Chapter 830: Consultation - Part 1
"Any updates from Deputy or Ethan?" Aria turned to Noah who had been oddly silent since they had woken up. He hadn’t spoken much to her, making her all the more tense.
"No. But I guess no news is good news," Noah replied curtly.
Aria nodded and returned to the kitchen once she was done having her breakfast.
Joshua had yet to wake up and Ian had returned only some time ago after finishing his night shift. And her father was exercising. So, it was just her and Noah at the dining table.
"Let me check on Ivy. She must be awake by now." Aria patted her palms and picked up her phone.
Like every other time, Aria knocked at the door and entered the room. As expected, Ivy was wide awake and was staring at the ceiling.
"Good morning," Aria chirped, gaining her sister’s attention to her.
Ivy blinked in greeting and smiled at her.
"How are you feeling today?"
Ivy nodded and Aria beamed at her.
"Do you want to get up?"
Ivy’s face scrunched up and she looked at her pleadingly.
Aria wasn’t a fool who didn’t understand what her sister was asking her. She more or less understood Ivy and her intentions.
Ivy was like a stallion, running free and wild in the grasslands. After living a carefree life, she couldn’t accept her current life. She felt like a horse in the stable, with her freedom restricted.
"Nope, no." Aria shook her head, and Ivy’s heart dropped and her face deflated, losing all her hope. "Not until the next Monday."
Ivy glared at her and gritted her teeth in dissatisfaction. However, Aria remained adamant, and eventually, Ivy gave up pleading. Her puppy face wouldn’t work on her sister.
"Do you want to freshen up?"
Ivy raised her hand and Aria understood her instantly.
"Five minutes it is. Fine."
Aria sat beside her sister and looked at Ivy for a few seconds, making her apprehensive.
’Why is Aria staring at me as if she is about to interrogate me?’ Ivy wondered and bit her lip. ’Did I do something? Did something happen? But what did I do? I was in this room all the time. I didn’t disobey her, did I?’
Ivy’s thoughts started to run wild and she gripped the duvet tight, hoping her sister to remain calm and not be angry at her. An angry Aria was not someone she wanted to face, ever.
Aria may be younger than her by a few minutes. Most of the time, she was as docile as a lamb, making everyone lower their guard. But she could be a monster if she was pissed and Ivy didn’t want to face that side of hers.
After avoiding her sister’s gaze for some time, Ivy finally surrendered and returned to looking back at her. Quirking her brows, she questioned her, silently asking her what was wrong.
"Ivy..." Aria bit the inside of her cheek. "Have you and Joshua reconciled?"
Aria hadn’t been able to ask her the previous night. Ivy had gone to sleep the moment they returned from the garden.
Ivy shook her head and denied it immediately.
"I thought you forgave him," Aria mumbled and Ivy raised her hands, asking her to give her a phone.
Aria opened a chat box and handed it to her and Ivy started typing whatever she wanted to tell her.
’We are over. We won’t be getting back together ever.’ Ivy turned the phone towards her sister and Aria read her text.
Aria didn’t know if she should be relieved or feel sad for Joshua. Over the last few weeks, she had seen Joshua repenting his actions. He hadn’t left Ivy’s side even once and had cared for her dearly. The man loved her sister deeply but fell prey to a sinister plot, leading him to lose Ivy.
’I hope you’ll always be happy, Ivy,’ Aria wished in her mind. Although she felt bad for Joshua, he deserved it anyway. Who asked him to hurt her sister? If Ivy didn’t want to do anything with him, then she had no intentions of pushing her to him.
"I see. Oh, I forgot to tell you something." Aria smacked her forehead, chastising her forgetfulness.
Ivy raised her brows inquisitively and blinked at her a few times.
"I will have to go to the hospital in the afternoon. I will return by dinner time."
Aria had made it a habit to inform her sister whenever she had work. It was a form of assurance for her as well as Ivy.
Aria didn’t dare tell her the real reason. She had accepted that she was suffering from PTSD. But it would be hard for her sister to accept it. There was a high chance that Ivy would blame herself for her condition and eventually, trigger the bad memories.
Ivy was already disturbed. Aria didn’t intend to stress her all the more.
Ivy nodded in understanding and Aria grinned.
"Dad will be here and I think your colleagues will be coming over as well in the evening."
Ivy gave her a thumbs up and returned Aria’s phone to her.
"Shit! I forgot to buy you a phone." Aria smacked her head again, startling Ivy. "Sorry, Ivy. I don’t know why it slipped from my mind. I’ll buy you a phone today."
Ivy held her hand as if asking her to relax. There was no hurry.
"I think I have become forgetful," Aria sighed and her shoulders drooped. "Looks like all I have in my mind is you."
Ivy snatched her phone again and started typing, puzzling her sister with her actions.
’Please don’t. Noah will be jealous and I can’t afford his jealousy.’
"Let him be jealous. He is a fool if he is jealous of my sister," Aria scoffed and Ivy let out a silent laugh.
’Please spare me, sister, and stop being mushy with me. It’s creeping the hell out of me.’
"Oh, please. You can’t escape from me, alright? Not in this life. So, you’ll have to bear with me and my creepiness."
’Someone save me.’
"No one can save you. It’s better to accept the truth as quickly as possible. Now, are you getting up, or do you want to lie on the bed for some more time?"
’Get up, get up. I’m getting up.’
Aria smiled cheekily and Ivy rolled her eyes as she got ready for the day.
