Chapter 309: Chapter 300: Encounter with the Ice Bird

"It’s you!"

"Pick it up!"

Han Qiwu grabbed Xiao Dian and tossed him toward the spot where the loot was scattered on the ground.

No need to waste a bird.

Hovering mid-air, Xiao Dian wore a helpless expression as he transformed into a robotic, emotionless collection machine, gathering each fallen item one by one.

Total loot: [Emerald]×11, [Yeti Essence]×19, [Yeti Fur]×6, [Ice Mushroom Pancake]×6.

Not a bad haul, primarily focused on the Yeti Essence. As for the Yeti Fur, its properties were the same as the Icy Spider Fur they obtained earlier—it could be placed in icy environments to serve as fertilizer for the terrain.

After picking up all the loot, the emerald and iron mining spots, previously blocked by the Yetis, gradually revealed themselves in the distance.

Han Qiwu’s eyes lit up as he raised a hand to summon the Snowman Miner figurine.

Upon receiving a piece of Yeti Essence, the Snowman Miner figurine hopped diligently over to the mining spot and began to dig with meticulous dedication.

"Xiao Dian, learn from that work ethic," Han Qiwu chuckled, casually taking out an Ice Mushroom Pancake and nibbling on it leisurely.

Xiao Dian: "....."

Hearing his master’s words, Xiao Dian recalled his last assigned task in the mines. Waving his wings, he flew deeper into the mining layers.

Luring monsters, here I go!

Han Qiwu didn’t stop him. After finishing his Ice Mushroom Pancake, he took out his Mother Copper Crosspick and began to dig alongside.

Twenty minutes later.

Han Qiwu took a swig of milk and wiped the sweat off his brow.

The haul from this emerald mining spot was decent—34 emeralds in total from full extraction.

Just as he was preparing to rest for a while, a sharp cry from Xiao Dian echoed through the mine.

"Chirp chirp chirp chirp!"

The sound was urgent.

It was as if a chicken in the countryside were being chased by a dog.

Following Xiao Dian’s chirps came two additional bird calls.

"There are other birds in here?" Han Qiwu instinctively grew vigilant, switching to his Mysterious Light Crossbow and pulling out Paralysis Barbs to hold in front of him. He also gave Xiao Lai a few instructions just in case. fre(e)webnove.l.c.om

About ten seconds later, Xiao Dian returned, his whole body covered in frost. He flew over frantically, shaking uncontrollably with chill, and burrowed straight into Han Qiwu’s embrace, shivering violently as though frozen to the core.

"This cold?" Han Qiwu winced at the brief chill that Xiao Dian transmitted to him and quickly took out a fire barrel, placing it nearby. He then stuffed Xiao Dian into it.

A few seconds later, two birds, entirely ice-blue in color, flew towards Han Qiwu from the same direction.

What astonished him was that these two birds’ bodies seemed to be entirely made of ice, even their eyes differing only in color, appearing as distinct ice crystals. Each bird measured approximately 1.5 to 1.6 meters in length, with a flight speed on par with Xiao Dian, exuding visible waves of cold air.

[Icebird]

[Level: 70]

[Attack Methods: Low Temperature, Ice Fog, Charge]

[Note: Icebirds have extremely long maturation periods]

"Level 70 monsters, no wonder they froze Xiao Dian like that," Han Qiwu muttered, quickly locking his aim before firing a Mysterious Crossbow Arrow and a Fishbone Arrow in quick succession.

The two arrows struck the Icebirds—one embedding into the wing of the first bird, piercing through and leaving a hole, while the other slammed into the abdomen of the second bird, creating a web of cracks.

"So their defense isn’t too high," Han Qiwu murmured with slight relief.

Just then!

"Whoosh whoosh!"

Despite the attacks, the two Icebirds pressed forward, pelting Han Qiwu with two gusts of frost-filled mist.

The mist moved swiftly, freezing the area it traveled through into blocks of solid ice.

"That’s some aggressive firepower!" Han Qiwu didn’t dare underestimate them. He turned and sprinted, narrowly dodging the twin attacks.

After running more than thirty meters, the frosty mist finally dissipated.

"That’s some heavy breath they’ve got there. Xiao Lai, take them down!" Han Qiwu shouted, pulling an untested Frost Slingshot from his inventory and loading it with stones.

Meanwhile, Xiao Lai, who had been lying in wait in the upper mining layers, unleashed two long, carefully prepared volleys of aged phlegm.

The Icebirds’ speed sharply dropped.

Han Qiwu pulled back the slingshot, briefly aimed, and released the stone.

"Bang!" .com

The launched stone struck the first Icebird, but it ricocheted weakly off, dealing a mere 160 points of damage.

"That’s it?" exclaimed Han Qiwu, sucking in a cold breath. He glanced sideways and quickly rolled to avoid another mist attack from the Icebird.

This wasn’t going to work.

A fight where you couldn’t hit your enemy would end in failure sooner or later.

Seeing an opening, Han Qiwu shouted toward Xiao Lai, who was still in hiding, "Xiao Lai, bring one of them down first!"

"Thunk!"

Xiao Lai, perched above, mustered some strength and body-slammed one Icebird flying beneath him, forcing it to the ground.

"Perfect timing!"

Han Qiwu switched to his Ice Rod, rushed forward, and bashed the Icebird’s head with it.

"Clang clang clang."

Cracks spread across the Icebird’s head, forming a dense web.

But just then, the Icebird twisted its head around and breathed another frosty mist at Han Qiwu.

"Still got the strength to attack me like this?" grumbled Han Qiwu. He quickly drank some milk, leaped onto the Icebird’s back, and pinned its neck down as he continued pounding away.

The other Icebird, seeing this, tilted its head back and let out a piercing cry before adjusting its flight and diving straight for Han Qiwu.

"Crap!"

Han Qiwu had no choice but to abandon the Icebird he was attacking and roll to the side to avoid the diving bird’s fierce assault.

The damage output from these creatures was no joke.

One wrong move and he’d be sent packing back home.

"I’d pinned my hopes on the Frost Slingshot, but this thing’s damage is pitiful..." Han Qiwu muttered to himself as he ran, brainstorming his next move.

The two Icebirds were hot on his heels, the situation growing increasingly dire.

"Wait a second."

As he ran, Han Qiwu suddenly realized something.

Had he been using the Frost Slingshot wrong?

Although the stones fired from the Frost Slingshot dealt low damage, the weapon’s advantage lay in the velocity and angles it imparted to its projectiles. If thrown by hand, Han Qiwu wouldn’t have been able to hit the Icebirds at all.

In other words, the Frost Slingshot was merely a launching tool, while the damage output depended on the projectile loaded into it.

"If that’s the case, I might as well go big!" Han Qiwu gritted his teeth and pulled out an Explosive Snowball, experimentally loading it into the Frost Slingshot.

[Loading Successful]

It worked.

Still sprinting, Han Qiwu came to a sudden stop, turned around, and drew the slingshot to full tension before releasing the high-speed Explosive Snowball.

The snowball hit one of the Icebirds squarely, detonating on impact. The mining tunnel resounded with an earth-shaking roar.

"Boom!!!"

The echoes lingered for over ten seconds as a thick shroud of icy mist rose from the explosion site.

"Did it die?" Han Qiwu tightened his grip on the Ice Rod and cautiously approached the Icebird’s location, ready to deliver a finishing blow if necessary.

One bomb not enough? Then make it two bombs!
