Chapter 39: Goodbye

"Seriously? You’re giving me a black card?" Serena asked, raising an eyebrow as she cautiously took the card between her fingers, eyeing it as if it were a poisonous snake. "What on earth do I need this for?"

"It’s not just any card; it’s a supplementary black card," he explained,"And, believe it or not, it’s Grandma’s orders."

"Grandma?" Serena’s eyes narrowed in suspicion as she studied him. "Why would she—"

"She thinks I’ve been too stingy with you," Aiden interrupted, "According to her, the fact that you haven’t gone shopping even once since we’ve been together means I must be withholding your funds. So, she decided I needed to rectify that. Hence the card. It’s linked directly to my account, so you can spend to your heart’s content."

"Is that so?" Serena mused, a mischievous smile creeping onto her lips as she twirled the card between her fingers. "So, grandma thinks I should be out there spending like crazy, huh? Maybe I should take her advice and make you go bankrupt."

Aiden laughed then and shrugged his shoulders "You’re welcome to try," he challenged. "But I should warn you, it’s not that easy to drain my account. Though, I’d be impressed if you managed it."

"Oh, is that a dare?" Serena arched an eyebrow, "Because now I’m really tempted to see just how high the limit on this card is. I could start with a few designer boutiques, maybe a car or two, and then there’s always real estate. How many beach houses do you think I could buy before you notice?"

"Why stop there?" Aiden grinned, leaning back in his chair, "You could throw in a private jet, maybe a yacht or two."

Serena glared at him then, placing her hands on her hips," Aiden Hawk! Are you showing off Alright, fine. I’ll hold off on bankrupting you... for now. But don’t think I won’t keep this little gem in my back pocket. Someday, when you are not expecting it, there might be a bill sent to you, long enough to stretch across the room."

"I’ll look forward to it." Aiden winked at her and then stood up," Goodbye then, Mrs Hawk. I’ll be leaving for work now so that I can earn some more money for you to spend."

Serena waved him off before placing the esteemed black card aside and digging into her food. All she needed from Aiden Hawk was the food he cooked. Not that she was going to tell him that. But the man had magical hands! He could go bankrupt and open a restaurant and he’d be rich again.

As Aiden reached for the doorknob, the door swung open, revealing his grandmother standing in the doorway. Surprised, he stepped aside to let her enter and questioned," What brings you here early in the morning? Did you need something? You should have sent for me."

Mabel Hawk waved aside his concern and taking hold of his wrist walked back towards the island where Serena was still eating." I was bored sitting in that place. So, I thought I’ll come here. And I was just in time. I think Aiden was just about to leave, weren’t you?"

Aided nodded and Grandma continued," Okay. I won’t take up much of your time. Ask Assistant An to clear your schedule for the next weekend. We are having a celebration at home. I’ve decided to throw a ball next week to celebrate your marriage and introduce Serena as the daughter in law of the family. It’ll be a grand affair—nothing too extravagant, of course—but something worthy of the Hawk name.

Serena nearly choked on her food at Grandma Hawk’s announcement, her eyes widening in surprise while the food in her mouth suddenly tasted like wool. "A celebration? Next week? Grandma, that seems a bit—"

"Too much?" Aiden finished for her, "Don’t you think it’s a bit too soon for something like that? We’re still settling in—"

"Nonsense!" Grandma Hawk waved her hand dismissively, cutting off any further objections. "It’s never too soon to celebrate a marriage, especially one as important as yours. And it’s high time everyone met Serena officially. The arrangements are already in motion, so you both just need to show up and look your best."

Aiden and Serena exchanged a glance wanting to refuse. But before they could say anything else, she turned her attention back to Aiden.

"Now, you should get to work," she said, "Go on, Aiden. We’ll talk more about the details later."

Aiden sighed, knowing when he was beaten. "Alright, Grandma. I’ll leave now." He began to walk towards the door, only to hear her voice stop him just as he reached the threshold.

"Aiden," Grandma Hawk called out, "you’ve forgotten something. Aiyah! Now that my grandson is all grown up, he won’t even give me goodbye kisses like he used to."

Aiden paused and rolled his eyes. Now that she’d had her way, grandma was feeling playful? Just who was the grandchild here? "Of course not, how could I forget to say bye?" Dutifully, he walked back to his grandmother, and pressed a kiss to her cheek. "Goodbye, Grandma."

"That’s better," she nodded approvingly, but then her eyes narrowed as she looked pointedly at Serena. "But you’re still missing something."

Aiden and Serena both froze, their eyes widening in horror as Grandma’s gaze turned expectant. Serena’s cheeks flushed a faint pink, while Aiden scratched the back of his neck.

"I already did it, Grandma..."

Grandma rolled his eyes and pointed at him," Are you saying that you cannot kiss your wife again? Really, Aiden Hawk? What man misses a chance to kiss his wife?"

With a resigned sigh, Aiden turned back to Serena and walked over to her and almost stopped short. She looked like she was going to be executed. Suddenly, he was almost excited to kiss her.

Gently, he cupped her face in his hands, his fingers brushing lightly against her cheeks as she pouted, urgently moving her pupils to signal not to kiss him. He gave her an " I can’t help it" expression and leaned down...
