Chapter 150: Chapter 149: Declaration of War_1
On the southern border of the Qin Dynasty, there was a city built by the sea. The residents living there made their living through fishing.
Early in the morning, countless small boats sailed out of the harbor. Fishermen chatted and sang as they headed to the deep-sea regions to fish. On the shore, thousands of merchant families awaited the returning fishermen, creating a bustling scene.
However, no one knew that a disaster was about to befall this city!
About an hour later, countless warships appeared at the horizon. Shimmering with Spiritual Energy, they moved with surprising speed, smashing the fishing boats in their path.
The boats were destroyed, and the people onboard perished!
"Who dares to cause trouble on the border of the Qin Dynasty?"
From within the city, a General flew out to sea, brandishing his weapon and shouting in a deep, stern voice.
"Qunxian Sect!" Mo Shi said leisurely. From the azure sea, a Water Sword shot out, piercing the city’s Guard General.
"Relay my order: occupy the city!" Mo Shi said in a flat tone.
"As you command!"
From the warships, one hundred thousand Qunxian Sect Disciples in blue robes flew out. They strode through the air, their powerful auras making them seem like Immortals descending.
The commoners looked up at these uninvited guests.
The Qin soldiers guarding the city glared angrily and fired countless arrows.
"Kill!"
Watching the incoming arrows, the Qunxian Sect Disciples remained expressionless. Their Spiritual Energy surged, forming a protective shield that deflected the arrows, which then clattered against the city walls.
The slaughter began.
Facing the powerful Qunxian Sect Disciples, the Qin soldiers were no match. They fell one after another, their eyes wide in death, filled with lingering fear and confusion.
Who could it be? Who dares to attack the Qin Empire?
But no one would ever answer their questions.
The shadow of death enveloped the entire city. Flowing blood stained the walls crimson.
After some time, the banner representing the Qin Empire was cut down.
A day later, the city was cleaned, and all battle damage repaired. It looked just as it had before.
The only difference was that the city’s master had changed from the Qin Empire to the Qunxian Sect.
"This battle signifies our formal declaration of war against the Qin Empire! Everyone, the war has begun! You may lead your sect’s Disciples to occupy the surrounding cities!"
"The Sect Master has decreed that in the cities you conquer, you may establish branch sects, spread your martial arts, and recruit new Disciples!"
In the courtyard of the City Lord’s estate, Mo Shi sat in the seat of honor, speaking with high spirits.
Upon hearing this, the eyes of the powerhouses from the various sects lit up. Establishing branch sects, recruiting disciples... this is a good opportunity!
Benefits! Real, tangible benefits! This would be immensely advantageous for their sects’ legacies!
"As you command!"
The powerhouses from the various sects clasped their fists in salute, their eyes revealing a fervent battle intent. Without any need for discussion, they turned and departed, mobilizing their Disciples to prepare for the conquest of the surrounding cities.
That very day, legion after legion departed.
Overwhelming auras swept across the land.
To occupy more cities, the various sects sent their powerhouses as vanguards to destroy city walls and kill the Guard Generals. Then, they ordered their Disciples to attack and eliminate the defending soldiers.
Soon, the flames of war engulfed the southern part of the Qin Empire.
Affected by the turmoil of war, countless refugees fled towards the heartland of the Qin Dynasty. The number of people who starved to death along the way was unknown.
Many more citizens of Qin lived a life worse than death under the rule of the Qunxian Sect.
After occupying a city, most sect powerhouses ordered "no sheathing of blades for six hours." This meant that during this period, their Sect Disciples could do anything they wished.
The test of human nature had arrived.
But! Could human nature withstand such a test?
Burning, killing, looting, and pillaging occurred in every street and alley of the cities. The sounds of wailing echoed throughout the southern region of the Qin Empire, lingering for a long, long time.
「Imperial Capital!」
Bathed in sunlight, this ancient city, steeped in history, radiated vibrant life. The commoners passing in and out of the city gates wore smiles on their faces, filled with a deep sense of pride.
