Chapter 784: Regretful

"Boss, is he really telling the truth?" Ronnie questioned once Preston was out of the room. He could still not bring himself to trust the man. He had loads of opportunities to kill Jared. But he had done nothing and was now hoping for them to help him end the vile creature.

"He is." Noah sighed and pressed the space between his brows. Since the gruesome incident, he hadn’t slept well. It was not just him, none of the people around him had slept well and the lack of sleep coupled with the stress was taking a toll on his body.

Ronnie didn’t know what to say. Everything was so convoluted that his brain was close to short-circuiting. Could they have a break, please? He wanted everyone to go on a vacation, somewhere where Jared could never reach and have a moment of peace.

But vacation had to wait. With Ivy still in a coma and Jared still at large, it was impossible to leave their turf.

"What are we going to do now, Boss?" Ronnie questioned after a long stretch of silence.

"We neglected to protect Ivy and look what happened." Noah was filled with guilt and self-loathing. If only he had attacked Jared before the creature attacked him... Alas, there was no room for regrets now.

"Increase the guards around all family members. I don’t want to take any risks." Noah ordered. He had learned his lesson from the incident and now, he was unwilling to take any risks. Although from Jared’s words, he knew who he wanted to target, he didn’t let his guard down and neglect the other people.

"Already done, Boss." Ronnie had already six guards for each family member the day Ivy fell into a coma. He didn’t even seek his Boss’ permission to do so for he knew that his Boss too had the same thoughts as him when it came to protecting his family.

"Good." Noah sighed and looked at his phone, opening the message Jared had last sent him. It was a video and he didn’t have to guess what it was. Jared had sent the video of how he had harmed Ivy, Aria and Stuart to rile him and Noah didn’t have the guts to watch it. He knew it would kill him to see the scene.

"Boss, aren’t you going..."

"No, Ronnie. Not now." Noah’s expression hardened and he locked his phone instantly. "I’ll watch it when Ivy wakes up."

Ronnie didn’t know what was running in his Boss’ mind. But he didn’t question him about it. Moreover, something was bugging his mind and the thought had kept him concerned for a few days. But he hadn’t had the time to investigate it or even relay it to his Boss.

"Umm, Boss..." He hesitated and Noah raised his head when he heard his strange tone.

"What’s wrong, Ronnie?" Noah gave him an enquiring look and Ronnie licked his lips before he voiced his thoughts.

"Boss, what about Amber? Do we...."

"How did I forget about her?" Noah’s let out a sneer and Ronnie stopped speaking immediately. "Send our men to capture her immediately. I should have done it long ago."

"Yes, Boss." Ronnie pulled out his phone and sent a text before he returned his attention to the man before him.

"Boss, do you think she’s involved in Miss West’s incident?"

"She has to be. Otherwise, Jared’s men can’t have captured Ivy. How did they know that Ivy would leave Joshua’s mansion and that too suddenly without any guards? They must have planned it." Noah stated his analysis. He had detected the possibility long ago when he had a moment to himself and could think carefully.

"Joshua said he met Amber and something she said must have triggered him for him to break up with Ivy immediately after," Noah explained further. "It was a meticulously designed plan Jared came up with."

"In that case Boss, will we be able to catch Amber then? What if she’s gone into hiding along with Jared?"

"Amber’s usefulness is over now. He could only use her to destroy Joshua. Now that the purpose has been served, there is no need for him to think about her." Noah was damn sure about it.

Why would Jared bring Amber along with him and increase the chances of him getting caught? Either Amber was still here or she was already dead. And Noah wanted her to be alive. She was Ivy’s to take care of her.

"Boss, do we tell Master Martin about it?"

"There’s no need, Ronnie." Noah denied his suggestion right away. "Joshua is not himself anymore and I don’t want him to interfere in Ivy’s matters anymore. I made a mistake by not objecting to him being with Ivy. If only I had, we might not have ended up like this."

Noah regretted it. He regretted not objecting to their relationship. Why did he even trust his friend when he knew Amber had ruined him completely? Why? Joshua had lost all sense of commitment since then and Ivy had come as a hope in his life. But now, the ’hope’ herself got destroyed by trusting the wrong person.

Noah felt pathetic and extremely apologetic. Joshua was his friend. But that couldn’t brush the fact that he had hurt Ivy to protect himself and that was enough for him to hate him for life.

He didn’t know if he could ever forgive Joshua for what he did. But he was sure of one thing. He’d never allow Ivy to be with him in the future. He didn’t deserve such a lovely soul. He was better off with a person like Amber.

"Boss?" Ronnie called his Boss again when he noticed him going into a stupor and Noah snapped out of his thoughts immediately.

"Sorry about that." Noah blinked a few times before shaking his head to clear his head. "I can’t forget what Joshua did to Ivy. I can’t even imagine what she must have gone through when he decided to break up with her just like that."

"Boss...." Ronnie didn’t know what to say and his face that barely showed any emotions was filled with despair.

"You know I was close to experiencing that pain when I thought Aria would leave me as well when I had hurt her instead of her father. But she.... she didn’t leave me which I’ll be eternally grateful for." He recalled the time when his kick that was intended for Oliver had landed on Aria. At that moment, he felt his entire soul being sucked out of him.

"Boss..."

"Ronnie, I was lucky enough to get Aria back in my life." Noah raised his head as he stared at Ronnie with his eyes holding a myriad of emotions. "But Joshua isn’t. After all this, I don’t think Ivy will ever trust him. Heck, I’ll not be surprised if she doesn’t trust another man in her life."
