Chapter 33: 030. Johan’s Feelings To Ayu.

Little by little, the medium-sized burger slowly runs out.

A common sight in fast food joints that serve a variety of fatty instant foods.

Among the customers, Ayu and Johan sat at a table near the entrance.

"It tastes a little strange," Ayu said, chewing on the burger she had ordered.

"Really? Though it tastes pretty normal for a fast food burger," replied Johan, munching on his burger that had a few extra layers of cheese.

"I think I can make something better than this," Ayu said confidently.

"Have you ever cooked a burger?" Asked Johan.

"I haven’t, but I’m sure I can make better meat than this."

"Meat is meat. I doubt there will be any noticeable changes." Johan immediately took a bite of his burger while continuing to stare at the woman who sitting in front of him.

Both of them had just finished their classes and coincidentally neither of them had any other classes after this.

Although both of them were still wearing neat but simple clothes, for some reason, Johan seemed to be glued to Ayu who was wearing a cream-colored shirt.

"What’s wrong?" asked Ayu who suddenly realized she was being watched.

"Uhm... Nothing," replied Johan who suddenly turned his face away.

"Do you want to go to the library after this? I just got some interesting knowledge about cell mutation."

"I don’t mind," replied Johan, looking into Ayu’s sparkling eyes.

Whenever she discussed something related to biology, her pure interest seemed to radiate a unique aura.

Hope...

Like a moth drawn to a flame, Johan found himself continuing to stare at Ayu.

"By the way, I’m still amazed at the scope of knowledge you have, senior," Ayu said, opening a new conversation.

"Let’s just say that when I was in high school I was a bit interested in chemistry," Johan replied.

"But you majored in something different, senior."

"I had my own reasons. And by the way, can you stop calling me senior? It feels weird when someone who pursuing Master degree calls someone who pursuing Bachelor degree as a senior."

Ayu chuckled. "But why, se-ni-or?"

Johan’s face turned red and he immediately looked away. ’She did it on purpose.’

Ayu still chuckled for a while before finally calming down. "Senior, I have something to ask you. Do you know Professor William Smith?"

"He’s my brother, what’s going on?"

"I knew it!"

"Why?"

"Because you share the same last name and he looks similar to you."

"Ah... I see now, is he a lecturer who teaches in one of the classes you’re taking?"

"Hehe... Yeah."

"Do you need help with your assignment or something?"

"No... It’s not like that... It’s just..." Ayu’s head lowered slightly and the fingertips of both hands touched each other with a slight tremble. "I have something to discuss with Professor William."

"It’s best to forget it. You should already know that he’s a cold and difficult person to talk to," Johan replied, which made Ayu sad.

"Is that so?" asked Ayu with disappointment reflected in her heavy breathing.

When he saw the sad look on her face. Johan immediately felt compassion.

"But if it’s related to learning and class, maybe I can persuade him," said Johan, which immediately got Ayu excited again.

"Really?!" said Ayu with a sparkle of hope in her eyes.

Confidently, Johan straightened his back. "No problem, I can persuade him."

Ayu immediately smiled widely and managed to make Johan blush.

His heart beat faster and Johan’s vision seemed to become very clear and bright with Ayu’s smiling face as the center of his gaze.

At that moment, Johan realized that he liked her.

----------------------------------------

The aroma of spices filled the kitchen to the living room. As the apartment door opened, William was immediately greeted by the unusual aroma of cooking.

The man in the neat shirt stepped into the apartment and headed for the kitchen.

He found Johan frying some chicken pieces that had been seasoned with a flour batter that had been mixed with some herbs and spices.

"You don’t usually use this many spices," William said, looking at Johan who was wearing a plain t-shirt and shorts.

"It’s a recipe from my friend, she’s a very good cook," Johan replied.

"I hope it turns out well," said William as he turned and walked out of the kitchen.

"Will," Johan called William which made his brother stop his steps.

"What?"

"The friend I’m referring to is Ayu, Ayu Wulandari."

"Ayu Wulandari?" William wrinkled his forehead as he tried to remember the name.

"She’s a new student from Indonesia."

William’s eyes widened as he realized who the person in question was. "Oh... That kid. She’s quite smart. So you know her?"

"Do you have time to talk to her after class? There seems to be a topic she wants to discuss with you."

William’s face immediately frowned and he looked at Johan. "Johan, you should already understand that I don’t like teaching. I’m only doing this job because of past mistakes."

Johan walked in front of William and bowed his head. "Please! Just this once! Please help me! Just this once!"

William sighed heavily. "Well, if it’s related to the class, I can spare 30 minutes to teach her."

----------------------------------------------

A week after William agreed to give Ayu extra lessons, Johan no longer saw her often.

Although Johan wanted the best for Ayu, he felt a little lonely when Ayu spent so much time studying with his brother.

’Should I just change majors?’ Johan monologued in his mind while resting his chin on the cold library table.

Usually, he and Ayu would discuss many things while in the library. However, now he was in the library alone.

No Ayu, no enthusiasm, no motivation.

Johan could only sigh, he had not even opened the book he borrowed.

After a few minutes of depression, Johan stood up and walked out of the library.

"Maybe I can meet them in class," said Johan as he walked out and looked at the cloudy afternoon sky.

"But what should I say then? That I can’t study without her?"

"AAAARRRRGGGGHHH!!!" Johan scratched his head in frustration.

His cheeks turned red. "Yes, I do like her, but how should I say it? Should I just say it right away? It feels too heavy."

Johan’s mind was filled with anxiety and before he knew it, he had arrived at the class that was supposed to be the last class Wlliam taught for the day.

The classroom door was slightly open but he heard no sound. Had William and Ayu gone home? Is the extra lesson over?

Johan peeked a little and his eyes widened instantly with what he saw.

Ayu and William were kissing each other.
