Chapter 796: Joshua’s declaration of love
Aria’s lips arched up when she saw the message Maggie had sent her while Noah looked on.
"Aria, what’s happening?"
"The fish has taken the bait. Get prepared. We’ll soon be entering the battlefield." Aria warned.
"Aria, this plan is risky. I don’t want you..."
"No, don’t." Aria stopped him before he could finish it and Noah stopped speaking immediately. "I don’t want to get into a fight with you on this matter. Either we do it together or I do it alone. You choose."
Noah gave up persuading when he realized he was close to pissing her off and that was the last thing he wanted. He couldn’t allow her to be mad at him. That’d kill him.
"Fine. We’ll do it together. I’ll never leave you alone."
"You better not." Aria’s reply was instant and Noah was glad that he had managed to appease her before the grenade went off.
"It’ll take Jared at least twelve hours to return to the country and by then, we’d have moved Ivy back to the mansion. What a perfect plan!" Aria stated.
Noah let out a breath as he sent Ronnie a message to start preparing. There’d be a bloodbath soon.
"Aria, are you sure that Jared would enter our mansion? After all, it’s not safe for him." Noah wasn’t that confident that the plan would work. Why would Jared willingly put his life in danger and enter his turf? He must be a fool to do so.
"Oh, he will. Don’t worry." Aria smiled. "His ego has been wounded. He will make an attempt to kill Ivy in our house. You just wait to capture him."
Noah didn’t reply to her this time. He was still skeptical about the plan. Nevertheless, he made arrangements for it. He couldn’t let his guard down just because he didn’t have faith in the plan.
"It’s almost time for Ivy to wake up again. Let me check."
"I’ll come with you."
Aria and Noah entered the ICU and once again, Aria ignored the man who hadn’t left his sister’s side even once since the previous night. If Joshua hadn’t hurt Ivy, Aria would’ve been touched by his dedication and love. But after the incident, she felt all his affection to be a joke, a mirage that would vanish any time.
Aria was back to herself after her sister woke up. She could check her vitals herself and even attend to her. She didn’t need the other doctor’s involvement in such things.
Without another glance at Joshua, she checked Ivy’s condition and once she made sure that her sister was fine, she took the other chair while Noah remained standing.
Just as they had expected, Ivy’s eyeballs moved a few times before her eyes fluttered open. She was in a daze for a few moments, the lingering effects of the medicine rendering her incapable of comprehending anything. She looked disoriented and lost before she saw Noah standing by her side from her peripheral vision.
"How are you doing, Sister?" She heard Aria ask and saw her stand up the next instant. "Are you recovering well?"
Ivy blinked once in reply and Aria beamed at her.
"Good. Good." Aria chirped and Ivy’s restless heart calmed down when she saw her sister’s smile.
However, it was only momentary. The next instant, she heard Joshua’s voice from the other side and her heart shook again.
"Ivy?"
Ivy heard his voice but didn’t look at him. Given that her condition restricted her from moving, she used it to her advantage and ignored him. Since the day he broke up with her, she was done with him. He was now a stranger to her.
"Ivy, may I please say something?"
Ivy didn’t react. Although his presence affected her, it was only in a negative way.
"I want to apologize for what I did to you. May I?"
Again, no reaction.
Joshua felt suffocated when he noticed her blank gaze. He couldn’t bring himself to look at her directly at all. He had been waiting for her to wake up. But when it finally happened, he didn’t know what to do.
"Ivy, please forgive me for what I did to you. I was selfish and stupid and hurt you deeply. I chose to safeguard myself over your love and I will forever regret it." Joshua’s eyes stung with tears. But he tried to control them.
"I’m not asking you to give me another chance. I just want to apologize for my deeds and if you ever feel that I’m not apologetic enough, I’ll apologize to you for my entire life." Joshua declared.
But his words had no effect on her. Her heart had turned to stone and she didn’t need him anymore in her life. She didn’t need any man other than her father. She was better off on her own with her small family.
"I know my words may seem superficial after what I did. But please trust me when I say I’ll forever regret my actions." Joshua said, his tone laced with remorse and sorrow.
"It was only after you left me that I realized how much you mean to me. I know I didn’t cherish you when you were with me. So I have no right to say all these things to you. But trust me, I don’t want to lose you again."
Joshua sucked in a deep breath as he mustered all the courage in him. "I love you. I love you so damn much. So, I’ll never give up on you. Never, Ivy. I lost you once. Never again."
Aria was surprised by his words and she stared at him in shock. But Noah remained unaffected. It was as if he had expected it. If Joshua had given up on Ivy after all the stunts he pulled the last few days, he’d have seriously doubted his friend’s feelings for her and would reconsider his friendship with him.
Ivy didn’t react even once during his monologue. But Joshua was not discouraged by it. Instead, he took it as his motivation to work hard and show his love for her, show her how sorry he was for what he did.
Ivy was his life and he’d never let her go. Never.
