Chapter 590: Chapter 591 Which Man Can Bear It_1 Chapter 590: Chapter 591 Which Man Can Bear It_1 “Rest assured, my mother simply doesn’t have that inclination, but Mr. Zhao is different. If he wasn’t interested, why would he stay in Qinghua City? Do you really think he’s here with nothing better to do? He doesn’t have any connections in Qinghua City, and even though Jinyang Town is a smaller place, he’s at least familiar with it. There’s no way he would stay in this foreign land without a reason. Look at me now, I can still give him a bit of encouragement.”

“How do you encourage him?” Qingya asked, puzzled.

“He had his reservations before. My mother has no other intentions towards him, and I haven’t shown a clear attitude either. If he overthinks it, he might just settle for being friends and not take any further steps. Then, my mother would still remain unmarried. By saying what I did, I’m indicating my support and also telling him I would help him. What would he have to fear then?” Muniang said.

Qingya still seemed somewhat uneasy and said, “Lady, can we really rely on Mr. Zhao? I hope he’s not like Mrs. Chui, looking to take advantage of the situation to seize your property. What would we do then?”

Muniang laughed, “He’s different. I trust him. Moreover, I’m already married now. Our house is now under the Yu family name. If my mother marries him, my property still belongs to my husband no matter what. It has nothing to do with him, so there’s no need to worry about that.”

Qingya nodded and said, “That’s true. We had those issues with Mrs. Chui before because the master wasn’t around. You and the old lady were vulnerable as widows and orphans. Now that you have the master to rely on, there’s nothing to fear.”

Even Muniang, strong as she was, had to admit this truth. In this era, without a man, one was indeed prone to being bullied and looked down upon. This only strengthened Muniang’s resolve to find a companion for Mrs. Lin.

In just a couple of days, Muniang managed to find Mr. Zhao a house and shop. Mr. Zhao had not expected things to be settled so quickly, and the places she found were of high value for the price. He hadn’t spent more than he anticipated, and the locations were quite good. It had to be said, Muniang’s ability to get things done was indeed impressive.

Mr. Zhao profusely thanked Muniang, who smiled and said, “If you really want to thank me, Mr. Zhao, why not invite us over for a meal when you throw a housewarming party? We’re all so familiar with each other now, and there’ll be no need for any formalities.”

As she spoke, Muniang even gave Mr. Zhao a playful wink.

Getting the hint, Mr. Zhao responded, “Of course, but I need to fix up the place a bit first; it’s not suitable right now. I’ll come over and invite you personally in a few days.”

“Then it’s a deal,” Muniang said with a smile.

Mr. Zhao cursed under his breath, calling her a clever little devil. She always knew how to take advantage of every opportunity. But with Qiao Muniang’s staunch support, his chances with Mrs. Lin were actually looking good.

Originally, it was just a longing from over a decade ago. After Mrs. Lin got married, he had given up. Then he got married himself and thought no more about it, focusing on living a good life with his wife. But coincidentally, upon his return, he ran into Mrs. Lin again, and he couldn’t help thinking that if he still had the good fortune to remarry in this life, Mrs. Lin would be the best choice.

Right after Muniang returned home, she saw Tianniu hopping along, coming to see her, which made her smile. “What brings you here all of a sudden? I hardly get to see you these days; you’re always running wild everywhere.”

With a pout, Tianniu said, “Mu, you’re really wronging me here. I’ve been busy with proper affairs every day.”

Muniang pulled Tianniu into the house, “Could I really wrong you? Look how worried your mother is. You’re too friendly with everyone, men and women alike, and you don’t care to avoid impropriety. Do you still want to get married in the future?”

“Mu, don’t talk about me like that. My mother’s constantly nagging me to death, and you just add fuel to the fire!” Tianniu said petulantly.

Muniang chuckled, “Enough, enough, once you find a man you like in the future, you’ll understand what it means to be demure.”

Tianniu sniffed, “Not me, I don’t want to get married at all, I’d rather do business with Zhong and Cao. That seems much more fun, but it’s a pity the opera troupe from Mei Garden has gone on tour and they didn’t take me with them.”

As she spoke, she cast a resentful glance at Muniang, knowing full well that without Muniang’s command, she would have taken off anyway.

Muniang ruffled her head, “You child, touring all over the world, and you are your mother’s only daughter. If you were allowed to run wild everywhere, how would you manage to get married in the future? I must give your mother a proper explanation.”

If it were her own child, Muniang really wouldn’t mind how wild she was, but Madam Liu was after all from ancient times. It was liberal enough for her to let her daughter learn to do business, let alone accept her daughter roaming all over the place.

“Besides, you’re not getting any younger. You’re almost fourteen this year, right? Soon it will be time to talk about marriage. You’ve got to be more careful in the future. Even if you learn to do business, it won’t be good to end up an old maid. Tianniu, you can’t just think about yourself, you’ve got to think about your mother. She’s genuinely worried about you.”

At this, Tianniu’s expression softened a bit, and she lowered her head with grievance, “But lately my mother is always arranging potential matches to discuss marriage. Do I have to marry those men I don’t like? I want to be like Sister Mu, to meet a man who likes me and whom I also like, but that’s too hard.”

Muniang burst out laughing, “You certainly shouldn’t settle for less. Of course, you should choose someone you like to marry. You are still young. Not having met someone yet doesn’t mean you won’t meet him in the future. When the time comes and you really find someone, you might be eager to get married.”

Tianniu glared, “I certainly won’t.”

But Qingya chuckled, “You can’t deny, Lady, your words do make some sense.”

Tianniu fumed, “You’re all picking on me, I won’t talk to you anymore!”

Muniang, still smiling, pulled Tianniu back, “Alright, let’s stop the teasing. What did you come here for anyway? I don’t believe you came just to visit me.”

Tianniu said, “Isn’t it because my mother is always arranging matches for me to meet, and I don’t like them? But she won’t listen to me. Sister Mu, can you please speak to her on my behalf?”

Muniang replied exasperatedly, “How can I speak for you? Your mother might not even listen to me. Just be obedient, try to meet and understand more men, maybe you’ll find someone you like. It’s got to have a higher success rate than hanging around all over the place every day.”

Tianniu put on a mournful face, “Sister Mu~”

“Alright, I’ll talk to your mother next time, but whether she listens is not my problem,” Muniang conceded, unable to resist her plea.

Tianniu immediately brightened up, “That’s great!” She hugged Muniang’s neck, giving her a smooch, and then bounced off happily.

Muniang shook her head with a smile. This temperament, which one did she inherit from, Madam Liu or Qiao Yuanming? But Muniang was even more curious— what sort of man could endure such a wild girl in the future? At that thought, Muniang couldn’t help but laugh to herself.
