Senior fellows were worried that she would tattle on them.

Xie Wanying pressed the answer button and first listened to the directives of the elderly predecessor on the other end.

"How is it, did they give you a hard time after I left? Did they make you continue writing a reflection paper?" Teacher Lu took the initiative to ask her to report on the senior fellows.

Yu Xuexian swallowed hard in his throat. The others were also looking at her with tense faces.

"No." Xie Wanying shook her head.

"Really? Are they there watching you, making you lie, not letting you tell the truth?" Teacher Lu seemed to have a pair of eyes that could traverse time and space to witness the scene on this end.

Yu Xuexian covered his mouth with his fist, not daring to cough. Everyone else held their breath as well.

"Teacher Lu, the senior fellows are very busy, how could they have time to watch over me." Xie Wanying said.

Listening to her tone, she seemed quite the actress. Everyone looked at her calm and composed acting with a glimmer in their eyes.

"What are you doing?" Teacher Lu asked her.

"Right now?" Xie Wanying made footstep noises while pacing and said, "I’m about to go see a patient with Doctor Song from our department."

Song Xueling, standing at the door, thought about it and decided to hide to the side first, to avoid startling her and affecting her lines.

Fan Yunyun covered her mouth with her hands, thinking to herself how Senior Sister Xie could have been an Oscar actress with her act.

"What patient?" Teacher Lu continued to ask, a bit curious now.

"Teacher Lu. Actually, I was hoping to consult with you about this case."

"Consult with me?"

"Yes. This case is quite special; she has diseases from two different departments. When we medicated her, we found some conflicts with the medication. It might be hard to explain clearly over the phone. Could I bring her detailed medical records to consult with you in person?"

"You can. You’re welcome anytime," Teacher Lu agreed without hesitation, "If you finish work late, you might as well come to my house for dinner, I’ll cook for you."

"What dessert would Teacher Lu like to have after dinner? I’ll bring it for you," Xie Wanying seized the opportunity.

"Why be so polite with me. You go check on your senior fellow student Li’s situation first, then come tell me tomorrow," Teacher Lu instructed her.

"Yes."

The call ended.

She could act alone, but telling too many people would definitely give her away. Besides, she really didn’t know much more than the senior fellows, just a rough idea of which part of Teacher Lu was in pain and needed further confirmation. If she managed to cover for Teacher Lu now, she might gain Teacher Lu’s trust and work on influencing Teacher Lu’s thoughts.

Xie Wanying put down the phone, waiting for the senior fellows to make a decision.

"Let her go on like this," Gao Zhaocheng said after clearing his thoughts, the first to speak up.

Yu Xuexian wiped the sweat from his brow with his finger, puzzled: why had Teacher Lu suddenly chosen to trust someone he’s only known for two days, rather than relying on them, with whom he had a long-standing relationship.

As things stood, it seemed the others had no alternative, for the time being.

"What case are you and Xiao Song researching?" Tao Zhijie turned around, his voice softened, asking her.

Senior Tao had clearly returned to his usual demeanor, Xie Wanying replied, "Bed 20."

It appeared she had never intended to give up on Little Yangyang’s mother’s case.

Tao Zhijie’s eyes gleamed, his smile returning to the familiar curve with deep warmth directed at her.

Cao Yong looked at his watch, noticing the time was tight, and directly called out to her, "Let’s go, we’ll go see your senior fellow student Li together."
