Falling For My Accidental CEO Husband -
Chapter 189: Help You
Chapter 189: Help You
For a long, drawn-out moment, the woman’s hand hovered near the drawer, the air thick with tension as Serena stared at it. Nvidia seemed intent on doing everything slowly, as if drawing out the suspense. And then, without warning, she pulled it open, revealing nothing but a stack of old files. Serena exhaled, her body relaxing slightly but her gaze still sharp, watching the older woman carefully.
Nvidia chuckled softly, her fingers skimming through the papers in the drawer, as if enjoying the moment. "Relax, Miss Serena. I’m not here to harm you—at least, not in the way you’re expecting... for now at least. No doubt, my ultimate goal is to get rid of the last of Edwina’s blood line, but I think I am not in a hurry anymore. Escpecially after just now. You seem to admire Edwina. Do you... look upto her?"
Serena frowned. There was some odd note in the older woman’s voice that confused her. What did she mean by the question?
But even so, she answered," Do you mean if I wish to be like her? Then no? Do I admire her for her intelligence? Yes. She was smart. Even if she did use her smartness against you."
Nvidia gave a bitter smile then," She didn’t use her smartness against me. She used my heart. But now is not the time to get into that. We have other important matter to discuss. So, how long until your assistant outside makes the call to the police?"
Serena raised a brow at this, not showing the surprise she felt on realizing that the woman had even expected this. "Another fifteen minutes."
Nvidia gave a smile of disappointement. "Too bad then. I won’t be able to see you crumble when you read the contents of the file."
With that, she placed the file in her hand in front of Serena and leaned back.
Serena cast a look at the file and then at the woman." What is this?"
"A reality check." The woman answered.
"What do you mean?"
" I mean it is a good thing that you don’t have any hero love for your dear grandmother. But you still hold her in high regard. That is why you are intent on creating trouble for Matthew and the others. For not saving her and coming to her when she needed them. However, you’ve forgotten. Revenge is always a circle. Do you think they did not want revenge for what was done to their mother? Why should they hold hands of an old sick woman who was responsible for making their and their mother’s life miserable."
"However, she made your life easy, didn’t she? Even though you were ostracized by those around you, you still had the comfort and safety of the old woman. She was your shield, your anchor in the storm. But this file, my dear, this file will reveal a truth you never saw coming. A truth that will tear away everything you thought you knew. Go ahead. Open it. Read it. Enjoy the unraveling of your dear grandmother’s legacy."
Serena picked up the file but made no move to open it. She didn’t think she would believe a word of it, either way. Instead, she cocked her head at Nvidia, her expression still composed but tinged with curiosity. "Why this sudden urge to watch me unravel?" she asked, her voice calm, though there was an edge to it. "Why now, after all this time?"
Nvidia’s smile deepened, a flicker of something dark dancing in her eyes. "Because, my dear, I’ve waited long enough. You see, I’ve been patient, but now... now I want to see how you handle the truth. The thing is, even though Edwina is dead, I am not satisifed with the ending. She was not supposed to die like that. She was supposed to be more tortured. But she wasn’t. Even though her son died, she had you as a comfort. And she protected you with everything."
"It took me too long to get to you and everything had almost worked in my favour, I was ready to groom you to become my weapon against Edwina but then she died and then you disappeared. If you had not disappeared, I would have been satisfied with your death and the elimination of Edwina’s bloodline. But no. You had to return and then try to harm my family. Take the path that Edwina guided you onto!"
" Edwina must have thought it was a good thing that she was doing to you. But instead she put you in the middle of this. With your close resemblance to Edwina, it will be good watching you suffer in her place. Quite satisfactory. And the best way to begin this new battle in the war, is for you to see the truth of the people you are fighting for."
"Tell me, Serena, have you ever wondered how your mother died?"
Serena stilled, her hands on the file tight. She’d always known that her mother had died in an accident, when she was born. So, what could it mean?
"You think you can control me, manipulate me, and use my mother to do it?But you can’t."
Nvidia’s grin grew wider, her voice dropping into a hiss. "Oh, I think you’ll find that the truth has a way of making people crumble, Serena. Your mother’s death, your past, it all ties together. And now you get to see how your precious Edwina failed you. How she failed to protect you in the end. Because, dear, she’s the one who put you in the middle of all this. You thought she was your savior. But she wasn’t. She just dragged you into the mess she made."
"My mother died in an accident. I’ve known that my entire life. What else could there be?"
Nvidia’s eyes gleamed with satisfaction, watching the storm of confusion flicker across Serena’s face. "Ah, but you never wondered, did you? How could you? The truth has been hidden from you for so long. You think you’ve known everything, but there’s so much more. So much you’ve never been told. Enjoy."
