Chapter 499 - Chapter 499 【499】Asking for help from Senior Cao
Chapter 499: [(499)] Asking for help from Senior Cao Chapter 499: [(499)] Asking for help from Senior Cao “It’s like this, Senior Cao, Senior Brother Huang said I could ask you if I had any problems, but you’re resting, so I still–” Xie Wanying’s voice trailed off as her palms started to sweat.
“Yingying?” Recognizing her voice, a surprised exclamation came from Cao Yong, followed by a cheerful, light chuckle.
Just as Senior Brother Huang had described, Senior Cao chuckled upon receiving her call. Xie Wanying was somewhat taken aback.
“What’s the problem? Go ahead and tell me,” Cao Yong spoke to her gently.
Senior Brother encouraged her to speak. Xie Wanying gathered her courage, seizing the opportunity to keep it short and to the point, “There’s a patient, he’s very irritable, but from what I see he’s a businessman, educated, likes to read the newspaper, should be well-mannered. There’s no reason for him to throw things around after just a few words. Later on, I recalled that his skin seemed somewhat yellow, but he was admitted because of symptoms of upper gastrointestinal bleeding.”
“Mm-hmm.” On the other side of the phone, Cao Yong listened while reverting to his professional medical mindset, “I get what you mean. Are you worried that he might slip into hepatic encephalopathy in the middle of the night?”
Senior Cao was sharp, guessing her line of thought right off the bat.
“If you’re concerned about hepatic encephalopathy, you can order blood tests, an ultrasound, and CT scans,” suggested Cao Yong.
“He’s been hospitalized for two days. I went through his medical record, some of the blood test reports are back; others are still outstanding and may need to wait until tomorrow. Looking at today’s results, the coagulation profile indicates that the prothrombin time is prolonged.”
“You can order some urgent tests for him now, can’t you? He’s refusing to accept them, isn’t he?” Cao Yong quickly picked up on her concern and asked.
Xie Wanying nodded, “Yes. Senior Cao, we tried to enter the ward and communicate with him and his family, but it was no use talking to him. His wife was just as uncooperative, and she locked the door. They won’t allow medical staff to check on him at night. I feel this is quite dangerous.”
“The situation you described is indeed dangerous. If something goes wrong, it’s hard to say whose responsibility it will be.”
Senior Brother was very professional, not the least bit impatient or anxious. Xie Wanying thought about how she should seek non-medical advice from Senior Cao and swallowed nervously, feeling a little uneasy about bringing it up.
It was not a medical issue, like Senior Brother Huang said, falling outside the scope of questions a medical senior should answer for a junior. After all, Huang had nudged her, and the thought of Cao Yong being easy to talk to prompted her call.
Perhaps the sound of her nervous heartbeat reached him, and through the faint connection, Cao Yong chuckled again. Xie Wanying felt inexplicably embarrassed–she hoped that Senior Cao hadn’t figured out her agenda.
“Are you looking for a way to deal with the patient’s family rather than analyzing the patient’s case, aren’t you?” Cao Yong asked his junior sister softly.
Senior Cao was smart, seeing right through her plan. A wave of embarrassment swept over Xie Wanying.
“Isn’t Senior Brother Huang right there with you? He’s the on-duty head of inpatient services tonight. Didn’t he give you any advice?” Cao Yong asked his junior.
Huang Zhilei lifted the inpatient services logbook to cover his face.
As the head of inpatient services, he was responsible for helping resolve issues from the various surgical departments that could not be solved during the night shift. Yet he, with his slow-witted mind, hadn’t figured it out and suggested that his junior sister call Senior Cao for advice.
This unequivocally confirmed his lack of ability.
No wonder Senior Cao called him Little Fool.
When Senior Brother returned tomorrow, he would need to prepare for a scolding: the one so eager to play Matchmaker had failed to do his own job properly.
“For such a problem, Senior Brother Huang said it’s not a medical issue, and he doesn’t know how to resolve it,” Xie Wanying explained.
