FALLEN ANGEL: MARRIED TO THE DEMON KING
Chapter 124: THE DEMON KING AND THE DEMON QUEEN

Chapter 124: THE DEMON KING AND THE DEMON QUEEN

Their words were but a mere whisper into the space between their lips.

Varziel slid his hand from her wrist to her jaw, brushing his thumb gently along the curve of her cheek. His touch was gentle, almost reverent, as though he feared that she would disappear if he held her too tightly. His heart raced wildly in his chest, louder and faster than it ever had in any battle.

Varziel had known pain, rage, ecstasy. But *this*... this was a new feeling entirely.

His breath caught in his throat once more as his eyes met Arella’s golden ones. They were tinged with a deeper light, and locked onto his, it felt as if he was staring into galaxies.

He could feel the bond pulling tautly between them, just but a thread of energy that pulsed with need. Need so strong that it felt like it was pouring out of him in waves. The hum of her halo grew stronger—louder—no longer a soft violin, but sounding more like a symphony.

The holy power that poured out of her was thick, and it curled around him. It was deliciously warm. He was sure his own power curled around her just the same. Their powers were drawn to each other like moths to a flame.

This was more than the affection he had been feeling for her.

It wasn’t just desire.

It wasn’t just lust.

It wasn’t just coincidence.

It was the decisions that they had made in their lifetime that brought them to this point. It was fate, but he would be wrong to say it was just that.

"I love you." He whispered. He had thought it a million times before, from the moment she left him first to go back to the angel realm. He had thought about it all those days he had spent alone, all those times he needed something to push him forward. He had even mentioned it in passing once when she had asked him questions about the mate bond—though she hadn’t taken him very seriously.

The gold in her irises glowed just a shade brighter upon hearing his words.

He had said it with the full weight of his soul behind it. "And I am yours. I will always be yours," he continued, with the hope that his feelings would really reach her, that one day she would not see their union as the means to an end.

Arella did not give him an answer—just as he knew she wouldn’t. Instead, she sunk her fingers to the wisps of hair that were at the back of his neck, and pressed her lips against his.

Varziel was surprised by her sudden action, but did not dare push her away. He let her lead the kiss, and she did—taking it slow, kissing him deep. It almost felt like she was trying to hold back a storm of emotions.

The instant they touched, the world seemed to fall away.

Their kiss was the final catalyst.

A rush of power surged through the both of them, roaring through their veins as, finally, the last dregs of the bond snapped into place with a shockwave of power. It spread outward and upward in a ripple of divine energy and abyssal fire, scorching the air and shaking the ground beneath them.

Arella gasped into his lips as her back arched, and her wings flared outward and her halo spun faster and faster, becoming just but a ring of blinding brilliance. Her wings ignited in flames, licking at the edges of her pure white feathers, but not burning—not harming.

Varziel’s wings unfurled with a powerful gust of wind, sending ash and embers whirling into the air, before wrapping around them, hiding them both from view. His body glowed with the energy of the bond that had just fully snapped into place.

Lines of golden-red light streaked across his bare chest and shoulders, reminiscent of living tattoos. His skin glistened slightly as the scales he worked hard to hide peeked through the glamour he wore.

His fangs had lengthened slightly, and they ached and burned with the need to sink them down her neck once more. At that moment, nothing about him looked mortal—nothing about him looked kind. He looked every inch the monster the humans knew the demon king to be.

Yet, when he held his angel, it was with the care of someone touching the most precious thing in existence.

Arella clung to him as wave after wave of power cascaded over them both, her fingers curling deeper into his hair. Both their entire beings vibrated with energy, divine and infernal energy colliding and harmonizing together like the most perfect melody.

It was overwhelming and yet, it felt right.

They parted only when their lungs cried out for breath, and even then, their foreheads stayed pressed together.

Arella took in deep breaths, fluttering her eyes open.

She didn’t speak. She couldn’t not yet—and neither could he. The moment lingered on their skin.

The burst of power had caused all the attention to turn to them. The battlefield had come to a halt as they all looked at the demon king and queen. The demons knew what that light meant. Of course, no one had ever seen a light so bright during bonding. It was usually just enough to fill a small room.

However, the burst of light that had erupted from Varziel and Arella had been like a second sun ripping from the ground and up through the clouds. It had pierced the heavens, seared the sky, and sent a shockwave so powerful that the lands had trembled beneath its weight, and melting every intruder in its wake.

Even now, the aftershocks of the bond’s completion reverberated across the field like distant thunder.

Cracks in the earth shimmered with residual magic-veins of gold and crimson fire that pulsed in time with the heartbeats of the demon king and queen. The air itself pulsed, thrumming with their unity.

The demon soldiers had dropped to one knee, their heads bowed in instinctual reverence. They were honored to witness the birth of a true demon king, together with a union between realms. Their king had officially marked the queen, which meant that angel or not, she was now a true royal.

"Thrazhul el nuumrak Zhaalvek" some began to chant.

"Vrozh’takar el nuumrak Zhaalvek," more of them continued to chant.

"Thrazhul el nuumrak Zhaalvenya." the chants had grown much louder by this point.

"Vrozh’takar el nuumrak Zhaalvenya!"

Even the intruders who had not been caught in the initial blast-those who had been clever enough, or fast enough, to shield themselves- now stood frozen. Their weapons were not lowered, but their eyes were wide, similarly awed with the brilliance that was before them.

The Demon King and Demon Queen stood, as the chants rolled across the battlefield, like a gathering storm, rising in volume and intensity, until they drowned out even the crackling energy that still lingered in the air.

Varziel wrapped his arm around Arella’s waist, irritated that the moment they had been having had been disrupted, but glad that he had not involuntarily put on a show for his subjects. He tightened his grip on Arella’s waist, steadying her against the overwhelming swell of reverence and power.

She stood firmly, obviously not needing his assistance, but letting him hold her regardless. Her wings folded back slightly, the holy flames dimming to a soft radiant glow, allowing his touch. Her halo continued to spin, casting shimmering light that danced like a beacon over the land.

Her head tilted back as she looked up at the sky, looking at the vortex that still swirled in the sky. More of the intruders had already begun to pour from the swirling dark mass.

They were like ants pouring from a cracked hive.

Arella’s eye twitched. They needed to end this, and fast.

"We have to close that vortex, then double back for a discussion on what we must do to prepare for the time such a thing happens once more."

Varziel did not answer-did not need to answer. He only nodded, his eyes already burning with focus as they turned to the sky. The connection between them thrummed like a living thing—alive and intelligent, urging them forward.

Varziel: A what?

Reporters: A-a vampire your highness.

Varziel: (Turns to his wife and points to the reporters with his thumb with an eyebrow raised.) Really?
