FALLEN ANGEL: MARRIED TO THE DEMON KING -
Chapter 51: THE ROYAL PERFORMERS (1)
Chapter 51: THE ROYAL PERFORMERS (1)
Everything else after that was a blur.
Velmoria and the other maids had dressed Arella in flowing layers of very dark red silk. Just like all the other clothes that were provided, there was no corset and the material of the clothing clung to her skin, showing all her curves. The neckline this time was lower than the velvet dress she had worn during the day, with the V showing just a little cleavage.
Not used to wearing such clothing, Arella felt just a tad conscious about the deep set cleavage. Her doubts were quelled when she remembered the cleavage on the demons she had seen on her wedding day.
"This is somewhat your first official duty as queen. I think it proper that you do not wear clothing that looks so much like that of an angel." Velmoria explained as they dressed her, having noticed the look Arella had on her face after seeing the dress.
"I met with the designers," Arella proposed that tidbit.
"This is more important than the designers. The royal performers travel on official duty withthe king and queen to provide entertainment. Sometimes, a royal liked the work of the royal performers, which helped unite the demons way back before the current demon king came into power. It is now a little bit more different than it was back then, but the demons still consider it a very important job."
"I see," Arella did not make more of a fuss on the clothing after that.
Even after she discovered two thigh high slits that ran on both sides of the dress.
Velmoria led her to the hall where the performers were going to try their luck for the spot. In the room, at the farthest corner, sat two large thrones and a wide spread of food on a table in front of it. King Varziel was already seated in the room, an unfamiliar demon floating by his side and holding a set of thick papers.
The demon was short, but floated in the air on small leather wings that stuck out from his back. The demon’s hair was a deep crimson read color, his skin a tanned shade of brown.
The moment Arella walked into the room, King Varziel looked up from the papers he was working on. "My Queen." A large dimpled smile settled onto his lips once he saw Arella.
Arella felt her heart beat after seeing him smile. The betrayer.
Still, she managed to give him a curtsy before taking a seat next to him. "What is all this?"
"Dinner and a show. A perfect date, would you not agree." Varziel gave her that illegal smile once more as he handed the papers to the floating demon. "This is Shazirath, he assists with most of the paperwork and handles palace affairs whenever I am indisposed."
The floating demon turned his pale gray eyes to Arella and gave her a bow, which did not seem the slightest bit odd despite the fact that the demon was floating in the air. "A pleasure to meet you, Queen Arella."
"Charmed." Arella gave him a smile of her own before turning to King Varziel, "and how do you know matters pertaining to the human realm your majesty." One of the maids walked up and filled Arella’s goblet with wine.
"I learned a variety of things when I was younger." King Varziel accepted a goblet of his own as Shazirath bowed and left the large hall. "All to please my wife of course." The demon king raised his goblet, clinking it against hers.
Arella pressed her wings tightly against her bare back to ground herself. It almost felt as if he was speaking to her directly, as ludicrous as that sounded even to Arella. Even though she did not look at him, she could feel the warmth of his gaze lingering on her longer than she was comfortable with.
"I see." She finally said. To distract herself, she took a sip of the wine, the rich, spiced flavor unfamiliar but pleasant. "I doubt those lessons included entertaining your wife with work masked as auditions."
King Varziel laughed, but did not answer her. "Shall we begin to eat. The performers shall enter shortly."
Arella took him on his offer and had a servant pass her some of the meat she had liked on her wedding day and some other dish she was sure was mashed potatoes.
King Varziel’s plate was piled higher than her own, and he gave her a smile after seeing her attention on him, "I am absolutely starved." His smile was wicked which made Arella realize he was not talking about the food.
The doors to the hall opened, which thankfully snapped her out of her lust filled thoughts. The first group of performers consisted of five members. They were all female and twirled around the room with ribbons wrapped around their wrists and ankles. They truly were good at what they did, but they did not stand out to Arella.
They were ushered out of the room after their performance and a second group walked in. This time it was a group of all male demons. They performed difficult acrobatics that consisted of them throwing each other up in the air and doing splits that should have been difficult for males of any species.
The third group were singers who performed two hauntingly beautiful songs that filled the hall. Their voices seemed to enchant Arella, and their voices made her feel like she had been pulled onto an island in the sea.
The fourth were a group of flame dancers, who also had ribbons -- red this time-- tied around their wrists and ankles. Their performance consisted of conjuring mesmerizing shapes with their fire and jumping through hoops made from flames.
Arella had attended a circus in the human realm a couple of times, and this felt exactly like that.
The final group of performers came into the room last. By this time, Arella was getting bored. She had finished her food, and was on her second goblet of wine.
This time, the group was a mix of both genders. One was a demon with wings who entered the hall while doing backflips. Her hair was dark, as was her skin. The next one skipped a rope as she walked, jumping up and down on her large tail. She had emerald scales that ran down her cheeks and she came to a stop next to the first demon. The last demon was a male who wore the same flowing mesh material as the first two.
He was tall, much taller than his fellow performers, and dark horns spiraled out of the top of his head. He carried a heavy stringed instrument that Arella did not know the name of in his hands.
The dark skinned demon cartwheeled to the instrument after it had been placed down, cracked her fingers, and begun to play a beautiful song that changed the atmosphere of the whole hall. Then, she moved her hands from the instrument, leaving it to continue playing on its own. Arella was in awe, watching as a shadow was left in the place of the demon after she moved.
