Chapter 519 - 519 520 When the Gun is Employed_1
Chapter 519: Chapter 520: When the Gun is Employed_1 Chapter 519: Chapter 520: When the Gun is Employed_1 As these words were spoken, shock and speculation mingled in the eyes of everyone backstage. Wasn’t Qiao Muniang a legitimate and proper Lady? How had she become a bitch? And what was the relationship between Miss Yao of the Yao family and their Lady?
Muniang’s eyes grew cold as she strode out. She didn’t recognize any Miss Yao from the Yao family. If that woman dared to come to her door causing trouble, she would not let her off easily!
“Where’s Qiao Muniang, bring out that bitch! Shameless creature, seducing men—I must deal with you properly today!”
A woman stood in the hall, her voice harsh as she commanded, and her entourage set about smashing things and striking guests, causing a scene of utter chaos.
Muniang’s eyes blazed with anger as she shouted, “How dare you! Do you not realize whose ground you’re on, that you behave so recklessly? Did you really think I’d be easy to deal with? If anyone dares to make another move, go directly to the Magistrate and call the government officers. I want to see how many of you really have the guts!”
With ample confidence and rage, Muniang’s words were fiercely delivered, causing everyone in the hall to pause in their actions.
The subordinates of the young lady hesitantly looked towards their master, only to hear Miss Yao scoff, “Oh, calling the Magistrate? That would be great. After all, the dirty deeds you’ve done deserve to be punished by drowning in a pig cage. It’s perfect to have the Governor rule on this and take this whore away to face justice!”
Qingya was hopping mad, “What nonsense are you spouting? Our Lady is a legitimate wife, how dare you slander her here?!”
“Slander? The matter of you enticing Mr. Rong Liming of the Rong Family—do you really think you can keep it hidden? On the Governor’s birthday, don’t think I was blind to the affectionate glances you exchanged. And afterward, sneaking one after another into that courtyard, staying there for so long. Mr. Rong Liming had people guard the courtyard too, you both know exactly what indecent acts you’ve been up to!”
A throbbing pain developed in Muniang’s temples, and a nearby servant whispered to her, “This Miss Yao is Mr. Rong’s fiancée; the marriage has been arranged between the two families.”
Muniang snorted, her voice cool and thin, “Miss Yao, your wild accusations tarnish my reputation without shame. If you truly want to make a fuss, provide evidence. Your behavior today does not befit the reputation of a lady of good breeding.”
Yao Xinran was furious, “Now you’re just being stubborn? Dare you swear to heaven…”
“If I, Qiao Muniang, have had the slightest affair with that good-for-nothing Young Master of the Rong Family, may heaven strike me with lightning and I not die a good death; even in hell, I deserve to be tormented by fierce ghosts!”
Muniang uttered each word with an icy incisiveness.
The onlookers all sucked in a breath of cold air. Even Yao Xinran’s eyes widened, scarcely believing that this woman would so casually make such a vicious oath.
But then, Muniang continued, “I have made my oath; now it’s Miss Yao’s turn. Please, Miss Yao, make the same curse, to be sure of the affair I supposedly have with Mr. Rong Liming. Otherwise, may you be struck down by the heavens just like me. Let’s both make this curse and then wait to see who will be struck down by divine retribution first.”
Yao Xinran bit her lip, unable to utter the words. After all, she hadn’t witnessed it herself; it was her maid Cui Lian who had told her. If it turned out nothing had happened and she’d been speaking nonsense, wouldn’t she be inviting misery upon herself for nothing?
Her temper was always fiery, and she couldn’t stand to see her own possessions tainted by others, so it was only natural that she’d rush over without a care, ready to kick someone while they were down. But in the end, she was so choked up that she couldn’t speak.
Muniang snorted coldly, “Qingya, go directly to summon the government officer. Have this madwoman tied up and taken away. Accuse her of rampaging through my territory indiscriminately, and of slandering my good name. I shan’t just have the Yao family apologize, but also pay compensation!”
Qingya had already sent a servant to urgently summon the government officer, who by now was likely already on the way.
Yao Xinran gritted her teeth and said, “Qiao Muniang, you bitch, what high ground are you pretending to hold? Speaking of a good name now? It’s clearly you who seduced Mr. Rong Liming!”
“Miss Yao, what a joke. You provide no evidence, you decline to swear an oath, and yet you keep calling me a bitch. I, Qiao Muniang, am not someone to be trifled with!”
Anxious and at a loss, Yao Xinran didn’t know what to do next. The key issue was she didn’t really know the truth of the matter. It was only that her maid had spoken so convincingly, even claiming to have personally witnessed those two entering a courtyard and not leaving for half a day, including Mr. Rong’s servant bragging about his young master being pleased with a saucy wench.
How could she swallow this insult? She immediately rushed over, but now she was neither able to advance nor retreat, suddenly feeling trapped.
Muniang saw Yao Xinran’s state and knew she was just a pawn being used by someone else, someone who wished to take this opportunity for revenge against her.
The government officer arrived shortly thereafter. Muniang instructed them to take the woman away, but just at that moment, the Yao family’s people also arrived. They managed to save Yao Xinran from being sent to the County Government Office and agreed to a compensation of one thousand silvers to Muniang.
The government officer was originally looking to Muniang for guidance. Muniang did not want to be overbearing – after all, it was better to be tactful in Qinghua City. The Yao family was a major household, and offending too many people was not beneficial, so she nodded and agreed.
Watching the Yao family leave, Muniang began to consider why Yao Xinran would know such things. Rong Liming had been unfaithful so many times – couldn’t he even manage the secrecy properly? She didn’t believe it; it must have been deliberate on Rong Liming’s part.
Muniang sneered inwardly, thinking it was just like the saying – refusing to walk through heaven’s gate but breaking into hell. Rong Liming, afraid that she would retaliate directly if he acted himself and let the truth slip, came up with this ploy. He used Yao Xinran’s hand to ruin her reputation; such shamelessness.
Initially, Muniang had only suspected, but the very next morning, news broke that the Rong Family was calling off the marriage because Miss. Yao, the third young lady of the Yao family, had caused trouble and cast baseless aspersions, not only damaging her image as a noble young lady but also tarnishing the Rong Family’s reputation.
“That Yao Xinran got what she deserved – having her engagement called off. Best if she grows old never being able to marry, with her foul mouth!” Qingya said indignantly.
Muniang, however, commented, “Mr. Rong Liming played a good game. Using Yao Xinran as a pawn. If it worked, my reputation would be utterly destroyed, and I would likely be drowned in people’s spit. If not, he would have found his excuse to call off the marriage.”
Qingya, quick-witted as she was, understood immediately upon hearing Muniang’s words, “So it was the Rong Family’s plotting!”
Muniang snorted coldly, “Who else but Rong Liming? He probably wanted to call off the marriage for quite some time. After all, the Rong Family wasn’t so prominent before, and the Yao family was considered a good match. But now, with the rise of the Rong Family, how could they still regard a girl from the modest Qinghua City? Right now, he’s probably delighted, eagerly waiting for his sister in the palace to arrange a more advantageous match for him.”
