Extreme Pampering -

Chapter 218: Chapter 214: If We Were Together Earlier②
At the end of August, Qin Fang’s birthday party was held at the Qin Family’s townhouse. Regardless of how favored he was by his biological father, he was nominally the only young master of the Qin Family, and the birthday party was grand enough, with many business partners of the Qin Family in attendance.
By evening, two Rolls-Royces with consecutive numbers drove into the underground garage, the first one being most conspicuous, recognized by many.
"The young master of the Pei Family has arrived," someone whispered quietly.
There were many children in the Pei Family, but recently only one had been the focus of attention. Father Pei often took this young master with him when discussing serious matters, clearly intending to cultivate him carefully. It was uncertain how much of Pei’s vast family business would be allotted to him, and people had already begun to quietly calculate, although this young master was not easy to please, and over the years only a few had managed to befriend him.
The car door opened, and Pei Yu stepped down from the vehicle, dressed formally for the banquet in a well-tailored white suit, his broad shoulders and long legs particularly striking, his stature tall and slender, embodying the unrestrained flair of youth, yet already beginning to show a hint of unusual sober sternness.
He habitually wore a cold expression, his face showing little emotion, his finely sculpted brows and eyes shrouded with frost, making those who wanted to approach him for a conversation unable to take a step forward.
From the following car, a tall young man in a black suit alighted, Fu Songzhi, softer in demeanor than Pei Yu but still not easy to get along with, quickly walked a few paces to catch up with Pei Yu, draping his arm loosely over his shoulder.
"What’s wrong, you look to be in a so-so mood today?"
It was common, as Pei Yu often had many bad moods, usually related to family matters. Father Pei valued him, yet trusted him little, let alone showed closeness; moreover, not one of his brothers and sisters were easy to deal with.
Pei Yu hummed lowly and briefly said, "They want me to study abroad."
It was common for children from rich families to study abroad, but Pei Yu’s situation was different. His brothers and sisters had already established themselves in Pei’s enterprises, and to send him out when he was still growing seemed blatantly malicious.
Fu Songzhi raised his eyebrows slightly, "Actually going might be alright, you can be more hands-on abroad, otherwise being monitored makes things too slow."
Others thought that this youngest master of the Pei Family was still in school, not yet fully fledged. Even if he was being strategically nurtured, he lacked a bit of seasoning. However, he and Qin Fang knew that Pei Yu, behind the Pei Family’s back, was planning something. He was resolute and ruthless, not trusting his hopes to anyone else; what he wanted, he would get himself, and nothing less.
Pei Yu lazily drooped his eyes, "Not going."
There was no room for discussion.
Although Fu Songzhi did not understand why he was so resolute, he spoke no further.
The villa’s banquet hall was connected to a vast courtyard that had already been properly arranged. Because it was Qin Fang’s birthday banquet, the attendees had brought their children, and looking around, there were mostly young people.
"Brother Pei! Songzhi!" As soon as Qin Fang saw them, he came running over, casually setting down his glass, "You’ve come, I’ve been looking for you."
The three found a table, the young men all tall and slender, striking in appearance. Standing together, they drew attention; everyone wanted to approach them, but knowing that Pei Yu disliked being with strangers, they hesitated and dared not come close.
Before long, Qin Xiaoran also arrived.
She had skipped a grade last year and had moved up to the first year of senior high this year, shorter than her peers but very lively, "Brother Pei Yu, Brother Songzhi."
Her arrival immediately shifted the topic, "Let me tell you, Uncle Shen has adopted a daughter. I just met her, and she seems a bit difficult to get along with."
Pei Yu let his eyes droop, his long eyelashes trembling slightly as he looked at the glass by his hand.
"Adopted a daughter?" Qin Fang was puzzled, "Their son is about to get married, and they’re adopting a daughter now, wanting to raise a child for fun?"
"Not a child," said Qin Xiaoran, "about the same age as me."
This time even Fu Songzhi was surprised enough to make a sound, "What’s the situation?"
"Shall we go have a look?" Qin Xiaoran suggested.
The two looked at Pei Yu, "Brother Pei, shall we go have a look?"
Pei Yu lifted his eyes, indifferently saying, "Whatever."
"Then let’s go," Qin Fang led the way, "I’m actually quite curious."
The courtyard where the banquet was held was vast, filled with abundant roses. It was the first time Shen Zhiyi had seen such beautiful flowers, and her gaze lingered on them for a while. She sat alone at an empty table, being the newcomer here, and hence, many people cast discreet glances at her, making her feel somewhat out of place.
Looking back, the two months after her adoption had passed like a dream. She had not anticipated that the family adopting her was so affluent, a life far beyond her imagination. Out of caution and bewilderment, she had barely spoken these days.
"Hello," a girl struck up a conversation with her.
Shen Zhiyi looked up and nodded politely, "Hello."
"I heard you were adopted by Uncle Shen," the girl said innocently, "Did you grow up in an orphanage?"
"No," Shen Zhiyi paused, "I have parents."
"I see," the girl smiled, "Then why were you adopted when you’re already so grown up... What benefit does Uncle Shen have in adopting you?"
This, too, was something Shen Zhiyi didn’t understand, but she wasn’t keen on discussing it with strangers, especially as this girl seemed not without malice.
Her eyes were clear and bright, quietly observing the other party.
"Boring," the girl found it uninteresting and shook her head as she walked away.
Qin Fang and others were observing this scene.
"Quite pretty," Qin Fang commented with interest, seeking validation from others, "Brother Pei, what do you think?"
Thinking he wouldn’t respond, but Pei Yu actually spoke up.
"Too thin." His tone was somewhat nonchalant.
Qin Fang was perplexed, "Thin? She does seem a little."
Only Fu Songzhi looked at Pei Yu in surprise.
"No one is playing with her," Qin Xiaoran said, "It’s a bit pitiful."
Qin Fang nudged her, "Why don’t you go then, don’t you like making friends?"
"I’m too shy," Qin Xiaoran stamped her foot, "Come with me!"
Qin Fang didn’t move, "I’m with Brother Pei right now, I’m not free."
Qin Xiaoran pouted, just about to scold him, when she saw Pei Yu suddenly take a step forward.
Realizing it, she was flattered, "Brother Pei Yu is really pampering me today."
Shen Zhiyi didn’t feel lonely; she was studying the glass of wine in front of her. Her understanding of alcohol was limited to the drinks her alcoholic father consumed, but this one was clearly different. She smelled a hint of aroma, debated for a long time, and slowly brought the glass to her lips, wanting to taste it.
A hand with distinct joints suddenly reached over and intercepted the glass.
"Ah?" she exclaimed quietly, then saw the young man standing beside her.
His attractive eyebrows were lowered, and his eyes were dark. The high bridge of his nose led to thin, beautiful lips that looked at her coolly, not speaking, as if waiting for something.
Shen Zhiyi was taken aback, looking into his eyes, hesitantly spoke, "Pei... Pei Yu?"
She still remembered his eyes.
Pei Yu’s lips were slightly pursed as he hummed in response.
