FALLEN ANGEL: MARRIED TO THE DEMON KING -
Chapter 45: THE DISCUSSION OF A KING AND QUEEN (2) (VARZIEL’S POV)
Chapter 45: THE DISCUSSION OF A KING AND QUEEN (2) (VARZIEL’S POV)
The room went silent for just a few seconds as the tension in the room grew. After a few seconds, Arella finally spoke up, "I also think we need to discuss the terms of our marriage." She crossed her legs over each other, which caused Echo’s head to become displaced. The creature raised its head and squinted its glowing green eyes. Finally, it rested its head on her knee.
"What do you mean?" Varziel found his eyes pulled to Arella’s thighs, staring at the fabric of her velvet green dress that matched the color of her eyes. He swallowed deeply.
"I mean, I did not want this marriage, but I went through with it for the sake of our realms."
Her words stung. He already knew that she wanted nothing to do with him in the first place. However, he had her in his grasp now, and he would have to be dead before he allowed them to be separated.
"I am aware of that. I will treat you with the respect that you require as my queen."
Arella cocked a brow, "You are nothing like what I was expecting, King Varziel." Her words caused a slight flutter to his heart. Did she already know the feelings he harboured towards her? Would she accept them? What would he do if she denied him?
His jaw ticked as he leaned forward, his crimson eyes narrowing slightly. "And what exactly were you expecting, my Queen?" His voice was low and smooth.
"A tyrant, just as any person in power would be." She gripped lightly on Echo’s fur, and he shook her hand off. "I expected a ruler so high in power such as yourself to be so drunk in it they wouldn’t be able to tell his left hand from his right."
"What would you have done if I was?" She was not looking at him. Varziel wanted her to look at him as they spoke.
Arella looked up at him with those green eyes, "I suppose, I would have killed you and ran away. I quite like my freedom, you see."
Varziel felt proud. With her character being as it was, he, at the very least, was sure she would not be bullied by other people. "If your freedom is what you seek," he clenched his fists. "I would give it to you."
Arella’s eyes widened slightly before a warm smile lifted her lips up. This smile was not like the others that she had been giving him. It was nothing like her cheeky smile when she had a devious plan in her mind. "How would you do that? We are already married; I am accountable for any decisions I make moving forward." Her smile widened. "And anyway, I have quite grown quite fond of your dimples."
A light flush climbed up Varziel’s ears. He sincerely hoped she did not notice. He would try to smile more if it kept her around him longer.
The way he spoke to him was disarming. After getting his title as king, few were so bold in his presence. So many years, and Arella had not changed in the slightest. "Does my apparent lack of tyranny disappoint you?" His sarcastic tone did not go unnoticed.
"Oh, not at all." Arella tapped a finger on the armrest, "If anything, it makes me want to know you even more." She squinted her eyes, studying him. Varziel felt as if he was under scrutiny with no place to hide, "What is it that drives you, King Varziel? Why do you work so hard? Why did you ask to marry me? What place do I have in your plans to achieve what you want?"
’I have already achieved what I want,’ Varziel wanted to say, but he was not sure how she would take it. "I already told you, my queen, you have to work harder than that to uncover my secrets."
"Trust me, I will," She rested back in her chair, leaving her words lingering in the air. Her eyes sparkled with mischief, and she stared right at him, as if she wanted to be the one to make him fall apart .
Echo was displaced once more, and as if irritated, he rose to his full height. He stretched out his six legs and let out a big yawn. The creature’s dark fur shimmered faintly in the light, and his intelligent-looking eyes seemed to regard them for a few seconds. Then, as if they were not worth his time, he turned away from them with a flick of his tail and walked out of the room. The door shut with a click behind him.
Arella’s gaze lingered on the door for a few seconds after Echo had left. "Figures. Echo to be disturbed. He especially hates it when he is resting his head on my lap and I move around." She chuckled.
"Clearly he is the one in charge," Varziel remarked, a faint smile on his lips. "Perhaps I should be negotiating the terms of this marriage with him instead."
Arella laughed, "Oh, believe me, you would get nowhere talking with Echo. I mean, looking at me, you would obviously know that his standards are high."
"So you mean to say I am not good-looking enough to even be considered a candidate?" Varziel placed a hand on his chest, feigning offence. He stood and flexed his muscles. "I think I am quite the catch too. My figure cannot be that bad, can it?"
"Don’t take it personally." Arella cackled, "He finds most people lacking. Except for me, of course." There was a smug smile etched on her lips.
"Of course," Varziel echoed, his tone dry but his eyes shining with mirth, "How could anyone compare to the great Queen Confidence?" He turned to her, giving her a mock bow.
Arella tilted her head up to look at him. "Flattery will get you nowhere, mister demon king." Arella gave him that smile once more, causing his heart to feel like it was leaping out of his chest. He leaned over her in the chair and ran a hand down her cheek.
"Really?"
Her breath hitched visibly, a flush climbing up her cheeks. "I mean, perhaps it can take you somewhere." She chuckled and gripped onto the lapel of his robe. Looking up at him with those beautiful green eyes, she muttered, "What are you doing to me?"
"The question should be, what did you do to me?" Varziel leaned down even more, their lips just a breadth apart. He was giving her the chance to pull away before he lost it and slammed her onto the meeting table.
Her grip on his clothes tightened as she pulled him down further for a kiss. Her lips were soft and warm, and Varziel finally realized how he had desperately wanted this to happen. Varziel felt as if his mind had exploded. No. The whole world had exploded and even them could not get enough of her.
Never.
He deepened the kiss, one hand sliding to the back of her neck and the other resting on the armrest of the chair to steady himself. She responded with equal fervor, her other hand sinking into the fabric of his robe and pulling him to her, as if afraid he might pull away.
Arella broke the kiss first, her breath coming in shallow bursts as she looked up at him, her cheeks flushed. "This is not what I wanted. We need to discuss..."
Varziel grabbed her face. "Later." He pulled her in for another kiss, his lips moving over hers. She threw her arms around his neck, pulling him down even further. He lowered his hand and pulled her upper body up, wanting to feel her body against his. He wanted to touch her everywhere, to taste her everywhere.
