Farm Tough Girl
Chapter 598 - 598 599 Followed the Man Away_1

Chapter 598: Chapter 599 Followed the Man Away_1 Chapter 598: Chapter 599 Followed the Man Away_1 Madam Liu was stunned for quite a while before she said, “You, you, what did you say?”

“I saw it with my own eyes, reckon they must be sweethearts, that lad was out there waiting for her.”

At this moment, Madam Liu didn’t know whether to be happy or angry. It was rare for her daughter to like a man, which of course was cause for joy, but who exactly was this man? Tianniu had never mentioned him to her.

She wasn’t one to fuss over differences in social status; if her daughter said she liked a man, even if they were poor, the family wouldn’t refuse.

“What does that boy look like?”

The old woman was taken aback for a moment. Shouldn’t she be hurrying to catch the girl? What kind of a mother would first ask about the appearance?

After recalling a bit, the old woman replied, “He’s tall and thin, his looks quite delicate, seems like a refined person. The miss fell onto him, got up, and then pulled him away as they ran.”

A line of black marks appeared on Madam Liu’s forehead. Could her daughter be any less forward?

“Lady, aren’t you going to look for them?” the old woman finally couldn’t help but remind her.

Madam Liu sighed, “As if she would let me find her. Forget it, just wait for her to come back.”

“But what if…” the old woman eventually held back.

Madam Liu knew what she was worried about, but Madam Liu truly wasn’t concerned about that. Tianniu was well-known around Qinghua City, where she had relatives everywhere she went. Besides, she had learned some self-defense; it was unlikely that something would happen to her, probably just ran off to have some fun.

Only now there was an arrangement with Muniang, wouldn’t that be a wasted trip for her?

Madam Liu was feeling disturbed yet still went straight to the neighbor, Muniang’s home.

Muniang was just cooking in the kitchen and smiled upon seeing Madam Liu come in, “Why come so early? To give me a hand?”

Madam Liu, feeling embarrassed, said, “It’s about Tianniu, that child ran off on her own, now there’s no sign of her.”

Muniang was taken aback, “How did she run off?”

“Climbed over the wall.”

“What?”

“Probably I’ve been too suffocating these past few days, when she comes back, I’ve got to give her a good slap,” said Madam Liu, frustrated at her daughter’s behavior.

Muniang started laughing, “Let it be, that’s just her nature. She’ll naturally return after playing for a while.”

“It’s just that today…” Madam Liu was somewhat troubled.

“Don’t worry, I haven’t yet spoken to Mr. Zhao and the others about Tianniu’s situation. Just said it’s a casual visit to my house; they won’t find it abrupt,” Muniang said with a smile.

Only then did Madam Liu feel a bit relieved, “That’s good. Otherwise, they’d surely think our family lacks manners. Since Tianniu isn’t around right now, we better not join the excitement. Just invite Mr. Zhao and his family for dinner; it’d be pointless for us to come.”

Muniang quickly said, “No way, what’s the point in feeling it’s pointless? We’re all family here, why the formality? I was actually hoping to introduce someone to you.”

Madam Liu was taken aback, “Family?”

Muniang smiled slyly, “You’ll find out later, Auntie, you must come for sure, with Third Uncle. It’ll be perfect for you to check out Tianniu first and see if you’re satisfied. Anyway, Zhao Jianghe is supposed to come today.”

Madam Liu thought it made sense and, given Muniang’s earnest invitation, she didn’t refuse any further and readily agreed.

As they were talking, they heard Mr. Zhao’s voice from the courtyard: “Muniang, dear.”

Muniang quickly wiped her hands on her apron and went out to greet him, while Madam Liu took over the task at hand from Muniang.

“Has Mr. Zhao arrived? Please come in and take a seat in the house, Qingya, serve the tea.”

Mr. Zhao came in with Zhao Jianghe, carrying a bunch of things in his hands, and Muniang laughed, “Why are you bringing all this stuff? It’s just a meal.”

“Last time at the warm-room gathering, I only meant to invite you for a meal too, but you brought so much,” Mr. Zhao said with a smile.

Muniang stuck out her tongue and didn’t say much else, welcoming Mr. Zhao and Zhao Jianghe into the house. Glancing back, she noticed someone was missing and asked, “Where’s Jiangshui? Why hasn’t he arrived yet?”

Mr. Zhao was startled, “Didn’t he come? I clearly asked him to come ahead of us. What’s taking that boy so long?”

Because Mr. Zhao’s shop had been busy until now, and fearing Muniang would have to wait, he asked Zhao Jiangshui to come over first. Who would have thought he hadn’t arrived yet?

“No, not yet.”

Zhao Jiangshui indeed had been about to come earlier, but on his way past the house next to Muniang’s, Madam Liu’s place, he got caught up in a situation with Tianniu, and now he had gone up the mountain with her and Uncle Cai.

“What trouble has that boy gotten into now? He’s really not easing anyone’s mind!” Mr. Zhao cursed, “Never mind him, let’s just eat.”

Muniang chuckled and didn’t think much of it. After all, Zhao Jiangshui wasn’t the main focus today, and it didn’t matter whether he came or not.

Muniang then introduced Madam Liu and Qiao Yuanming to Mr. Zhao and his son, and they all started to enjoy their meal with satisfaction and joy.

Mrs. Lin had been talked down by her daughter earlier, and her heart was still somewhat conflicted. Now seeing Mr. Zhao, she wasn’t sure how to start the conversation. Mr. Zhao glanced at Muniang, picking up on her signal. It seemed she had discussed it with Mrs. Lin, and although Mrs. Lin hadn’t shown much resistance, it was obvious. With her personality, if she were against it, she wouldn’t have let him visit, or she wouldn’t even have shown up to see him.

It was clear that Mrs. Lin was somewhat moved, and Mr. Zhao was becoming nervous inside. He thought this might be the best opportunity to lay all his cards on the table. If he could seize this chance, he could resolve the regrets of his lifetime.

Mrs. Lin didn’t talk much, and Mr. Zhao, distracted by his thoughts, was also quiet. Zhao Jianghe wasn’t a talkative person either, so the table suddenly fell silent. Thankfully, Muniang broke the ice, and Madam Liu took the opportunity to exchange a few words with Zhao Jianghe. Seeing his honest nature and straightforward character, she felt quite good about him.

The meal passed without any rush.

After leaving the table, Muniang knew Mr. Zhao wanted to speak privately with her mother, so she purposefully created an opportunity. Madam Liu and Zhao Jianghe went out to talk in the courtyard, and Muniang, pretending to go wash dishes in the kitchen with Yu Ze, immediately doubled back as soon as they left and eavesdropped from the window corner.

Mrs. Lin felt a bit awkward: “Zhao Song, did you have something to discuss with me?”

Mr. Zhao gritted his teeth, then finally said, “Ruojuan.”

This was Mrs. Lin’s maiden name, which no one had called her for many years. Mrs. Lin was momentarily taken aback.

“Hmm? Ah?”

“Back when our two families were on good terms, my parents actually had the idea of bringing you into our family. At that time, I was quite happy about it too. You know, I’ve liked you since we were young,” Mr. Zhao said earnestly.

Mrs. Lin blushed, feeling overwhelmed, “We’re both of age, talking about liking and not liking.”
