Chapter 777: Chapter 777 Awareness of Provocation (2)_1

Chu Heng: "..."

Was this an attempt to shut him up with food? Chu Heng, the unfortunate first to be fed by his cousin, was far from happy.

Although Mrs. Du’s arrival had somewhat dampened the mood of the father and daughter of Mo Family, the lively and warm atmosphere in the dining room quickly dispelled the displeasure, and the meal ended with everyone feeling quite content.

By now, the snow outside had grown heavy, so deep that it reached the top of one’s foot with every step. The Liu family and Han family were not in any rush to leave, as the Mo Family’s house was spacious enough to comfortably accommodate both families, something that had happened before.

Shen Ji, however, wanted to take advantage of the carriage still being able to travel and planned to return to the city.

With only three months left until next year’s spring examinations, Shen Ji had been diligently studying in his rented room since the autumn examinations. He would not have come out at all had the Mo Family not invited him.

Who doesn’t appreciate a hardworking person? Mo Qingze was already fond of Shen Ji as a son-in-law candidate. Seeing Shen Ji wanted to leave, he opened his mouth to persuade him, "Yun Jin, it is good to be diligent, but you must not neglect rest, for the proper way is to balance work and leisure! Stay here today, and leave when the snow clears tomorrow—it won’t be too late."

"I truly appreciate Brother Ziyu’s kindness," replied Yun Jin, touched, yet hesitant. However, he found it rather improper to outright refuse when the host was sincerely insisting.

As he struggled with the decision, somehow his gaze met that of the expectant young lady in the crowd, and his mind went blank for a moment. By the time he regained his senses, he had unconsciously nodded his agreement to stay.

"Haha, excellent! Excellent!" Mo Qingze was thrilled that Shen Ji agreed to stay, deciding to probe him that very evening, eager to finalize the marriage as soon as possible.

Mr. Liu from the Liu family and Han Zhiyun, because of their connection to Mo Qingze, had met Shen Ji and were quite impressed by this hardworking, forward-thinking junior. They too were happy he was staying and laughed about the prospect of a long night’s discussion by candlelight.

Xiao Ruiyuan was the only one not pleased. He darkened with a scowl at Shen Ji, convinced that Shen Ji had some ulterior motive for his feigned reluctance and decision to stay. Such hypocrisy was utterly despicable to him!

Suddenly feeling a chill, Shen Ji thought the dining room door was left open to the cold winds and couldn’t help but move a couple of steps to the side, conveniently out of the line of Xiao Ruiyuan’s icy stare.

Chu Heng watched his cousin looking like someone had spilled vinegar all over him, quite perplexed by the childish behavior. Following his gaze to the gentle and noble Shen Ji, he couldn’t help but curl his lips, contemptuous of his cousin’s immature antics.

Mo Yan, busy in the kitchen preparing food for the hungry animals, missed this scene altogether. Otherwise, she would have certainly teased that particular vinegar jar.

Having successfully persuaded Shen Ji to stay, Mo Qingze then turned to Xiao Ruiyuan and Chu Heng. Before he could speak, Chu Heng volunteered, "I’ve heard that your village has produced many vegetables this winter. I’d like to see for myself, but the weather is not cooperating. I plan to stay another day until the snow clears before visiting. I hope Mr. Mo can accommodate this?"

Although Mo Qingze had only intended to ask out of politeness, he didn’t expect Chu Heng to take the initiative to stay. Worried about not being able to provide satisfactory hospitality and offending the royal guest, he had no choice but to accept, saying, "Your Highness honors my humble house by staying, it is my privilege. Should there be any oversight in the welcome, I hope for your leniency."

"This place is wonderful, I quite like it," said Chu Heng with a warm smile towards Mo Qingze. He then gave his cousin a covert glance, rolling his eyes inconspicuously. If not for his inconsiderate cousin, would he, the Crown Prince of a Country, stoop to insisting on staying here?

The snow continued all afternoon and only stopped at dusk. The four animals scattered and frolicked in the snow, their paws throwing up clouds of white against the backdrop of their rising spirits. They even started a competition to see who could dig up the snow higher and further.
