to taste next.

The steamed river fish had tender, silky flesh that melted in the mouth. The light fish pureé immediately released a subtle aroma that reached his mind, soothing the spiciness lingering on his tongue.

An impeccable pairing!

After a few bites, he grabbed a serving of frozen tree sap to enjoy as a drink.

This stuff really was addictive if you had too much of it.

It was just like tea, except you didn’t need to steep it. Right out of the freezer, it was icy cold, with first-class texture and taste.

"If the trees at home stop producing sap, getting this frozen tree sap will be a real pain," muttered Han Qiwu, a faint tinge of melancholy seeping through.

He needed to figure out a solution to this problem.

After eating his fill, he rested for a bit before heading to the animal enclosures to check on the critters one by one.

If they were thirsty, he gave them water. If they were hungry, he fed them. If they seemed unhappy, he gave them some head pats.

After soothing the animals, he returned to the courtyard and resumed tinkering with "The Age Calls Upon Us."

An hour later.

[Oil Press Completed]

Dripping with sweat, Han Qiwu smiled, grabbed a dry towel from Little Electric’s talons, and wiped himself off as he walked over to the area next to the mayonnaise machine to place the oil press there.

The hovering Little Electric looked resigned but still tightly gripped the water bottle in its claws, awaiting Han Qiwu’s next signal. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

It didn’t want to do this either.

But it agreed with what Fat Chicken said.

It needed to learn to read its master’s body language.

Only then would it get more food.

Thus, it did as told.

Hoping to earn itself extra Lightning Fish.

It felt like it was on the verge of leveling up!

Han Qiwu glanced at Little Electric, feeling rather pleased inside, thinking: "Finally, Little Electric knows how to treat its master right."

He decided he’d reward it later.

For now, though, the priority was to inspect the oil press.

The newly assembled oil press was about the size of two mayonnaise machines placed side by side. Its shape resembled those old-fashioned machines in the countryside that used to turn corn into snacks, with a large funnel on top for feeding ingredients and a thick pipe below for dispensing oil.

Han Qiwu grabbed a batch of peanuts, walked over to the oil press, fiddled with it briefly, and then pressed its start button.

"Buzz... Buzz..."

The oil press slowly hummed to life.

[Please insert oilseed crops, such as peanuts, canola, sesame, etc.]

"Sesame oil, it’s been ages since I’ve had that," chuckled Han Qiwu as he poured the peanuts down into the funnel.

[Processing oil... Estimated time: one hour. Please place a container beneath the output pipe.]

"One hour? That’s not too bad," said Han Qiwu, bending down to position a glass jar (one usually used for holding mayonnaise) under the output spout. Then, he went back into the house and grabbed *Piggy Gets Confused*, intending to read and transcribe simultaneously.

After only a few minutes, his phone buzzed twice.

Picking it up, Han Qiwu smiled.

It was a message from Mr. Tang.

Tang Qingying wrote: "I won’t be able to get there until a little after 10 AM tomorrow morning. Will you be home?"

Han Qiwu replied: "I’ll be home. Do you want me to meet you at the village entrance?"

Tang Qingying wrote: "No need; my GPS can guide me right to your doorstep."

Han Qiwu: "...."

Even the coordinates were already set?

She came prepared.

It seemed like she had planned this ever since leaving last time.

"Alright then, there will be lots of delicious food waiting for you when you arrive," Han Qiwu responded. After a moment, he added, "Still, make sure you eat some breakfast. Driving on an empty stomach might give you low blood sugar."

Tang Qingying wrote: "Hahaha, I was just about to say maybe I’d skip breakfast."

"No way. No breakfast, no entry," replied Han Qiwu, tagging along a naughty emoticon captioned: "No breakfast? No food for you."

Tang Qingying wrote: "Bleh bleh bleh."

She even attached a 3D *scared.gif* meme at the end.

At that moment, Tang Qingying, lying on her bed with her legs kicked up, debated what to bring for tomorrow.

"If I had known, I wouldn’t have taken so many trinkets from Dad today. Now I don’t even know which one to bring."

Gazing at the cornered box full of fancy knick-knacks, Tang Qingying felt a bit troubled.

"How about... bringing them all and letting him pick for himself?"

After a bit of contemplation, she dismissed the idea.

She was too kind to subject someone else to the agony of making such decisions.

She couldn’t even decide for herself; how could she expect him to?

"Han Qiwu, what’s your favorite type of small animal? Not the kind you eat," she thought for a while before messaging him.

When Han Qiwu saw the message, he was a little puzzled. "Could it be that Mr. Tang’s planning to bring me a live little animal?"

If that were the case, he definitely couldn’t go for large animals like pigs, cows, or sheep.

After thinking it through, he replied, "A rabbit, I guess."

"I said not for eating! I mean the ornamental kind," replied Tang Qingying.

Han Qiwu: "Crylaugh.gif, Yes, I understand. I really do mean ornamental rabbits."

He felt helpless. Mr. Tang truly was a foodie.

Couldn’t rabbits just be kept as pets?

Did they have to end up as spicy rabbit heads or crispy rabbit legs?

"Alrighty, got it. You get some rest; see you tomorrow. I’ve been holding off on eating strawberries for three days just to enjoy those special ones you grow!" Tang Qingying replied quickly.

"You get some rest too. Goodnight," Han Qiwu replied with a smile.

What kind of rabbit would Mr. Tang bring over?

Probably a fluffy white one, right?

"Buzz... Buzz..."

Through the window, Han Qiwu noticed a golden, faint glow atop the oil press.

"The peanut oil’s done? Let me take a look."

Walking over to the oil press, Han Qiwu twitched his nose.

How odd. There was no peanut fragrance.

In the countryside, he’d seen peanut oil being pressed before. Even before the oil was ready, the whole place would be filled with the rich aroma of peanuts.

He bent down, picked up the glass jar, and inspected it closely.

The jar was half-full of golden-yellow peanut oil, glistening beautifully.
