Chapter 415: Chapter 416 The Delicate Miss Who Infiltrates_1 Chapter 415: Chapter 416 The Delicate Miss Who Infiltrates_1 “Really?” Chen Yuhua was somewhat excited upon hearing this.
Muniang curved her lips into a smile, “We’ll see how many people are willing to come tomorrow.” A good work needs to be passed on by word of mouth, Chen Yuhua’s performance was so stunning, it would naturally attract a crowd.
“Oh, what’s happening here, why is it so deserted? Surely the play didn’t start with no audience today, did it?”
Muniang turned her head and saw a man in his twenties, fanning himself as he swaggered in, his face unfriendly and his eyes slightly scornful.
Muniang’s intuition told her that he must be here to cause trouble.
The young servant stepped forward, “Guest, we have just finished a show. If you want to watch, please wait until noon, we are not performing now.”
Huang Bin spat out, “Scram!”
The young servant jumped in fright and stood frozen, Chen Yuhua looked nervously at Muniang, only to see Muniang coldly saying, “Someone! There’s a troublemaker here, throw him out directly.”
Huang Bin was dumbfounded, he had merely cursed a servant, and she actually ordered someone to throw him out; he immediately became enraged, “Do you know who I am? How dare you hit me?”
Muniang said with amusement, “It seems every troublemaker likes to say this line, but I don’t care who you are, anyone who dares to be wild on my turf won’t get any leniency from me.”
Fuming with anger, Huang Bin still snorted coldly, his tone deliberately carrying a trace of triumph, “As if I’d want to come here? Our New Moon House is fully booked today! What’s the matter? Got a pit in your stomach because the first day of your play has no audience? It’s your own bad luck to compete against me. Let me tell you, as long as New Moon House stands in Chatu Town, Mei Garden can forget about turning over a new leaf!”
Muniang raised an eyebrow, who was it but someone from New Moon House, coming over here to provoke her? Truly laughable!
“Is this the famous Huang Bin of New Moon House? Truly, I’ve heard so much about you,” laughed Muniang, who had already been wondering what kind of fool could do such a thing, so she had specially instructed people to investigate.
Huang Bin smugly lifted his head, “Now you know how formidable I am? We both opened plays at the same time, but the audience prefers to come to my New Moon House, which means, as long as New Moon House is suppressing you, Mei Garden is nothing! Don’t think you’re something special just because you came up with a new style of play. After all, in business, women just don’t have the vision. If you beg me now, maybe I still might······”
Before Huang Bin could finish, Muniang could no longer endure it and cut him off, “Rest assured, boss Huang, even if Mei Garden were to close down for good, we would never beg you. Better go back to where you came from, otherwise I’ll have someone throw you out, and don’t blame me.”
It was the first time Huang Bin had been so bluntly rebuffed, and it irritated him on the spot, “What do you mean by that? Looking down on me, aren’t you? You really think my New Moon House can’t crush you? Just you wait and see, I’d like to know how long you can keep up this act!”
Muniang was speechless, so he thought she was just pretending to be calm? How could he even call himself a businessman with such shortsightedness?
“If Boss Huang has the time to waste here, you might as well worry about yourself. What’s the use of a grand opening? It’s the ability to retain the audience that matters. Don’t boast till it’s over. Lastly, a word of advice, start from tomorrow, change your performance times so they don’t clash with Mei Garden’s, otherwise if you end up too badly beaten, don’t say I didn’t warn you,” Muniang said coolly.
“Hah! That’s quite the bold claim, I…”
“Someone! Throw this man out!”
A group of brawny men immediately rushed out and began to drag Huang Bin away. Fuming and exasperated, he shrugged them off: “Don’t touch me, I can leave on my own! You really think I care to stay?!”
Having said that, he viciously glared at Muniang: “We’ll just wait and see!” Then, with a huff, he stormed out, flinging his sleeve behind him.
Muniang replied with a disdainful glance: “Biting off more than you can chew!”
Muniang had originally thought that today’s performance would directly affect the number of spectators for tomorrow’s play, sure that it would attract more people, but to her surprise, the matinee immediately sold out, which was a delightful shock.
It turned out that the most important aspect was Little Dragon Girl’s entrance, which was simply too stunning. Everyone who had seen the play couldn’t stop singing her praises, comparing her to a fairy descending to earth like Chen Yuhua had said.
“You don’t know, she flew right over my head, surrounded by flowing silk, just like a fairy. Little Dragon Girl is truly too beautiful!” remarked an audience member who had seen the play.
“Really? How does she compare to Ren Yingying from ‘The Proud Smiling Wanderer’?”
“Can you even compare them? One is a mortal, the other a fairy! Today, just from one glance, my heart felt like it was floating. I’ve never seen such a dust-free, brilliant woman!”
And so, with this kind of buzz spreading around, in just a short one or two hours, the entire Chatu Town heard about the fairy in Mei Garden’s new play, and everyone, with a curious heart, attracted a great crowd of spectators by noon.
In contrast, New Moon House was much quieter. Let’s not even talk about how uninteresting the play was, just look at Guo Yuehua. A proper heroine, yet she insisted on playing some delicate, gentle lady, and her act was far from convincing. Where was there any sign of grace? She was stiff throughout the whole performance, and it was strange if the audience could stand watching it.
Huang Bin had just returned from Mei Garden “strutting his stuff,” when he heard this terrible news and was so angry he almost flipped the table: “You good-for-nothing loafers! How could it be the second show and already losing the audience? What are you all doing? Now you’re telling me everyone has gone to Mei Garden?!”
The manager replied, trembling: “The main issue is the stark difference in the first performance’s reviews between our two houses. The patrons here didn’t like our play, and it seems they are more interested in Mei Garden’s Little Dragon Girl…”
“Nonsense! Who is that unknown Little Dragon Girl? What kind of reputation does Guo Yuehua have? They’d ignore Guo Yuehua to watch that woman?” Huang Bin yelled.
The manager didn’t dare to speak further; what could he say? They had the power to make an unknown girl suddenly rise to fame, and everyone around called it miraculous, almost like a fairy descending from heaven. Not to mention others, even he wanted to go see for himself.
Guo Yuehua, seeing the audience numbers had halved suddenly from the morning, was filled with rage. Why did Chen Yuhua get all the fame? It bothered her incredibly, so much so that a sinister light began to emerge in her eyes, scaring the patrons stiff. Where was this a delicate lady’s demeanor? She was more like a savage village wife!
And as Guo Yuehua continued to exchange banter with the scholar on stage with that stiff acting, all the patrons felt as if their entire being was suffering.
