FALLEN ANGEL: MARRIED TO THE DEMON KING
Chapter 77: THE ANGEL OF WATER

Chapter 77: THE ANGEL OF WATER

Echo, who had been laying at their feet the entire time got up, and stretched his limbs before stalking to one of the large windows and plopped his body down to soak the light.

"He is oddly silent today." King Varziel pointed out.

"It’s Echo, he’s always silent." She pressed her fingers to the sides of his face and turned his face back to look at hers, "stop trying to change the topic. The fact that you always seem to be thinking of me makes me very... Happy Varziel."

His eyes widened at her words and an unsure look filled his eyes. "Do you really mean so? Or are you simply saying that to make me feel better?"

Arella’s lips pulled up in a smirk, "what makes you think I would say something I do not mean?" She pulled his face closer and gave him a kiss on the lips.

King Varziel, who had been startled by her sudden boldness, stiffened for a moment, before melting into the kiss. His hand instinctively wrapped around her waist and the other to her hair, pulling her closer as he deepened the embrace. The warmth of his lips against hers sent a shiver down her spine. She allowed herself to surrender to the kiss, feeling intoxicated by the familiar feeling of affection.

Just as the moment threatened to consume them entirely, the air in the room crackled with holy energy. Arella looked to the door of the hall, breaking the kiss in the process. Why was there holy power in the demon realm that did not belong to her?

Her hands were still pressed into King Varziel’s chest, and her hair had become fussed thanks to his ministrations. He also turned to look at the door, unwilling to let his wife go but ready to attack if the owner of the holy power was hostile.

A golden portal burst open where the door was, and holy power poured into the room, even stronger now. The portal poured out holy power so bright that for a moment Arella felt the need to shield her eyes. As if reading her mind, Varziel raised his hand, and covered her eyes. The hum of angelic power became familiar, and she immediately recognized it.

As if summoned by her thoughts alone, a figure stepped through the golden portal. The radiance of his aura dimmed slightly after he had walked through it, revealing a tall imposing figure with features that were framed by golden hair. His piercing blue eyes immediately found Arella and a large smile lifted at his lips. His large wings had been tightly pressed behind his back, and his hands were carrying a large leather bag.

"There is my now perverted sister." he gave her a large smile.

"Cassie." Arella’s voice was a whisper, as she took in her older brother’s figure. What was her brother doing in the demon realm??

Castiel’s smile seemed to widen after hearing the pet name. "I bet you didn’t expect me to come see you?" He took two steps forward and the portal begun to close. Just before it fully closed, Arella was sure she saw another figure in the light. The figure did not step out though.

"Will the two of you not let go of each other so that I can give my sister a hug?" Castiel raised a brow, and it was then that Arella realized that she was still holding onto King Varziel, and he was also holding onto her. Quite tightly might she add.

He tightned his grip on her, as if he he did not want to let her go. Arella patted his arm. "If you continue to hold on so tightly to me I may suffocate." She laughed gently as she pried his arms away, "I am not going anywhere." It was more along the lines of she was too embarrassed to let her brother see her so intimate with a male. Talking about it was much different than actually being caught in the act.

He finally let go of her. Very reluctantly might she add.

After she was out of his grasp, she ran up to her brother and gave him a hug. His familiar scent enveloped her, and she felt very comfortable just basking in her brother’s arms for a second, before the realization that her brother was in the demon realm actually sunk in. "Cassie. What are you doing here?" She pulled away from him, only to bump into King Varziel who had been stalking behind her the entire time.

The two males sized each other up, this being the first time they were in actual close proximity. During their wedding, which would have been the time they would have met, the newly wedded couple had immediately gone into the demon realm, not allowing Arella to give her family one last hug goodbye.

After sizing each other up, the king stretched out his hand, "Castiel of the angels of water." He addressed him politely.

"Demon King Varziel." Castiel took the outstretched hand and shook it. "It is a pleasure to finally officially meet with you."

"Have we never really met?" Castiel pressed his eyes together, peering at King Varziel through slightly squinted eyes.

"Castiel," Arella smiled, sensing some tension between the two men. "Stop measuring the demon king to see if you can win in a fight."

"I just thought that he and I had definitely met in battle before." Castiel took his hand back, a frown etched on his features, "he looks very familiar." Then his features morphed back into a smile. "You wound me Ella. I thought I was your favourite." His expression dropped and he looked genuinely wounded.

"Stop messing around." Arella rolled her eyes, "why have you come?"

Echo, as if sensing the tension in the room, stalked from his sunlit position and moved up to Arella, sitting on his hind legs next to Arella. Arella, as if sensing his presence although he had moved silently, sunk her hands into the top of his head.

The teasing look in Castiel’s eyes finally dropped and he turned his gaze to her, "I needed to get away from the angel realm."

His expression did not falter, but the grip that he had on the leather bag he carried visibly tightened. Arella immediately noticed the action. Her brother was many things—proud, calm, annoyingly overprotective— but there was one thing he never was, that was nervous. Yet here he was, twiddling his fingers together over the strap that he clenched so tightly that Arella was beginning to think that it might be the only thing that tethered him to the ground.

"The great Castiel son of Camael needed a break?" Arella raised a brow in an expression that was very similar to her brother’s. "I do not believe it."

"Why would you not believe your dear older brother. Even an amazing angel such as myself needs a break sometimes."

It was obvious that the vanity Arella had ran in the family.

Arella glared at him, taking his figure in for a few moments without speaking a word. King Varziel did not comment, did not utter a word. His only action was placing his hand on Arella’s waist, as if still afraid that the angel who had come to his palace came to steal his wife away.

Or perhaps it was an act that was meant to comfort her.

"You need somewhere to stay for a while? Away from mother and father?" Arella said finally, after staying silent for a few seconds.

Castiel gave her a wide smile, but this time, it did not quite reach his eyes. "I can never hide anything from you."

"You say that as if I can ever hide anything from you." Arella rolled her eyes, then turned to King Varziel. "Can he stay here for a little while?"

"I do not care what he does, as long as he does not try to take you away from me."

Arella’s heart fluttered at his words, and she felt like taking it out of her chest and punching some sense into it. This was not the time to be reacting to her sickly sweet husband.

"You can stay here for as long as you need Cassie." Arella said, turning to Castiel. "You can tell me what bothers you when you are ready to speak."

Castiel’s smile this time was relieved, after which his smile dropped back to the reserved one that Arella had gotten used to over the years. "I think I just need to breathe for a little while before I am ready to speak."

Arella patted his hand, "take all the time you need."
