Falling For My Accidental CEO Husband -
Chapter 74: Who Is This?
Chapter 74: Who Is This?
Sidney Price stared at the woman on the bed and felt his hope crumble all over again. This was not Serena... But the person in the other room was indeed Owen so... where was Serena? She was still out there, somewhere, and he had come so close—closer than ever before—and yet, here he was, standing in a room with a stranger. But the person in the other room was indeed Owen.
And this woman was indeed the victim that had been rescued from the carnage. So where in the world was Serena? How had he gone from being on the verge of finding her last night to not having a single clue about her whereabouts now?
Sidney exhaled sharply, frustration boiling over as he ran a hand through his hair. He turned abruptly to his assistant, his eyes hard with anger and impatience. "What happened? What’s been going on? Tell me everything!"
Last night, when he’d been at the Hawk’s party, he’d received a call from one of his informants about Owen contacting them and ordering to roughen up someone. The man had even sent pictures of the place where they had been doing the job. And there, in the background of one of those photos, unmistakably, had been Serena. It was her.
Without a second thought, he’d rushed out of the party. He had been so certain that he was finally going to reach her, that it was only a matter of moments. But when he arrived at the address, the street had been eerily silent, deserted as if no one had set foot there in years. No signs of a struggle. No Serena. No Owen. It was as if they had never been there.
And yet, he’d finally found the place which had appeared in the video that Owen had shared with him. After checking everything, he’d finally found Owen’s house but that too had been empty.
Then had come another message from Owen. Asking for more money. He had given that too, and then waited all night to receive the location of the place.
"Someone hacked into your phone, sir. I don’t know how. But we are trying to find the culprit. It seems they bribed someone from the team." His thoughts were interrupted by the assistant’s nervous answer.
He whipped around then. "What do you mean my phone was hacked? What happened to the regular checks of all electronical devices to look for bugs and leaks?"
"Someone purposely tampered with your phone last time, sir. I’ve already deployed the ’other’ team to look into it. That is why when you received the message with the location, they were able to get here much faster."
A moment of silence reigned then. So, he was the reason for everything that happened this morning. What kind of a fate was this? The woman he had vowed to protect all his life, why was it that he always ended up leading danger to her.
"But I don’t understand, Sir? How is it possible that Miss Serena was not there in the house? Wasn’t she supposed to have been tied up? But according to the police, Owen Thompson and this woman had been tied up in the inner room while no one else was in the house. How is that possible? Wasn’t Miss Serena the one who had been kidnapped?"
Sidney smiled then, " Because, she is Serena. It is not easy to hold her. She is quiet and doesn’t talk much, but she is crafty and cold. Her looks are deceiving, making her look frail and innocent, which tends to fool people. She is the Sole heiress of her family. Do you think this was the first time she was kidnapped?"
Sidney thought back to the time when Serena had been kidnapped. She’d been barely eleven. He remembered Grandma Dawn shaking up the entire household to look for her. The entire police force, detectives everyone from the city had been summoned to look for her. But before they could be deployed, Serena had returned home, alone with nary a scratch to show...
It was only later, when she had led the police back to the kidnappers that they had discovered what she had done. She had pretended to have severe diarrhoea and then escaped them from the bathroom. She’d even used her own watch as a recorder and recorded her painful voice, leaving it behind so that they kidnappers would not know that she had escaped.
Those poor kidnappers had not even suspected that the child they had carefully snatched after months of planning had already escaped from them.
"But sir, why then was Owen able to hold her to ranson all this while?"
"Because she thought that she was in love. Somehow, my Serena thought she was in love with that Owen and eloped with him. I’m just relieved that she didn’t marry him... And now that he was found tied up... I think she’s finally discovered the truth. But where is she now? If she left Owen, she should have returned to me. She’d promised me that..."
Just then, there was a knock on the door and a nurse entered the room, her face covered with a mask. "Excuse me, sir? I need to give this miss a rub down. If you would please step out? Also, the man next door has woken up if you’d like to visit him."
Hearing that Owen was awake, Sidney hurriedly stepped out of the room, his assistant following him closely. The door had barely closed when the nurse hurriedly stepped close to the patient and pushed an injection into the IV before rushing out.
She’d turned the corridor when the commotion sounded as securitt personnel started to run around to catch the woman who had killed Owen Thompson... A few minutes later, the woman on the bed- Maya- also breathed her last as the doctors tried to save her...
Unbelievably, Serena had escaped another death attempt while she remained unaware of it...
