Falling For My Accidental CEO Husband -
Chapter 122: Hot Hot Potato
Chapter 122: Hot Hot Potato
"I’m alone again, Grandma. What should I do now? I have no friends... no family... no one..." Serena’s whispered as she felt the weight of the past pressing on her..
Before she could say another word, a voice from beside the bed interrupted, "What am I then? A potato?"
Serena jolted, whipping her head around. Her heart skipped a beat as her eyes locked onto the person there.
Instinctively, she reached to pull the blanket up, trying to cover herself, but his amused smirk stopped her. "You’re already fully covered, honey," he said, his voice dripping with amusement.
Serena glanced down, realizing she was indeed modestly wrapped in the blanket, her cheeks heating with embarrassment. She almost fell back when he suddenly moved closer, his face mere inches from hers. His voice dropped lower, more intimate. "Though... I’ve already seen everything, you know."
He gave her a slow, deliberate once-over that made her feel alive...She looked away, unable to hold his gaze any longer, the heat rising in her face.
"What are you doing here?" she managed to ask,"How did you find me?"
"My wife went missing the night we were supposed to consummate our marriage. Of course, I had to come looking for her," Aiden replied, his tone light, though his eyes darkened as he leaned even closer, his breath brushing her cheek. "I had other plans to stay awake not where I spend the night looking for you."
Serena turned her head away, the reality of everything hitting her. Only a night had passed since her world had shifted so dramatically. Just yesterday, her thoughts had been entirely different, consumed by him and a very different reality. Even thought she’d felt adrift without memories, he had been anchor and these burdensome memories had not been pressing down on her. No wonder, she had somehow found it easier to accept her lack of memories.
Her subconscious mind had probably known that she was better off without remembering these people.
"So," Aiden’s voice cut through her thoughts, "your memories have returned."
Serena’s eyes snapped back to his. "How did you know?" she asked, her voice laced with suspicion.
He leaned back slightly, studying her with that same intense gaze that he had, the first time he had seen her in the hospital. "Because your eyes have changed. They used to sparkle with mischief and ready comebacks... now they look guarded. You would have teased me back if it were your old self...So, care to introduce me to this new version of Serena?"
A bitter smile raised her lips then," This is the old Serena, actually. You knew the new one."
There was a moment of silence as they stared at each other, the air between them thick with unspoken tension. Serena, for her part, felt utterly lost. The pull to go to Aiden was strong—he had been her protector and supporter for the last few months. But deep down, she knew she couldn’t do this. She couldn’t let herself rely on him, not now. Not after everything that had changed.
On the other hand, Aiden was already assessing the new version of Serena. He had adapted to the old one, learned how to handle her. He knew that, in time, he could figure out this one too.
He shrugged, her silence and reluctance not bothering him in the least. "True. I probably knew another Serena," he said with a lightness that belied his sharp gaze. "So, let’s see if I’ve got this straight. Your memories returned last night, and you ended up here, in this hotel. Did you lose the new memories by any chance? Where you and I are married?"
Serena blinked at him, then slowly shook her head.
Aiden tilted his head, a hint of amusement creeping into his voice. "Hmm. Because just now, I’m pretty sure I heard you say you have no friends, no family... so, what does that make me? A potato?"
Serena stared, the question throwing her off. What did he mean by that? Was he... joking? He was a potato alright. A hot potato that she felt the need to get rid of. But she did not show that...
"We’re in a contract marriage, Aiden," she said, her voice tight. "Yes, there’s been attraction between us, but I can’t expect you to—"
"I can see you’re not expecting anything," Aiden interrupted, his eyes narrowing slightly. "So, what are you expecting, Serena? Do you think that we can divorce just because your memories have returned."
His question hung in the air, laced with curiosity and something else—something darker. He was trying to figure her out, understand what had happened. When he’d first learned that she’d been seen with Sidney, his mind had immediately gone to the worst. He had feared her memory had returned, and that she’d gone running back to him.
The thought had shaken him to his core. Not in the way he would have expected. It had stirred something raw inside him, something close to rage at the idea of her with another man.
That’s why he’d come, unable to stop himself.. He’d tracked her down, tracing the car to this hotel. It had taken everything in him to remain calm and convince the receptionist to let him into her room, even as he had feared the worst.
Only when he had seen her sleeping alone had the tightness in his chest eased, the sense of relief washing over him like a wave. And then he’d looked at the tears glistening on her face. And then...
Finally, Serena broke the silence with a sigh," I am Serena Dawn, the heiress of Nvidia Enterprises..."
Aiden stilled at the name. Was there anyone who had not heard of Nvidia Industries? From consumer goods to steel industries to more Nvidia Industries was involved in everything. But that single introduction had helped him gain a lot of insight into her circumstances. The chairwoman of the industry had passed away last year and there was a lot of noise about her the heir...
