Pei Xiaoshi, under the watchful gaze of numerous guests, wobbled around the table full of various items, crawling a full circle, and each time he stopped, it elicited exclamations of surprise.

Pei Xiaoshi looked up at her with wide eyes, affectionately rubbing her palm as if he understood, and then continued crawling uncertainly forward.

In front of the baby lay a book, and it seemed he was heading straight for it.

With a "smack", Pei Xiaoshi slapped his little hand on the cover, and everyone thought that was his choice, ready to celebrate, only to see the baby swat the book to the ground. After removing the inconvenient object, he buried himself into the arms of Pei Yu, who was standing by the table, clinging to his shirt and happily blowing three spit bubbles.

Pei Yu looked down at him, their dark, shiny eyes meeting, and he raised an eyebrow, "Choose me?"

Pei Xiaoshi blew another spit bubble.

With a smile, Pei Yu lifted him up and said to Shen Zhiyi, "He chose me."

Shen Zhiyi, having guessed this outcome as the baby crawled toward him, curved her eyes, "Well chosen."

No one expected that, as the baby grew bigger, the person he would be most attached to turned out to be Pei Yu.

Pei Yu was the one who personally witnessed his first rollover, his first crawl, and his first steps.

Pei Xiaoshi learned to speak at a year and a half, when under the care of the butler, he was playing in the playroom and suddenly started fussing to find his mother, so the butler brought him to the master bedroom.

At that time, Shen Zhiyi had just returned from a two-day red carpet event out of town. Pei Yu had become very clingy after her return, the two making a ruckus in the bathroom and staying for a long time, almost falling asleep before Pei Yu carried him out.

She saw Pei Xiaoshi obediently playing with a ball on the bed and waved him over, "Baby, come here."

Pei Xiaoshi, still not walking very steadily, waddled over, gazing at her for a moment, then suddenly reached out to scratch her cheek, smiling and saying, "Zhi—Zhi—"

This was the baby’s first time speaking clearly and completely, Shen Zhiyi was taken aback for a moment, then looking at Pei Yu who had just come out of the bathroom, said, "Xiaoshi just spoke."

Pei Yu too paused, looking down at Pei Xiaoshi, "Say it again?"

Pei Xiaoshi, being taken care of by him for a long time, was quite responsive to his requests, and clearly repeated "Zhizhi", before turning to play ball again, flamboyantly shouting "Daddy".

Shen Zhiyi, smiling, hugged him to her chest and kissed his cheek twice, "How can the baby be so clever?"

Pei Yu’s eyes softened as he watched her play with the baby, "Maybe he’s imitating me."

The two exchanged a glance and laughed.

Following this, Pei Xiaoshi made rapid progress in speaking and walking. He loved to imitate others’ speech, and by not even two years old, he had an impressive vocabulary, but he still couldn’t form long sentences, always speaking in fragments, which sometimes led to unclear expressions.

One morning, he accompanied Shen Zhiyi to the set. Initially, he was meant to stay in the resting room, but as it was too small to contain him, he soon had Xiaodong bring him to find his mother.

The crew was in the middle of shooting, and Xiaodong found him a stool to sit and watch; Xiaoshi was quite bored initially, but then his spirits lifted after seeing Shen Zhiyi, his eyes nearly identical to hers.

They were shooting a historical drama, and at first, he watched obediently and silently, but his expression soon turned wrong because he saw Shen Zhiyi being stabbed with a sword by the male actor.

All of it was props, the blood bags were fake, but Pei Xiaoshi did not understand these things; he only knew that the glistening blade seemed very dangerous, and the color red of blood very frightening.

The usually well-behaved child suddenly started wailing, crying as he ran towards Shen Zhiyi, continuously shouting, "Daddy! Daddy!"

Everyone was startled, and Shen Zhiyi, not caring that she still had blood on her, quickly embraced the child, "What’s wrong? Xiaoshi?"
