Falling For My Accidental CEO Husband -
Chapter 84: Meeting Sidney
Chapter 84: Meeting Sidney
As Sidney reached Mabel Hawk’s office, his eyes instinctively swept around the familiar surroundings. The place hadn’t changed. It was still as cold and impersonal as ever. The sleek, minimalist design, the absence of any personal touches—it was exactly as he remembered. Yet, despite the sterile atmosphere, he couldn’t help but feel a wave of nostalgia wash over him. This office, this building, had been a significant part of his life. It was here that he had been sent to train under the formidable Mabel Hawk, and back then, he had been nothing short of terrified.
And yet, he now knew the softness hidden beneath that coldness, which was what had made him respect her more. In Mabel Hawk, he’d gained not just a mentor but also a doting grandmother. Instead of going towards the old chairwoman’s office, he turned towards the Drafts room. It was where he’d spent the first month of his internship, cursing the old woman for burying him under the mound of useless paperwork.
Just as Sidney was about to push open the door to the Drafts Room, a voice called out to him from behind.
"Mr. Price, the chairwoman is waiting for you."
As he reached the Chairwoman’s room, he instinctively turned around, and his eyes widened at the sight of the draft room door open. There was a woman inside, her head downturned. He paused for a second, curious about who the older woman had taken under her wing but before he could look closely, Mabel Hawk’s voice beckoned hm from inside," Sidney! Are you going to keep standing there?"
"I would never dare to keep you waiting," Sidney said, settling into a chair opposite her.
"Good," Mabel replied, her tone as sharp as ever. "So, what brings you here today?"
"I came to apologize for my tardiness," Sidney said earnestly. "I had to leave the other day. It was something urgent."
Mabel Hawk nodded thoughtfully. "And did things turn out as you had hoped?"
"Not really," Sidney admitted, his voice tinged with frustration. "I... I lost."
Mabel’s eyes narrowed slightly, but her expression remained neutral. "You’ve been searching for someone, haven’t you? Who is it?"
Sidney looked up, surprise etched on his face. "How did you know?"
Mabel shrugged nonchalantly. "It’s not particularly difficult to figure out if one pays attention. I noticed the concern on your face when you left that night, and it wasn’t hard to find out more. So, who are you looking for?"
Sidney sighed deeply, the weight of his concern evident in his demeanor. "Someone very important to me," he said, his voice carrying a note of anguish. He paused before continuing, "Her life is in danger because of me."
"I see. And can you share who it is? Maybe I can help?" Mabel asked slowly.
Sidney looked at the older woman in surprise. He had not expected this. While his network was vast, Mabel Hawk’s was cast further and wider so maybe she could help.
"I’d be relaly grateful if you could. I am lookinf for a girl.. Here, let me show you her picture..."
Before he could take out the picture on hos phone gallery and show it to her, there was a knock on the door and the secretary interrupted with an apologetic look,"Madam. Mr Hawk is here."
Mabel looked up in surprise at that. "Well this is interesting. Let him come in."
Hearing that Aiden had arrived, Sidney turned off his cell phone and slipped it back into his pocket. There was no way he was going to let Aiden see Serena’s picture.
Aiden walked in casually murmuring," Grandma. I’ve come to rescue my wife..." Catching a glimpse of his nemesis sitting there, Aiden stilled, his eyes narrowing as multiple questions ran through his head. What was Sidney doing here and had he met Serena?
Stiffly, he gave a cold look to the man and then turned to his own grandmother, "I didn’t realise you had a guest. I can wait outside."
Grandma frowned, "Can you two not make peace with the past?"
"No." The two men answered simultaneously as Aiden whipped around and walked out." I’ll go and get my wife."
Sidney narrowed his eyes. Aiden had come here to take his wife.
"He’s changed." Sidney commented, using this perfect opportunity to find out more about Aiden’s wife.
He turned back to look at Mabel Hawk who nodded," Has he? How can you tell from a glimpse?"
"He would have picked up a fight with me otherwise. Instead he turned around and walked out."
Mabel Hawk laughed. "You are astute as ever, Sidney! Even though you two boys seem to hate each other, you can still read each other like the best of friends."
Sidney looked away then. Maybe if things had turned out differently, they would have been friends but... Sidney shook his head. Now, was not the time...
"Aiden has indeed changed a bit. He’s now a doting husband. I’m just happy that he has found the love of his life. And she is such a smart girl too. A perfect match for Aiden."
"You really are impressed with his wife, Chairwoman. So, if I’m not wrong, you’ve taken her under your wing, to teach her the ropes of business?"
Mabel Hawk grinned. "Of course, like I said she is a smart girl. With a little bit of polishing, she will be able to stand on par with Aiden! In fact, I have a feeling that she might be able to out manouever not just Aiden but even you. Serena is that smart."
Sidney stilled as he heard the name," Serena?"
Mabel Hawk nodded," Uh huh. Serena. Aiden’s wife."
Sidney stood up with a jerk. Aiden’s wife was named Serena. Could it really be a coincidence? " I want to meet his wife, Chairwoman. Will you introduce me?"
Without waitinf for a reply, Sidney hurried towards the Drafts room, almost stumbling over his own foot in his haste to get there.
