Extreme Pampering
Chapter 97: Be more tolerant with me.

Chapter 97: Chapter 97: Be more tolerant with me.

The next day when Shen Zhiyi woke up to the sounds around her, Pei Yu had already left, and there was a breakfast prepared on the dining table along with a sticky note.

[Going on a business trip, will be back after two days.]

He used the word "back," as if he intended to move in again when he returned.

Shen Zhiyi felt conflicted, berating herself for not being firm enough in her refusal last night, while also unable to stop wondering what he was doing at that moment.

He had slept so late, and it was on the sofa to boot, and he had work early today, she wondered if it would affect his health.

As she was lost in thought, the sound of the door opening came from the entrance hall, and Wang Feifei walked over with a bag of items, glancing at the prepared breakfast on the dining table.

"Hey, you ordered delivery? I was thinking of cooking something for you."

Shen Zhiyi quickly pocketed the sticky note and replied vaguely, "I got up a bit early today."

Wang Feifei was there to check on her because she had some free time and wanted to see how her injuries were. Seeing that Shen Zhiyi was alright, she felt relieved and sat down to have breakfast with her. "This breakfast tastes pretty good. Which restaurant did you order from?"

Shen Zhiyi hesitated, "Um... just a random place I found."

She quickly changed the subject, "You’re so busy, you shouldn’t have come to see me."

"No matter how busy I am, I won’t be at ease unless I see for myself," Wang Feifei said after taking a sip of porridge, seeming casual as she mentioned, "I heard from Xiaodong that Chairman Pei came to see you after he heard you were injured?"

Shen Zhiyi lowered her head and responded softly, "Mhm."

Compared to Xiaodong, Wang Feifei knew more about her and Pei Yu’s situation and thought deeply about it. Back when they were together, she never interfered in anything, but now that they had split, she worried more.

"I thought your breakup was by mutual consent," Wang Feifei carefully started, seeing as one month wasn’t that long or short. It was reasonable assuming he had grown bored; thus, Shen Zhiyi hadn’t thought much about their breakup herself, such cases being too common in her social circle.

But it didn’t seem like it was what she had thought, at least from Pei Yu’s current hot-and-cold attitude. It vaguely looked like he still harbored some feelings for Shen Zhiyi?

She wasn’t sure if ’harbored feelings’ was the proper term, as she couldn’t grasp the current situation.

Wang Feifei probed, "Are you two planning to continue being together?"

Such a scenario was indeed rare.

"No," Shen Zhiyi hesitated before denying; her wavering heart sank, and rationality regained control. She gave Wang Feifei a definite answer, "I don’t want to think about these things."

Wang Feifei nodded in agreement; times had changed, and now completely free from her entanglement with Huo Heng and working in Director Meng’s team on a movie, Shen Zhiyi’s status was bound to rise once the film was released. There was simply no need to take shortcuts, especially not with someone like Pei Yu.

"Thinking this way is correct," Wang Feifei still felt fairly reassured about Shen Zhiyi, but according to Xiaodong, it seemed like Pei Yu was the proactive one. This made things a bit complicated, as he was no easy person to deal with. After some thought, an idea came to Wang Feifei, "What about revisiting the idea of staging a relationship that I mentioned before?"

The subject changed so abruptly that Shen Zhiyi was momentarily stunned, "I don’t want to—"

"I know you don’t want to," Wang Feifei spread her hands, "isn’t he the one showing signs of wanting to rekindle things? If you don’t want to get entangled with him again, isn’t it good to have a fake boyfriend as a shield?"

Shen Zhiyi: "...I’d rather not."

She really couldn’t accept such purely opportunistic pretense; acting out a façade with Huo Heng in the past had been tormenting enough.

With her suggestion rejected again, Wang Feifei could only sigh, "Alright, let’s just focus on our careers. But be careful not to anger him. You’re climbing up the ladder right now. Don’t mess up this great opportunity."

"Just handle it perfunctorily," Wang Feifei cautioned repeatedly, "Just make sure to keep things in balance."

What was originally a personal matter, once spoken by Wang Feifei, linked back to power and benefits, leaving Shen Zhiyi silent and out of sorts.

Of course, she believed that Pei Yu wouldn’t pressure her with his power and influence, but her trust was actually worthless.

"By the way," Wang Feifei recalled something, "CN’s Mr. Meng asked for your address, saying he wanted to visit and see how you were doing. Did you know?"

"Hmm?" Shen Zhiyi had received a greeting message from Meng Qiming, but she hadn’t checked her phone from last night until now, and only then did she see that he had also asked for her home address.

"Could you decline for me?"

Meng Qiming wasn’t hiding his intentions, and to avoid giving him the wrong impression, it was naturally necessary to reject him decisively.

"Okay, I’ll make an excuse for you later."

Wang Feifei tried to resist, but she couldn’t help it, "Actually, Meng Qiming is really quite decent—"

Noticing Shen Zhiyi’s helpless look, she quickly added, "I know you don’t want to think about these things now. I’m just giving you a heads-up, so you are aware of it."

As she was rambling on, Shen Zhiyi’s phone rang; it was from Pei Yu.

The two exchanged glances, and it was Wang Feifei who finally said hesitantly, "You should answer it."

This person was unaccustomed to being snubbed. It really took courage not to answer his calls, and coincidentally, Wang Feifei had very little of it in this regard.

Shen Zhiyi picked up the phone.

"Have you had breakfast?"

As the chef served breakfast, Pei Yu looked at the purely blue sky outside the plane window and asked softly.

"Yes."

With Wang Feifei watching, Shen Zhiyi felt uncomfortable, but hiding to take the call seemed even more suggestive.

Her responses were brief, making her appear cold, but Pei Yu didn’t mind, "Last night’s words weren’t a joke, nor were they spoken in a dream. Do you remember them?"

Absent-mindedly fiddling with a corner of the tablecloth dangling down, Shen Zhiyi responded vaguely with a "Hmm?"

Pei Yu patiently repeated his words from last night, "I said, I want to start over, starting with pursuing you."

The word "pursue" was enunciated clearly, hinting at his sincerity from the tone of his voice, which differed from last night. At that moment, with Wang Feifei curiously staring at the phone, Shen Zhiyi awkwardly avoided her gaze, unsure of how to respond, and could only say, "I remember."

She even remembered the tone of his voice when he said those words and the timing between each word.

"Good to remember," Pei Yu didn’t hope for a different answer from last night. He brought it up again to mark a clear beginning for them starting from today.

"Zhizhi," his words carried a hint of laughter, deliberately slowing his speech, sounding extremely gentle, "be more forgiving towards me, okay?"

Hurriedly hanging up the phone, Shen Zhiyi didn’t dare lift her head and set her utensils aside.

Wang Feifei continued to probe, "What did he say?"

"Nothing much."

Since it was a private matter, Wang Feifei didn’t press further, but she looked at Shen Zhiyi suspiciously, "Why is your face red?"

"..." Shen Zhiyi denied outright, "You’re seeing things."
