Chapter 525: Chapter 526 Waiting for Her to Complain_1 Chapter 525: Chapter 526 Waiting for Her to Complain_1 Muniang’s eyes shifted, and her interest in Rong Suqing grew.
“To be able to receive such favor in the palace and still stand on solid ground shows she’s not incompetent. I had recognized some of her abilities before, yet I hadn’t expected her to be so capable. The Rong Family is just a merchant household after all; if the daughter hadn’t been nurtured from a young age, I doubt she could have reached this level.”
Yu Ze’s hand tightened within his sleeve, his lips pressed together in silence, yet his heart was already churning with shock.
Now that Jian Yue had finally been sent off, Muniang naturally couldn’t continue to stay home. She had almost suffocated from boredom these past days. After having breakfast and appeasing the child early in the morning, she was ready to visit the Embroidery House to check the preparation of some peripheral products. Although Madam Liu was handling it, Muniang couldn’t totally let go of her responsibilities, and besides, those new ideas were hers. Sometimes Madam Liu might misunderstand and create something outrageous.
Muniang felt anxious just thinking about it: “Prepare the carriage, I’m going out soon.”
Qingya complied and immediately went to handle it.
Yet just as Muniang was about to step out the door, she was stopped by Nanny Zhu: “Where does the Princess plan to go?”
Muniang found it amusing. This old servant just wouldn’t concede defeat, now even checking who comes and goes.
“Nanny Zhu, you’re so nosy. Could it be you’re lacking chores? It just so happens I’m planning to plant a full swath of begonias in the vacant lot of the east courtyard. The Prince Heir loves them. Since you’re so idle, help out and be diligent for the Prince Heir. That field of begonias will be your responsibility.”
A muscle in Nanny Zhu’s forehead twitched. She was old, yet the Princess was making her farm! She had never done such laborious work in her life.
“I don’t recall the Prince Heir fond of flowers,” which was clearly something Muniang had suddenly decided to foist upon her.
“Then you can ask him whether he likes them when the time comes,” Muniang winked, feigning innocence.
Nanny Zhu was so angry she could spit blood. The Prince Heir was so indulgent towards her; if she asked him now, could he possibly say he didn’t like it?!
“The Lady once said that being a wife, one should at least know basic propriety; frequent gallivanting is the act of a poor woman. Since you married into a wealthy family, you ought to understand your status. Otherwise, any act unbecoming of your station will only disgrace our family’s name,” Nanny Zhu vehemently stated.
“So, what mother instructed you is that I’m not to step outside?”
Nanny Zhu stiffened: “Not exactly that, but it’s inappropriate to be seen everywhere …”
Muniang raised her eyebrows: “Who says I intend to be seen everywhere? Magistrate Lu’s daughter is getting married soon, and we are very close. I’m going to choose a wedding gown for her. Would that also be considered showing myself around?”
Nanny Zhu was speechless.
Her being speechless naturally didn’t mean Muniang had nothing to say. Now that Nanny Zhu’s account was settled, Muniang had yet to settle hers!
Muniang’s face suddenly turned cold: “What audacity you have, servant. Kneel down immediately!”
Nanny Zhu was startled and froze in place. Qingya kicked right behind her knees, and only then did Nanny Zhu kneel with a “thud.”
“Do you admit your guilt?!”
Nanny Zhu finally came to her senses, annoyance apparent on her face, “This old servant does not know!”
“You don’t know? Qingya, slap her.”
“Yes!” Qingya rolled up her sleeves and delivered a couple of sharp slaps.
Nanny Zhu was almost dazed by the slaps and cried out in anger, “In the Marquis Chen Mansion, no one has ever dared to show me such disrespect, not even a smidgen. Even the concubines of the mansion had to give me three parts of courtesy upon seeing me. How dare the Princess behave like this to me today······”
Muniang gave a cold sneer, “You really have grown bolder. After all, I am the Prince Heir’s Princess, and the Princess of Prince An! An official wife being compared to those low conspirators like concubines, according to what Nanny Zhu suggests, should I, the Princess, have to look at the face of a mere servant?!”Suddenly, Nanny Zhu’s eyes widened, not understanding how her attempt to assert her identity had resulted in such a severe accusation from Muniang.
“Summon someone! Drag her down, lock her in the firewood room and wait for the Prince Heir to deal with her on his return!” Muniang ordered.
Nanny Zhu shouted furiously, “Who dares!?”
With a cold glance from Muniang, the group of young servants swiftly tied up Nanny Zhu and dragged her away. Nanny Zhu had clearly misjudged her influence in this place. She failed to recognize that this was Muniang’s territory, where all the servants regarded her as their sole master. No matter how much face Nanny Zhu had in the Marquis Chen Mansion, here she was nothing; if she wanted face, Muniang had to give it to her!
Qingya, supporting Muniang, helped her onto the carriage and then said, “My Lady need not waste anger on that old thing. She merely tried to flaunt her power over you because she was sent by the Marquise.”
But Muniang merely curved her lips, “Her commotion today turned out to be a good thing.”
Qingya looked puzzled, “Why is that? That old servant will surely complain to the Marquise, and I hope it doesn’t bring trouble to you, my Lady.”
“I’m waiting for her to complain. You have been keeping an eye on her movements these past few days, reporting them to me promptly. I cannot tolerate any of these people,” Muniang said and then lightly sipped her tea, slowly exhaling a breath of relief.
After all, the Marquise was her mother-in-law, and she would naturally show some restraint, but with others, she would not be so lenient. The five sent here were all ill-intentioned, and she knew it well. If she did not find a way to get rid of them or suppress them, she’d certainly end up being the one suppressed.
Although Muniang was disheartened by the Marquise’s tactics, she also understood the importance placed on Yu Ze. She wouldn’t make Yu Ze uncomfortable, and naturally, she wouldn’t rashly turn against the Marquise. But as for her minions, she had no intentions of showing mercy; otherwise, they might really think she was a soft persimmon, easy to squeeze.
Upon arriving at Yuyang Embroidery House, Madam Liu was surprised to see Muniang and hastened to welcome her into the inner room.
“What brings you here? I haven’t seen you in a good while. I heard that your noble mother-in-law from the capital came. You really were ‘not stepping outside your front door, not moving beyond your second.’ I was thinking of paying you a visit, but I was also afraid of causing you trouble, so I dared not go.”
Muniang knew full well that Madam Liu was a sensible person. During the time Jian Yue was around, she had indeed played the part of the aggrieved lady of the house.
“Better not mention it—I was nearly bored to death these days. No matter, let’s not talk about it; the thought alone is vexing.”
“Fortunately, everyone has gone now. What’s there to be vexed about?” Madam Liu said with a smile.
Muniang just smiled and did not say much. After all, Madam Liu could not be of help with those matters, so she would silently handle them herself.
“Actually, there’s something I need to tell you. Our Embroidery House has just landed a big business deal!” Madam Liu’s tone was barely able to contain her excitement.
