Chapter 794: Phone call - Part 1

When Valerie, Maggie, Preston, and Ryder arrived at the hospital, Ivy was still asleep. After regaining consciousness once the previous night, she hadn’t woken up again. But it was expected, considering she had been induced with strong medicines. It was bound to knock her out for a good few hours.

Joshua hadn’t moved an inch from his place except for the time when he had used the washroom to freshen up. He was waiting for Ivy to wake up. He was waiting to see her beautiful eyes. He was waiting to speak to her and beg for forgiveness even though he didn’t deserve it.

And just like every other day, Aria and Oliver ignored him and his antics. They focused solely on taking care of Ivy and ensuring her well-being.

"How is she, Aria?" Maggie questioned the moment she saw her.

"She is out of danger, Maggie," Aria couldn’t hide her relief, and Maggie’s expression mirrored hers and she too sighed in relief.

"She’s currently asleep, though. Strong meds and all."

"Not a problem, Aria. We won’t be a hindrance. We just want to see her," Valerie assured, and Aria gave her a look, a silent conversation ensuing between them which none of the men noticed.

Once Aria got the message she was looking for, she nodded at them and gestured towards the ICU.

Valerie and Preston were the first ones to enter, and their gazes immediately fell on Ivy, who was deep asleep, and then at the man holding her hand tightly.

Joshua ignored the visitors. His gaze and attention were solely fixed on Ivy, and she was all that mattered to him. No one else.

"Hey, Ivy," Valerie started the conversation while Preston just looked at the sleeping woman sadly.

"Thank you for not giving up. Get well soon, and I’ll meet you once you’ve recovered well. Also, let’s all go on vacation once everything is settled. Only girls, no men allowed," Valerie glanced at Joshua, her eyes not holding any emotion as she stared at him before she looked at Maggie with a soft smile on her face.

"Get well soon, Ivy," Preston could only bring himself to say a few words. He was not a man of many words, especially when he held himself equally responsible for her state. "And I’m sorry."

That was all he could say before he left the ICU, and Valerie followed him right after.

Next, it was Maggie and Ryder’s turn, and Maggie almost skipped towards Ivy as soon as she entered the ICU.

"Hi, Ivy. I’m so happy that you woke up. Do you have any idea how much you scared me?" She complained, and Ryder nudged her side instantly when he realized how off-track she was going. There was no need for her to recall the sad events.

"Blimey, look at me," Maggie changed her tone instantly and cursed herself a thousand times for losing control for a moment. She stuck out her tongue apologetically, and Ryder shook his head helplessly.

"Now, all you should focus on is getting well. Your priority is to recover well so that we can all go on a trip. Yes, Aria told me about it. Didn’t you want to go on a road trip in New Zealand? Let’s go," she chirped.

Ivy’s eyelids moved as if in response, as if she was agreeing to it and Maggie’s smile widened when she saw it.

"Great. I’ll make all the plans. We’re going to have a great time."

"Ivy, get well soon so that you all can take your vacation," Ryder added. "Maggie is desperate to go on one."

Maggie glared at him immediately while Ryder looked at her lovingly.

"Jokes aside. Get well soon, Ivy. Let’s all have a barbecue party."

"Yay, a barbecue party doesn’t sound bad as well. We can have one with everyone else. But the trip will be an all-girls one. No men allowed."

Once again, Ivy’s eyelids moved, and Maggie couldn’t stop beaming. Even Ryder was happy to see it, and he gave Maggie a shoulder hug in joy.

"We’ll visit you again, Ivy. Take care."

After having a hearty talk, the couple left the ICU as well and joined Valerie and Preston, who were deep in conversation with Aria and Noah.

"Are you guys done?" Valerie questioned the moment the couple joined them, and Maggie nodded at her in reply.

"Then, we should get going. We have got a new case at hand," Valerie informed them, and Maggie’s smile vanished instantly. She donned her professional face as she turned towards Aria.

"Aria, take care. I’ll call you later," Maggie gave her a look, which Aria understood.

"Surely. Take care."

The four people then bid farewell before departing from the hospital.

While Maggie, Valerie, and Ryder engaged in small talk on their way back, Preston didn’t speak a word, and no one forced him to as well. They allowed him to take his time and collect himself first.

After all, he was not having it easy either. They felt bad for him. But it was the path he had chosen. So, he had to endure the pain that came along with it.

"Val, what’s this new case about?" Ryder questioned once they were close to the Intelligence.

"I’m not sure as well. One of the other departments is facing some problems with their investigation, and they need help. So, we’re assisting them," Valerie explained.

"Oh!" Ryder mused thoughtfully.

"The plan is all set. Noah’s men are ready as well. Now, all that remains is for Jared to take the bait and return to the country." Although Maggie and Ryder didn’t ask her, she explained it herself, revealing to them what they were discussing when they were waiting for them outside.

"Got it. I’ll not mess it up. I promise," Preston declared all of a sudden, finally breaking his silence.

"I expect nothing less from you," Valerie’s reply was instant, and that eased Preston’s heart a little.

Preston’s phone rang when they stepped out of the car, and he stared at the unfamiliar number. With a frown, he picked it up instantly.

"Hello?"

"Hello, Preston. It’s me, Jared."
