Falling For My Accidental CEO Husband
Chapter 195: A Wonder

Chapter 195: A Wonder

"Why are you here? Haven’t you done enough?" Ava’s glare could have burned through stone as she fixed her eyes on Serena, who had just stepped into her bedroom. Her chest tightened with anger, the mere sight of this woman igniting a storm of resentment. This woman had destroyed her family. Because of her, Ava’s sister had become the laughingstock of the university, her own career had crumbled into ashes, and her mother...Lydia had been destroyed at Serena’s hands. Ava’s fingers twitched with the urge to hurl something at Serena. To scream until her throat was raw and get rid of this woman.

But Serena, ever composed, raised a single brow in quiet disdain, her calm demeanor only fanning Ava’s fury. Without a word, she crossed the room and placed a file on the bed, unfazed by her glare.

"Here. This is for you. Take a look," Serena said coolly, her tone devoid of any warmth or mocking.

Ava’s eyes darted to the file as though it were a coiled snake ready to strike. Her lips curled in disdain. "What now?" she muttered, snatching it up. "Something else to humiliate me with?" Her voice dripped with bitterness as she stared at the woman in front of her, hating her with every fiber of her being. She had no interest in whatever it was Serena was giving her now.

When she made no move, Serena muttered in exasperation, "Come on, Ava. Just give up the mule headedness and take a look. This might be beneficial to you. Once you agree to the terms in this file, I’ll back off, and you’ll be free from charges of tax evasion and embezzlement. You would be thanking me."

Ava stiffened, her grip tightening on the file. "Why?" she demanded, her voice sharp and brittle. "Why this sudden about-turn? I thought you hated us. That you believed we were responsible for Grandmother’s death. That we poisoned her? What? Now you accept that you were a delusional fool? That we never poisoned her or tried to harm you?"

Serena’s expression didn’t shift, but there was a flicker of something in her eyes—something darker. "Oh, I do blame you for her death. Your entire family turned its back on her when she needed you the most. You neglected her, left her to suffer even when I kept saying that she was being poisoned. Just be thankful that it is not your father who was involved in poisoning her. But I don’t want to keep dragging things. This is where everything ends."

Ava blinked, momentarily thrown off by the shift in tone. "What are you saying? Do you still believe that she was poisoned?" she asked, her voice quieter now, though her wariness remained intact as if expecting Serena to attack her any minute.

Serena’s lips curved into a faint, humorless smile. "I’ve found the person responsible for killing her—and my father."

The words landed like a thunderclap, leaving Ava stunned. Her breath caught as the weight of the claim sank in. "Your father?" she asked, incredulous. "But... he died in an accident. Everyone knows that."

Serena’s expression darkened, and she shook her head slowly. "No, Ava. My father was murdered. Just like Grandmother."

The room fell into a heavy silence. Ava stared at Serena, her mind struggling to process the revelation. Serena had kept on insisting that their grandmother was murdered but she’d simply discarded it all as rumors. As Serena’s desperate attempt to claim everything under the guise of seeking justice. But this... Now, faced with this confession and looking at her face, doubts began to creep in. Had someone really murdered her grandmother? But who?

Serena’s gaze didn’t waver. "Yes," she said simply. "And the evidence points to the same person."

"Who? Who killed your father? And grandmother? And why? What have you discovered?"

"Your grandmother." Serena answered

Ava recoiled, her face a mask of disbelief. "What?" she whispered, shaking her head as though trying to dispel the absurdity of what she’d just heard. "Grandmother? That’s ridiculous! Why would she kill her own son? And then... are you saying she orchestrated her own death? Do you even hear yourself? Have you lost your mind completely?"

Not my grandmother, Ava. Yours," Serena said, her voice cool and calculated. Her eyes bore into Ava’s, unrelenting, as though daring her to challenge the statement. "Just go and ask your father for an explanation, alright? I don’t have the time—or the energy—to explain everything to you. These papers," she continued, pointing to the thick file on the bed in front of Ava, "contain everything you need to resolve your little...problems. They’ll also bring an end to all this nonsense that has tied us together in this unfavorable position."

"Take a good, hard look. The offer stands only until tonight. After that, it’s off the table."

Serena let the weight of her words settle, observing Ava’s reaction of confusion. She didn’t wait for a reply before delivering her final blow. "Oh, and just so you know—Sidney isn’t the forgiving type. If you’re convicted on these charges," she added, her voice softening to a near-whisper, "he won’t think twice before calling off the engagement. So, be smart, Ava. For once."

It wasn’t until she reached the quiet sanctuary of her greenhouse that she allowed herself a moment to breathe clearly. The bait was set, and Ava would bite—it was only a matter of time.

Serena allowed herself a small, satisfied smile. Now, it would begin. They wanted her to back off. She was amazed that she had not seen this coming. Nvidia Corrick wanted her to back off and the best way to do that would be to make her hate Edwina.

And she had almost succeeded. If not for Aiden pointing out the most obvious things, she would not even have seen it coming. Anyway, with this move, they would believe that she was backing off because of what they had shown. Then so be it. It would be a great feeling to beat them at their own game.
