Chapter 363: Chapter 363 Refusing to Leave and Asking Someone to Leave (Part 3)_1
Seeing how everyone was enjoying their food with extra relish, Little Flower and Dabai started drooling too. They kept rubbing against Mo Yan’s thigh, yearning for those tasty little snacks she had made, especially the various meat-filled pastries.
At that time, Zhenzhen came back, holding two envelopes of pastries that had already been torn open, looking quite furious. She slammed the pastries on the table and pouted as she complained, "Big sister, when are those people from the Wang Family moving out? They are so annoying! These pastries were supposed to be shared with the little kids. I could let it go if the Wang Family’s bigger kids snatched them, but Aunt Wang, an adult, joined in the looting as well. She even scolded another little brother. She’s shameless!"
Mo Yan frowned slightly and consoled Zhenzhen with a smile, though her opinion of Sister-in-law Wang had worsened in her heart.
It wasn’t just her character that was questionable. These past days had been sunny and while others went up the mountain to chop wood and repair their homes, the Wang Family, on the other hand, did nothing but laze in the corner soaking up the sun, as if fixing their house wasn’t something they needed to bother with. Were they planning to squat at her place indefinitely?
If that was truly the case, it would be utterly revolting! No, she had to give them a reminder to hurry up and repair their home so they could move back. Otherwise, when the time came to ask them to leave, it wouldn’t look good for anyone.
At this very moment, the Wang Family members were basking in the sun at the corner, enjoying the pastries they had snatched from Zhenzhen. Seeing Mo Yan approaching, Sister-in-law Wang, with an ingratiating smile on her face, offered the leftover pastry crumbs to Mo Yan and said with a flushed face, "Yan girl, we don’t have much to offer you at home, but these pastry crumbs are quite nice. Why don’t you give them a try!"
Mo Yan looked at the pastry crumbs the size of a liquor cup on the greasy paper, which seemed tinged with saliva, and at Sister-in-law Wang’s pain-stricken face, suddenly not wanting to speak at all, yet feeling compelled to do so anyway.
"Aunt Wang, don’t be polite. We still have plenty of pastries at home. You keep them and enjoy them yourself!"
Sister-in-law Wang stretched her mouth into a grin, revealing her yellowed, large teeth. She gathered up the greasy paper and dumped all the pastry crumbs into her mouth in one go, continuing to talk non-stop while eating so that the crumbs almost sprayed onto Mo Yan’s face.
"Yan girl, these pastries are really good, much tastier than the white sugar cakes they sell on the streets! Who was that wealthy-looking gentleman who came by this morning? He seemed very rich and brought your family a lot of things, including these pastries, right? Oh my, your family is truly extraordinary. If you’re on the road to prosperity, don’t forget about us neighbors, alright?"
Wang Dali, who had been sprawled in his chair unmoving until now, straightened up and looked at Mo Yan, his face revealing an obsequious yet expectant smile.
Mo Yan tugged at the corner of her mouth and gave a perfunctory response, then seemingly casually asked, "The weather has been nice these days and the snow on the mountain has also melted. Aunt, why hasn’t your family gone up to chop wood and fix the house?"
Sister-in-law Wang’s face shifted, and she observed Mo Yan’s expression covertly. Seeing that Mo Yan seemed to be genuinely making idle conversation, she felt relieved and replied with a return to her smile, "Yan girl, I’ve been meaning to talk to you about this. Now that you’re here, it’s the perfect time to discuss it!"
Mo Yan had a feeling it wouldn’t be anything good, but she still put on an expression of eager attention, "Please speak, Aunt Wang."
Sister-in-law Wang rubbed her hands together, glanced at Wang Dali with a hint of stealth, and after receiving a signal from her husband, her smile turned into a face of woe, "Yan girl, I’m not afraid of being laughed at by you. Living in a thatched cottage is hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Just the other day, a heavy snow collapsed our house and now we’re at the coldest point of the year. With the old and the young at home, what would we do if someone fell ill from the cold?"
As she spoke, she secretly stole glances at Mo Yan. Seeing that she remained silent and didn’t take the bait, she gritted her teeth and finally revealed what she and her husband had been scheming, "That’s why, your uncle and I are planning to build an adobe house when spring arrives and it gets warmer. It’ll be much better than living in a thatched house! What do you think, Yan girl?"
