FALLEN ANGEL: MARRIED TO THE DEMON KING -
Chapter 66: THE BOND (2)
Chapter 66: THE BOND (2)
King Varziel softly chuckled, his fingers tracing soft patterns over Arella’s skin. His touch made her shiver slightly every time. "You will absolutely be alive, my queen. It is not as... savage as I think you might be imagining." As if to prove his point, he took a light nip of her shoulder. "The bite will not drain any blood to any dangerous extent, just enough for our energies to merge together. It will also be a mark of permanence. I will not get another partner for as long as I live. I am not sure if the same will apply to you, seeing as you are an angel."
Arella tilted her head, processing his words, "Symbolic? How does that work exactly?"
"It forms a bond; in our case, your holy power and my demonic energy will merge, and in turn our bond will be deepened. Those who have the ability to see auras or sense bonds may very well be able to see the bond better though."
Arella shut her eyes tightly, as an uncertain feeling washed over her. Did she really want to be bonded to this demon for the rest of her life?
Marriage was different. She could kill him and run away from him if she ever got tired of him or if he ever showed that he was different than what he was showing her at that moment. It would very well cause her to get forever attached to a demon who may be using her for something she did not know yet.
Just the thought of it made her want to bash his head in, although he had not even done anything wrong.
"Will it hurt?" She asked finally. "At the very least, I would not want it to hurt."
"Ah, I do not know the specifics, but I heard that the pain is brief before it gives way to some sort of euphoria." Arella could not see his face, but she could tell that he was blushing. That made her want to tease him even more.
"So you have experience with this?"
He stiffened visibly before shaking his head. "Like I already told you, you are my only mate, my queen. No other living being will ever get in the way of that."
Her chest tightened at the sincerity in his tone. "So you mean that if we do this, mark each other; it is forever; we will be bound together forever."
He raised his head and searched for her eyes in the dim light. "Yes. Forever."
Silence stretched between them as Arella considered his words. Her fingers toyed with the fabric of his tunic, and her mind raced with thoughts. Forever felt like such an immense and daunting concept. Angels lived for millennia, and if he died before her, would she still be able to survive without his presence?
Still, she could not deny the strange pull she had felt towards him the entirety of her stay with him, the one week she had stayed with him.
"Alright," Arella finally whispered, "I am willing to think about it seriously and consider it."
"Are you really?" He moved, causing him to involuntarily thrust into her. She shuddered as he hit a spot inside her.
"I am starting to think you are doing this on purpose," she managed to pull on his ear.
"I got a little excited, sorry. You have no idea what this means to me," his expression softened, and he sunk his face into her neck once more.
"You are right, I do not fully understand." She murmured, "Of course, I do think I need more time to think it through. It may take me years to accept it, but we are at a beginning; do you not think so?"
"Yes." He bobbed his head up and down.
She swallowed hard, then finally asked the question that tugged at her mind, "What happens if one of us dies?" Her voice was barely above a whisper, and after she had asked it, she immediately regretted it. Was it really the time to ask him such a question, when he was balls deep in her and she was spread on his study table?
Still, she needed an answer. "What happens to the bond when one of us dies?"
King Varziel hesitated before finally answering her. His voice, just like hers, was very low: "On my part, the bond would remain, and I would feel as if there is a gaping wound in my soul. It would not kill me, but I would very much rather be dead with you if it were to happen."
"So we do not know what would happen to me?"
"No, but seeing as the bond has some effect on you, I think my death would affect you in some manner as well."
"I see." Arella muttered. "Why do demons feel the need to take such a risk?" She pondered out loud, "Would you really want to stake your life on another being’s life?"
King Varziel continued to trace those idle patterns over her skin: "I think I can understand why, seeing as I myself am a demon. For me, I would rather have the fear of losing you than never have you at all, my queen."
His honesty left her breathless. There was no sugarcoating, no promises that everything would be perfect. He gave her the raw, unfiltered truth.
"But I do not want to lie," he continued, his voice dropping even lower. "In our case, if I were to lose you, I would not want to live in a world where you do not exist. You are the very reason why I breathe." He gripped tightly onto her, as if afraid that she would somehow disappear.
The sincerity in his words struck her like a blow, leaving her momentarily speechless. Her fingers stilled against his tunic, and she could feel her pulse thundering against her ears. How on earth could someone who she knew as the pure embodiment of darkness and chaos speak with such vulnerability?
