Falling For My Accidental CEO Husband
Chapter 191: Declaration Of War

Chapter 191: Declaration Of War

Serena sat there, frozen, the weight of what she’d just heard pressing down on her chest. She didn’t know whether to feel relief or horror. Or even more curiosity. Where was this son? Did she have a brother?

And her father had fought back with her grandmother. He had refused to bow to Edwina’s manipulations. But what did this mean for them? What had been the true cost of her father’s defiance? The older woman’s threat had not sounded idle...

With trembling hands, Serena clicked on the next audio file. The answer, it seemed, would only come in pieces, but she was determined to put them together.

She braced herself for what might come next. The recording opened with a burst of static before a frantic, panicked voice cut through the silence—her father’s voice.

"Mother! Where is he? Where is my son? Where is Edwin?"

The words were rushed, full of desperation. Serena’s stomach twisted, her hands gripping the edge of the desk as she leaned closer, trying to absorb every word. Her father’s anger and fear were unmistakable. And so was the missing baby from the picture...

Edwina’s voice followed, cold and distant, as if she had anticipated the question but was indifferent to the worry in her son’s voice.

"If you had returned, Edward, your children would have been well protected. But you chose to abandon us. To abandon everything I did for you."

Her voice was smooth, laced with that characteristic manipulation, but there was an eerie calmness to it that sent a chill down Serena’s spine. She could hear the subtle but unmistakable satisfaction in her grandmother’s tone.

Edward’s voice rose again, sharp and panicked.

"Don’t play games with me, mother. Where is my son? Where is he? I demand to know!"

There was a long pause on the other end, and Serena could almost feel the weight of the silence, stretching between them like an invisible line, thick with tension. When Edwina finally spoke, her voice was like ice.

"I don’t know where he is, Edward. I’ve told you; I can’t keep track of everything."

Serena’s breath caught in her throat. The lack of remorse in Edwina’s tone was chilling. There was no real concern for the child, no genuine care in her voice. The message was clear: the child was a pawn, another piece in her intricate game of control.

Her father’s frustration seemed to reach a boiling point.

"You know where he is. If you’ve taken him, I swear to God, I’ll find him. And when I do, I’ll..."

"Keep your useless threats to yourself, Edward! You might be good in martial arts, but you cannot fight my might. Come back and I will help you look for your son! Like I said, I am willing to accept your children. Just leave your wife. I’ll even give you money to support her generously. Keep her as your mistress if you must."

"Never."

And with thay final word, Edward disconnected the call. Serena sat there, still. So, her brother had gone missing and never been found? And her grandmother had probably been behind this? Or at least her father had believed that his mother was responsible for this.

Serena frowned. Could it really be that the old woman had kidnapped her older brother to force her father’s hand? But... Serena shook her head. The woman she knew would never have done that. Edwina Dawn was manipulative, yes. Ruthless- yes. But heartless? No. She never would have resorted to kidnapping a child. But then, why did she not deny it? Why not say that she did not know the whereabouts of the child. Her father had been frantic, desperate to find his son. So why did his mother not try and help?

With a shaky breath, Serena clicked on the next file, her fingers trembling as she prepared to hear what might be next.

The static crackled again, but this time, it was different—there was an unmistakable finality in the voice that broke through the noise.

Edward’s voice was hoarse, strained with emotion, but there was a chilling coldness to it, as if something inside him had shattered completely.

"Mrs Dawn... I consider you dead to me. You should too."

There was a moment of silence on the other end, and Serena could almost feel Edwina’s shock radiating through the pause. But when she spoke again, her voice trembled with a mix of anger and disbelief.

"Edward, don’t say that. Don’t—"

But Edward cut her off with an almost eerie calmness, a deadness in his tone that made Serena’s heart pound.

"Oh, it’s true, Mrs Dawn. You killed my wife. And you took my son away from me. What else is there to say?"

The words hung heavy in the air, and Serena felt a cold shiver run down her spine. The way he said them... it was as though he had resigned himself to the fact that his life had been stolen, piece by piece, by the very person who should have been the one to protect him.

"I have nothing left. No family. No future. You’ve taken it all from me."

He paused for a moment, and Serena could feel the tension building between the two of them through the phone line, thick and suffocating. Edward’s voice returned, colder than ever.

"The only person I have left is my daughter. You want to know what you’ve done? You’ve killed your family, Edwina Dawn. I am walking away from everything you represent. I’m leaving. I’m going far away. I’m getting out from under the shadow of the woman who destroyed my life."

Edwina’s voice came back now, frantic, almost pleading.

"Edward, my son, please, don’t—"

"Don’t take my name! And don’t call me your son! I am not the son of the woman who killed my wife!"

The phone disconnected and the line went silent. And so did her office. Her grandmother had killed her mother? The person who had destroyed her family was none other than the woman who had raised her...