"YAH! YAH! YAH!"
"Urgent report from the border! Everyone, make way!"
An urgent cry shattered the tranquility. People turned their heads to see a nine-person squad galloping across the sky on Dragon Scale Horses, each soldier with a banner affixed to their back.
On the front of the banners, the character ’Qin’ was embroidered, and on the back, a sword and a saber.
This type of banner represented the highest level of military dispatch. None were permitted to obstruct its passage. Whenever such a team appeared, it usually signified a military crisis.
They’re coming from the south. Could something have happened at the southern border?
The commoners hurriedly made way, discussing in hushed tones. The smiles vanished from their faces, replaced by worry.
The Sha Xie Tribe had invaded, and the conflict in the northwest was still unresolved. If war also broke out in the south, it would undoubtedly pose a tremendous challenge for the Qin Empire.
"Your Majesty, forces from the Wan Dao Domain have launched an attack! Led by the Qunxian Sect, they have already conquered over a thousand cities in the south!"
In the imperial court, the soldier delivering the intelligence knelt on one knee as he reported, his face etched with deep hatred. He was from the south; during the invasion, his family, his comrades-in-arms, and his mentors had all been brutally murdered.
He had survived only because he served as a messenger and had not been in the military camp at the time.
He had narrowly escaped death.
"What?"
"The Wan Dao Domain is invading?"
"Damn it all! They’re taking advantage of our predicament! Fellow humans, yet they stab us in the back while we’re engaged with foreign tribes! A pack of shameless curs!"
The court officials were in an uproar. Many quick-tempered ministers cursed aloud furiously.
After their outburst, they calmed down, though their brows remained tightly furrowed.
The Qunxian Sect was no minor power.
They were the hegemon of a King-level Dao Domain, with a Saint King expert presiding over them. They could mobilize all forces within their domain, posing a threat to the Qin Empire far greater than that of the Scorpion Tribe.
This was not to say the Scorpion Tribe was weak.
In the face of the Scorpion Tribe’s invasion, other human factions in the vicinity would surely not stand idly by. For instance, the Radiant Divine Court had intervened on its own accord to resist the Scorpion Tribe.
But the Qunxian Sect was different. As this was a conflict among human factions, no one would step forward to mediate or uphold justice.
"Your Majesty, with the Wan Dao Domain invading, we must dispatch troops to intercept them as soon as possible!" Li Si stepped forward and said gravely.
"Issue a decree: appoint Zhang Gan as the General of Southern Pacification. Mobilize the Great Qin Iron Cavalry and Yan Yun’s Eighteen Riders to resist the Wan Dao Domain’s invasion!" Qin Wudao surveyed the grand hall, pondered for a moment, then commanded with authority.
We are desperately short on talent! To halt the Scorpion Tribe’s invasion, the Qin Dynasty’s elite forces had all been dispatched to the northwestern front. Only the veteran Qin General, Zhang Gan, and a few other less capable commanders remained. Zhang Gan is skilled, but tasking him with resisting the Wan Dao Domain’s invasion is still stretching our resources thin...
"This humble General accepts the command!" Without hesitation, Zhang Gan strode to the center of the hall and knelt on one knee, his expression solemn and resolute.
As a high-ranking General, he was well aware of the formidable power of the Wan Dao Domain. He knew even more clearly that the upcoming war would be incredibly arduous, perhaps even a journey from which he would not return.
Yet, he still stepped forward.
This was his mission, and also the duty of a General.
"General, be careful on your journey!" Qin Wudao rose to his feet, his eyes filled with concern as he looked at this General who had once been a pillar of the Qin Dynasty.
Zhang Gan looked up, meeting Qin Wudao’s gaze. "Your Majesty has worked painstakingly to create this golden age for the Qin Dynasty. This humble General swears to protect it with my life! If the Wan Dao Domain wants war, then even if it costs me this very life, I will hold them back!"
