Chapter 311: Chapter 312 Pretending to be a Gentleman_1 Chapter 311: Chapter 312 Pretending to be a Gentleman_1 Wu Haoli’s hand in his sleeve tightened, too. He was no fool; seeing the situation before him, he understood that he had been duped. It was his own fault—for worrying into confusion. As soon as he heard that Muniang was in trouble, he didn’t think much and hurried over in a frenzy, only to fall into someone else’s trap!

He Suxue giggled, “So what if it is taken? Isn’t it just nice to have a man here to detoxify you? I didn’t really want to kill you.”

Muniang’s eyes blazed with anger—indeed, it wasn’t about killing her, but it was even more ruthless than that!

“It seems this drug works well; you’re already showing some reaction. Enjoy it while you can. When Yu comes later and catches you in bed, I’d like to see what you have to say,” He Suxue laughed particularly viciously. She wanted to witness this scene. She wanted to marry into Marquis Chen Mansion and live a carefree life? Well, she simply couldn’t allow her that satisfaction!

The thing she had guarded for nineteen years—why should she just hand it over so easily?

She was determined to make Qiao Muniang fall into disgrace, be spurned by Yu Ze, and even more so by everyone under the heavens!

“Such a vicious heart, and yet you carry the title of the Capital City’s top talented woman. Your mind is filled with such vile thoughts!” Wu Haoli, despite knowing that Muniang wasn’t poisoned, felt disgusted thinking about the vile acts He Suxue had committed.

He Suxue scoffed, “So what if it is? Don’t put on a hypocritical act of integrity. You should thank me for helping you out; you must be overjoyed inside.”

Muniang was taken aback. Wu Haoli roared, “Say that again?!”

He Suxue shrank her neck, not daring to provoke him too much, and said, “Could you really bear to watch her burn to death? There’s no other man here to help her.” After that, she laughed triumphantly and turned to leave.

Seeing them close the door once more, Muniang finally breathed a sigh of relief. She knew He Suxue must have laid many traps here, and even if she was clear-headed, it was impossible for her and Wu Haoli to escape Lunming Mountain together. The only way was to use this ploy to blind He Suxue, making her think she had been poisoned, and naturally, she would go fetch Yu Ze.

If He Suxue had discovered earlier that she wasn’t poisoned, she would probably have been forced to swallow the antidote by now.

Though Wu Haoli knew it was all an act, this woman seemed completely unaware of how lethal her own charm was. Pulling at his clothes, sitting in his lap, sending him coquettish glances as smooth as silk—he was really testing his conscience.

“Shouldn’t you get up now?” Wu Haoli’s voice was hoarse to an extreme.

Muniang then realized and hurriedly got up, “I’m sorry, I forgot to say something in the urgency of the moment.”

Wu Haoli adjusted his clothes and coughed uncomfortably, “Right, it’s fine, no harm done.”

“I really didn’t expect you would come to rescue me, but I’m so thankful,” Muniang wasn’t stupid. After He Suxue made things so clear, she realized that Wu Haoli had these feelings for her.

Seeing her react that way, Wu Haoli knew that she had understood and didn’t hide his thoughts anymore, “In the end, it was my concern that drove me to confusion, falling into someone else’s scheme. They deliberately wanted Yu Ze to witness your embarrassment to ruin you—it was my negligence.”

Muniang didn’t know what to say, but Wu Haoli continued, “Is it because you didn’t expect me to be in the Capital City, or you didn’t think of me at all?”

“Huh?” Muniang was somewhat stunned; it seemed that she had never really considered this question, but if she truly thought about it, maybe the latter mattered a bit more to her.

Wu Haoli laughed at himself, “I should have understood earlier that someone as heartless as you would keep me in your heart, just like when you decided to follow Yu Ze to the Capital City. You said farewell to everyone, but you never said goodbye to me.”

Muniang awkwardly lowered her head, as she had always regarded Wu Haoli as a business partner and had not considered a deeper relationship. Before departing, she had bid farewell to the families she knew well but had forgotten about him.

“I have never seriously liked something since I was young; this is the first time, but it seems quite unsuccessful,” Wu Haoli said, his voice tinged with desolation, “But Muniang, if I had met you first, Yu Ze would be in the same position as I am now, with no chance to intervene. I just had the bad luck.”

Muniang, however, chuckled bitterly in her heart. There was no such thing as luck; if he had met her first, he would have met the former Qiao Muniang, and he might not have liked her. Sometimes, when she thought back to her first meeting with Yu Ze, she felt as though fate brought her to this different world just to meet this man.

“Even though I understand that your heart has no room for anyone else, I still came to the Capital City. I had no intention of showing my face, but today I was forced to. However, is this really the life you like? Bearing those odd looks from people like He Suxue and Liu Yueman, being constantly reminded of your lowly birth, being with a man like Yu Ze, you can never have peace.”

Muniang pursed her lips before saying, “Even if it’s not peaceful, he will do everything to protect my peace. When I followed him here without hesitation, I had already anticipated this situation. Yet, I still came, just like you, knowing it’s impossible, but still, you came, didn’t you? When you’re in love with someone, it’s easy to act recklessly.”

Wu Haoli curved his lips into a bitter smile, realizing he had no place in her heart because she had given it all to that man.

“Although Erlang and I are not officially married yet, in my heart, I already consider him my husband. In this lifetime, unless he pushes me away, I will not change,” Muniang said.

Muniang knew these words were cruel, but she wanted to make it clear. She was touched by Wu Haoli’s affections, but her heart had no room for any other man; perhaps she was still too uncompassionate.

Suddenly, there was movement at the door again, this time the footsteps were much more hurried, but not heavy—light steps that only a martially trained person could possess.

Muniang guessed it was probably Yu Ze arriving, so she calmly waited.

With a loud “bang,” the door was forcefully opened, and Yu Ze rushed in, “Muniang, are you alright?”

Muniang shook her head and then looked towards the door to see He Suxue following in.

He Suxue’s eyes widened, clearly unable to believe the situation. The two, who were supposed to be caught in a compromising act, were just sitting there neatly dressed?!

“I heard you were trapped on Lunming Mountain, so I hurried over. Thank goodness you’re alright,” Yu Ze said with a sigh of relief.

Muniang glanced at He Suxue and sneered, “Oh, to think Miss He herself would go to the trouble of finding me. I’m truly flattered.”

Her tone was undoubtedly full of mockery.

Fury grew within Muniang. She had endured He Suxue’s provocations over and over, only to have her behavior get worse. To keep such a viperous woman around was clearly just asking for trouble. Did she really think she couldn’t touch her?!
