Falling For My Accidental CEO Husband -
Chapter 215: What?
Chapter 215: What?
She smiled and shook her head. "Of course not. But here’s the thing... according to the papers in my hand, you are definitely a fool."
Matthew froze, his expression shifting from irritation and being ready to attack to confusion. He turned away his attention from the trophy on the tray table to Ava and he frowned. "Ava, what do you mean the papers in your hand say I am a fool?"
Ava shrugged and stared at her father, her gaze sharp and unwavering. Even now, standing in front of him, she could hardly believe what he had done. He had signed away all his shares in the company, sold every piece of property, withdrawn funds from every investment, and skipped payments on millions of dollars in loans. And as if that wasn’t enough, he was planning to leave the country. All of this mess was now hers to deal with with her as the guarantor, with her as the second investor.
When Sidney had first called to tell her about the situation, she had refused to believe it. She couldn’t imagine her father doing something so drastic and irresponsible. Even when Sidney insisted and almost blackmailed her to meet him here, she had held on to the hope that it was all some kind of misunderstanding.
She had come here as Sidney had asked, taken the papers he gave her, and still tried to convince herself it couldn’t be true. Even as she boarded the plane, she kept hoping for an explanation that would make sense, something to prove that her father wasn’t abandoning her like this.
But the truth was right there in her hands. The details spelled out in black and white left no room for doubt. Her father wasn’t just leaving her in a lurch. He was throwing her to the wolves, walking away from everything and abandoning her completely.
nstead of answering him, Ava clutched the papers tighter in her hand, her knuckles whitening as she glanced at the crowd around them. The curious faces watching the scene unfold made her stomach twist with irritation. Some people had even started taking pictures and recording videos. The soft hum of whispers filled the air, and Ava felt the weight of their stares.
Her gaze shifted to the cabin crew standing behind her father. With a sharp glance, she signaled for them to stop the onlookers from filming. Once she was sure her message was understood, she turned back to her father. "Dad," she said firmly, her voice carrying a quiet authority, "I think you need to come with me."
She spun on her heel, ready to leave, fully expecting him to follow her without hesitation. But when she didn’t hear his footsteps behind her, she turned slightly to see him rooted in place.
Matthew hesitated, his hands flexing at his sides as he struggled to find the right words. "I can’t go, Ava," he said finally, his voice softening. "Sweetheart, I have to leave today. I’ll... I’ll call you when I get there."
Before Ava could respond, the air hostess who had been nearby frowned in confusion. "But didn’t you just say you wanted to get off the plane?" she asked, tilting her head slightly.
Matthew’s face darkened as he shot her a scathing look, irritation flickering in his eyes. He gritted his teeth, resisting the urge to lash out. He couldn’t afford to make a scene—not now, not with everyone watching so intently. The cabin was too quiet, and all eyes were locked on him. He clenched his jaw, realizing it wouldn’t be so easy to retreat without further questions.
Ava, however, remained calm. She shrugged, her tone laced with a casual indifference that only made Matthew more uneasy. "Sorry, Dad," she said, her words deliberate and measured. "You can’t leave. I did tell you I have these papers in my hand, didn’t I?"
This time, her voice carried a sharp edge, one that sliced through his confidence and made him freeze. Matthew’s chest tightened as he stared at her. The warning in her tone sent a ripple of unease through him.
What was in those papers? What did she mean? The questions swirled in his mind, but the answers seemed to hover just out of reach.
Matthew’s eyes narrowed, suspicion sharpening his features as he took a step closer to Ava. His voice dropped, cold and laced with controlled anger. "What do those papers say, Ava?" Dam* it! Why was his own daughter, creating trouble for him?
Oh, these?" she said, her tone almost casual. "They’re just a formal declaration that you, Dad, are not in your right mind to make any decisions right now."
His jaw tightened, a muscle ticking in frustration. "What the hell are you talking about? I’m perfectly fine."
She arched an eyebrow, her calm demeanor unwavering despite the storm brewing in his voice. "You say that, but considering your recent actions, it’s hard to agree. These papers," she continued, lifting them slightly, "have been signed by me, Sofie, and... oh yes, your recently ex-wife."
Matthew’s breath hitched, his surprise slipping through for a moment before his face hardened again. "Lydia? She has no business interfering in my life anymore!"
"Maybe not," Ava countered, "But the courts don’t see it that way. Considering your recent back to back actions and your medical history—especially the fact that your biological mother was... umm not all there in the head—we thought it was necessary to take precautions in case you’re losing your mind due to mother’s betrayal."
"You think I’m losing my mind? That’s ridiculous, Ava! And you know it!" Matthew growled in anger.
Dad,just let me make sure you’re okay. The decisions you’ve made recently—signing away everything, leaving debts unpaid, trying to run away—they don’t make sense. And given the family history, we couldn’t ignore the possibility that something might be wrong... you know, that you might have early onset of dementia."
He shook his head, anger and disbelief swirling in his eyes. "This is absurd! You’ve no right to do this!"
"We have every right," Ava replied calmly, though her tone carried an unshakable finality. "You’ve left us no choice. These papers request a full medical evaluation to determine if you’re fit to manage your affairs. Until then, any decisions you’ve made recently are being held under review."
