FALLEN ANGEL: MARRIED TO THE DEMON KING -
Chapter 91: THE PLAN FOR WHISKEY
Chapter 91: THE PLAN FOR WHISKEY
Arella watched Velmoria leave together with her brother and the young Lady of Darvia. She had never seen her brother so entranced by another before. He loved her, of course, but that also meant that he had almost never gotten anything for himself because he was supposed to be the responsible older brother. That was not the life that she wanted for her brother.
However, he still treated her like a child. Did she seem so painfully untrustworthy, so much so that he could not tell her what it is that hurt him? So much so that he did hid the reason for coming over to the demon realm?
It hurt that she could not be a source of strength for the demon who always stood by her side.
She watched till they disappeared into the rose pathway, before turning back to Lady Seraphine and Lady Immera. The two women had dressed in light colored dresses today as well. The gowns were beautiful.
Lady Seraphine donned a pale gold gown that shimmered like sunlight on water, while Lady Immera’s soft silver dress clung to her curves. It had delicate embroidery that resembled vines that crept up from the hem to her hips.
Arella pushed her mind away from the thought of her brother and whatever had caused him to come to the demon realm. She took her seat, with the other to ladies following suit. She shifted her attention back to Lady Seraphine and Lady Immera, who both sat with their backs ramrod straight.
The tea table was set as elegantly as always, with a spread of tea, some honeyed pastries Arella had only encountered in the demon realm, and fruit laid in between it all. Lady Seraphine gently placed the folded piece of fabric from the table, smoothing it out with a gentle hand on her lap. The material of the napkin shimmered subtly under the soft light, a mix of silver and blue that seemed to shift in hue thanks to the light of the suns.
She was the epitome of the grace of a noble demon, with actions that did not match that of a nouveau riche. "Thank you both for coming today. I was worried that you would be too busy to have tea with me."
"Do not be ridiculous." Lady Immera said as she placed her own napkin onto her lap before picking up a tea pot. The tea she poured into her cup was a light shade of brown and had a sweet scent. She passed the tea over to Arella who took it from her and took a sip. It was too hot for her liking, "if the queen invites me over for anything, I will come running even if I have to break my kneecaps to get here."
Arella laughed, "I do not think we have to go that far."
"True." Lady Seraphine accepted her own cup of tea from the older demon, "You’re already old enough for the queen to have some mercy on you if you do not arrive at the palace quickly."
Lady Immera shook her head, "Tradition is one thing that is difficult to let go of," she filled her own tea cup as she spoke, "in the past, when royalty sent out a letter, you were expected to respond within ten minutes after receiving it. It was completely different from how it is now."
Lady Seraphine took a sip of her tea, "I believe we have the king to thank for that," her teacup let out a soft clink as she placed it back onto the table, "after all, he is nothing like the old king."
"That much is true. I shall raise a glass to that." Lady Immera raised her tea up to the sky.
"We are not drinking alcohol Lady Immera." Lady Seraphine’s laughter tinkled over the garden.
"The alcohol can be arranged," Arella spoke up. Her tea was still a little hot, so she waited for it to cool down a little before taking a tentative sip. The tea was warm, with a slightly sweet taste and soothed all her spots wonderfully.
"I simply jest your majesty." Lady Immera gave her a smile, "There is time for tea." This was obviously a tradition that Arella did not know of.
"There is always time for alcohol." Lady Seraphine took an aggressive bite of her cookie. Lady Seraphine grinned at Arella’s comment, her eyes twinkling with mischief. "I think I quite like you, Your Highness. You have the soul of a demon."
Arella shrugged, "What can I say really. Good alcohol is like a balm to the soul."
The two of them glanced at Lady Immera, who rolled her eyes, "I guess I cannot deny that."
"Oh yes, I can make some alcohol infused tea for the two of you next time," Arella’s eyes shimmered as she said that. Staying in the human realm for as long as she had had taught her a lot of neat tricks, many of which she never got the chance to use because an angel was supposed to be the epitome of purity.
Which she clearly wasn’t if her thoughts on the demon king were anything to say about it.
"That sounds lovely, your majesty," Lady Immera gave her a small smile.
Lady Seraphine arched a brow, her lips quirking into a smirk, "I must say though, it would be quite interesting to see an angel prepare tea infused with alcohol. I do not think I ever thought I would witness in my lifetime."
"Neither did I, seems like our queen is interested in surprising us." Lady Immera let out a gentle laugh, matching her demeanour.
Arella laughed, setting down her cup, "Then perhaps it is time for me to surprise you both." She picked up a pastry as she thought over her next words carefully, "The human realm has some fascinating concoctions, although I doubt they compare to the alcohol in the demon realm."
Lady Immera leaned forward slightly, resting her chin on her hand, "I take it you have tried alcohol made in the demon realm before, your highness?"
Arella took a bite of her pastry and swallowed before answering, "I have had the wine, I quite like how fruity it is."
"You mean you have not tried the whiskey?" Lady Seraphine interjected.
"I mean, I already find the wine to be incredibly strong, I can imagine how much stronger the whiskey will be."
Lady Immera and Lady Seraphine shared looks, before a mischievous grin lifted Lady Seraphine’s lips up, "Well now we have to get you to try it."
"I can bring my hip flask with me next time," Lady Immera added quickly.
Arella hesitated for a moment before offering a sly smile, "I mean, seeing as you are telling me quite nicely, I do not see why I should not try the whiskey at least once."
"Then it is a date!" Lady Seraphine agreed quickly. "We can share a drink after the coronation. It would be a perfect way to celebrate your official becoming of demon queen. Do you not agree?"
"Of course, I will send an official invitation to your homes. Perhaps after that we can have another tea party."
Arella knew this was a power play for Lady Seraphine and Lady Immera. There was no way that they were fine with being friends with her so quickly. From what Velmoria had told her, this was all but a power play for them. Being close with the demon queen would reap immense benefits for any family.
In exchange for putting the other nobles who were against them in check, she would put in a good word for them to the king. It was a win win situation.
Also, being invited to the palace so often was an honor that many demons wished to have, and it was not very often that the king hosted parties. Therefore, their only source of reprieve was the gullible queen who was an angel.
Arella’s smile did not drop.
Yeah, even though she was just an angel, she would use everything she could in the demon realm to ensure her safety.
This was why she had invited the young Lady of Darvia after all. Even though she had yet to be married off to another demon family, her family was already very strong in itself. Their armies were strong enough to stand against the demon king if they wished. She had to ensure that did not happen.
She was the demon queen after all.
