Chapter 596: Chapter 597 Thank You, Hero, for Saving My Life_1 Chapter 596: Chapter 597 Thank You, Hero, for Saving My Life_1 “Now that you are a married woman with a husband, what need have you for parents?” said Mrs. Lin with feigned toughness.

Muniang followed her lead, “Exactly, every time I think about being a married woman, and my mother has no one to keep her company, it breaks my heart. If only I had a father to look after her, I could rest easy. Otherwise, even stepping out the door makes me anxious, fearing that my mother would be lonely by herself.”

Mrs. Lin fell silent for a while, visibly moved. She herself was quite lonely; this she knew all too well. Perhaps finding someone to marry wouldn’t be such a bad idea, it might even give her daughter some peace of mind. But she just couldn’t get over that emotional barrier.

Muniang did not insist any further. It was time to let Mrs. Lin think things over. If she came around, and Mr. Zhao showed some willingness, the matter would likely be settled.

Tianniu had been close to suffocation staying at home these days. Madam Liu, in an attempt to curb her wild spirit, had specially hired a teaching nanny to instruct her in activities like music, chess, calligraphy, and painting. Tianniu liked reading well enough, but these accomplishments befitting a proper lady truly tested her patience to the limit.

She had always been a clever child from the countryside, her gift for learning was innate, yet that natural intelligence had not taught her these unfamiliar skills. If one were to be a lady of a respectable household, such training must start from a young age. How could a country girl like her endure such things? It was a genuine headache!

And, crucially, that teaching nanny was unreasonably strict, forbidding this and that. Free-spirited Tianniu could hardly bear such restraint. Moreover, today was a big day. Uncle Cai, who traded in fur goods, had long promised to take her along on his next hunting trip. It was only after much persistent begging from Tianniu that he agreed, and he even sent word yesterday that he was going into the mountains today and would meet her on the way.

Missing such a rare opportunity would be such a shame.

Tianniu bit her lip, deciding she must go out today. Her eyes quickly darted around as she came up with an idea. Suddenly, she clutched her stomach and cried out, “Oh, my stomach! It hurts terribly.”

The teaching nanny was genuinely startled. While disciplining someone else’s child was one thing, causing them to fall ill was quite another. If that were to happen, the child’s family would certainly hold her accountable. She quickly said, “I’ll send for the doctor right away!”

The key was that Tianniu’s act was convincing, and she put on a display of extreme agony. Naturally, the teaching nanny was taken in by it.

With a silent chuckle to herself, Tianniu said, “That won’t do, I need to visit the privy—it’s about to come out!”

With that, she clutched her stomach and rushed out.

The teaching nanny frowned repeatedly. Such a lack of decorum in this girl, what does she mean ‘it’s about to come out’? How could such words pass her lips?!

But there was no time to worry about propriety now. Letting Tianniu use the privy was necessary since Madam Liu had cautioned her before about this girl’s clever schemes. They couldn’t let her go alone, so the teaching nanny went to stand guard outside the privy,

“Miss, are you feeling any better? Shall I send for the doctor?”

Tianniu shouted, “No need, I definitely have diarrhea. It’ll pass once I relieve myself.”

The nanny said irritably, “Miss, how many times have I told you not to use such vulgar words? How unrefined! If you talk like that outside, people will definitely say you are an uneducated and coarse girl, one that no man would desire…”

The nanny kept rambling on outside, going on and on, until about half an incense stick’s time had passed. Then she noticed it was strangely quiet inside. A sense of dread filled her as she called out, “Miss, at least answer me!”

There was no response.

“Miss?”

The old nanny’s heart skipped a beat, and she hurriedly pushed open the door to look inside, only to stand there in dumbfounded silence. Where could Tian Niu be? One of the tall windows, as tall as two people, had been pried open – she must have escaped through there. But how did she climb up to such a high window?!

How did she climb up? For Tian Niu, who had been scrambling up hills and trees in the countryside since she was little, this was a piece of cake?!

As soon as Tian Niu ran out of the thatched hut, she quickly crouched down to avoid all the people searching for her. The nanny had realized that Tian Niu had run away, of course she would muster a bunch of people to look for her. But how could Tian Niu let them succeed? She ran faster than anything else; the main gate was no longer an option, it must be guarded.

There was no choice but to climb over the wall, something which was not new to her. Skillfully, Tian Niu pulled out a ladder that she had hidden in the bushes, prepared for just such an emergency.

She ascended to the top of the wall in no time, planning to send the ladder down to the other side for an easy descent. But as she glanced over, she saw the old nanny charging towards her, and in a panic, Tian Niu bit her lip and just jumped down.

Ouch, that actually didn’t hurt.

“Get up, quick!” an irritable voice shouted. Instinctively, Tian Niu turned her head and saw a handsome face blackened as if stained with ink.

Tian Niu’s heart skipped a beat, almost stunned for a moment, then she scrambled up clumsily from on top of him, “Thank you, hero, for your life-saving rescue.”

Zhao Jiangshui twitched the corner of his mouth. Life-saving rescue? He hadn’t saved squat! He was just walking along when she fell on him and turned him into an unlucky cushion, that’s all!

“What kind of girl are you, so ill-mannered! Even jumping from a wall, you should look before leaping. To be so careless and cause injury······”

Zhao Jiangshui had not yet finished speaking when Tian Niu turned her head and saw the teaching nanny coming out of the gate chasing her. Tian Niu was scared half to death, it had not been easy to get out, and if she were caught and taken back, she’d certainly be beaten.

Even though she would still get beaten after this outing, at least she had had her fun! Otherwise, it would be too unlucky!

Tian Niu quickly grabbed Zhao Jiangshui and started running, “Not good, someone is trying to catch me, let’s run fast!”

Zhao Jiangshui was stunned for a moment, still not quite processing what was happening when he was already being dragged into a sprint by Tian Niu. Poor him, his arm had been dislocated by Tian Niu’s fall, and while sweating from the pain, he had to run along with this girl, though······ why was he running anyway?!

The old nanny was getting on in years, and couldn’t keep up with Tian Niu, who lost her within a few moments.

After all, Zhao Jiangshui was a scholar, and on top of that his arm was injured. Being dragged by Tian Niu for two streets, he finally couldn’t run anymore. He shook off Tian Niu’s hand with force and said indignantly, “If you want to run, then run; what does it have to do with me!? Why are you pulling me along?!”

Tian Niu was taken aback, “Ah, right, I forgot.”

Zhao Jiangshui, frustrated, flung himself backward and glared fiercely at Tian Niu. Then, the intense pain in his arm made him break out into a cold sweat again. Holding his arm, he thought, how could he have forgotten to check the almanac before leaving the house today!
