Chapter 198: 198 Chapter Let’s go back and have a look.

Shen Zhiyi stayed with Pei Yu in the hospital the entire time, and the post-surgery examination results were very good, which somewhat eased her worry.

During this period, she turned down several jobs, and Wang Feifei didn’t arrange any others for her either, choosing instead to push back her schedule.

This pushback turned out to be half a month, and by the time Shen Zhiyi returned to the country with Pei Yu, it was already the start of the three hottest days of summer.

It was on that day that Qin Fang and Fu Songzhi found out that Pei Yu had gone abroad to have surgery without telling anyone, and they came to Huating to vent their anger on the same day.

"What were you thinking? Not even telling us about something like this? If it wasn’t for Xiaoran asking me why Zhiyi suddenly stopped all her work, I would still be in the dark about this!"

Qin Fang was so angry he wanted to curse, but since Pei Yu was in front of him, he definitely couldn’t vent that way; his face turned red, "Do you even consider us brothers at all?!"

That comment was quite harsh. Fu Songzhi made a noise as if to remind him, but didn’t say anything else.

Qin Fang didn’t make a sound, his expression bleak.

Shen Zhiyi, who was originally in the kitchen with the butler preparing desserts, came out when she heard the voices. Seeing the three brothers with cold faces, they looked ready to sever ties.

"Pei Yu didn’t tell me at the start either," she added a cup of tea for Qin Fang, "By the time I found out, he had already been wheeled into the operating room."

Bringing up the past, Pei Yu couldn’t maintain his cold expression and slightly bowed his head, appearing somewhat listless.

Qin Fang was so shocked that he temporarily lost his voice, "He didn’t even tell you?"

It has to be said, that made him feel somewhat more at ease.

"After all these years, aren’t you clear about what kind of person he is?" said Shen Zhiyi, "I found out myself, and thanks to Secretary Qin, otherwise I would have been kept in the dark just like you all."

During this month and a half, Secretary Qin had both labor and merit; her year-end bonus was sure to double.

"Knowing is one thing," Qin Fang was still indignant, "but that doesn’t stop me from being angry. How did he develop this way? Ever since I knew him, he never shared anything with anyone, always hiding both good news and bad."

"Probably was spoiled wrong," Shen Zhiyi laughed, "It’s strange that no one managed to straighten out this nature of his."

"Who would dare," Fu Songzhi helped himself to tea instead of letting her pour it, smiling gently, "Brother Pei had a worse temper back when he was younger than he does now."

As the three of them spoke ill of Pei Yu right in front of him, his face grew even more expressionless; not that he was angry, but after being severely dealt with by Shen Zhiyi, he truly had a taste of it.

After having dinner at Huating, Shen Zhiyi chatted with the two for a while, and by the time they left, Qin Fang had already looked as though nothing had happened.

Huating had ordered several new types of flower materials, and Shen Zhiyi discussed with the butler where to plant them in the gardens, inadvertently walking over to Pei Yu, who reached out to wrap his arms around her waist.

Her voice faltered slightly, she looked down at him, "What’s wrong?"

Pei Yu lowered his gaze to kiss her abdomen, "Are you still angry with me?"

Although half a month had passed, the sight of Shen Zhiyi crying before his eyes still haunted him, causing him lingering fear.

"No," Shen Zhiyi touched the hair at the back of his head, "I won’t stay angry for too long. Haven’t you already recognized your mistake?"

Pei Yu looked up at her, then suddenly asked, "So why haven’t you taken the initiative to kiss me these past few days?"

Apart from those innocent good morning kisses and good night kisses, all other affectionate gestures had completely ceased.

Shen Zhiyi blushed at his sudden question, instinctively glancing to the side, noticing that the butler had vanished at some point.

Pei Yu was still asking, "Hmm?"

"Isn’t it out of consideration for your wound?" Shen Zhiyi chuckled, "You still want kisses? Could your self-control even handle it?"

If they started something they couldn’t finish, he would be the one to suffer in the end.

"The stitches are out," Pei Yu was relentless, "Can we now?"

Shen Zhiyi was still worried, "Let’s wait a few more days."

"I asked the doctor," Pei Yu suddenly got up, carrying her upstairs, "We can do it now."

"When did you ask?" Shen Zhiyi realized, "You even asked the doctor about this, you really are..."

Two roses were placed by the bedside, with a very faint fragrance. Shen Zhiyi caught only a whiff before it was overwhelmed by Pei Yu’s scent.

The summer clothes were thin, and Shen Zhiyi’s silk dress was easily slipped off. Pei Yu’s burning palms touched her, making her squint.

The surgical wound on Pei Yu’s chest had already formed a scab, becoming even more conspicuous than before.

"Back then..." Shen Zhiyi kissed the scar, "were you almost... gone?"

She had learned about this wound from Secretary Qin and also knew then that the bullet that almost pierced Pei Yu’s heart was fired by Father Pei’s hand.

Pei Yu was silent for a while, then he took her hand, "No, he deliberately missed. He wouldn’t take my life."

At the time, the father and son’s power struggle had reached a feverish pitch. Aboard an overseas cruise ship, they negotiated a deal that would determine their victory or defeat. Pei Yu won, Father Pei shot at him, but as soon as they landed, Father Pei encountered a car accident and was utterly defeated.

Shen Zhiyi silently embraced him.

She too had some scars, which she had tried to remove when she first signed with the talent agency. Yet occasionally, upon examining herself, she still felt those scars firmly locked onto her body, remembering the origin of each one.

Unfortunately, they both had incompetent fathers.

After the affair, it was the wee hours of the morning. Shen Zhiyi, mindful of Pei Yu’s injury, didn’t let him exert himself for too long, so she had more energy after they finished than usual.

"I saw a few photos of you from when you were a child at Xiaoran’s place. Today, while chatting with the butler, she also showed me a few photo albums."

The Pei family had many children, and Pei Yu wasn’t particularly noticeable as a child. Even Father Pei neglected him due to his mother’s reasons. It wasn’t until he started middle school that Father Pei really began to value this son.

Shen Zhiyi found the album, "Is this you at thirteen?"

Pei Yu looked down.

It was a family portrait; thirteen-year-old Pei Yu stood at the very corner with one hand in his trouser pocket, gazing casually at the camera.

He had a young face, much like Father Pei’s, but he was not fond of smiling, nor as gentle as Father Pei.

"Yes," Pei Yu went through the album with her, seeing these photos for the first time, "Just started middle school."

"You look so cool," Shen Zhiyi said with a smile looking up at him, "If I had met you back then, I definitely wouldn’t have dared to talk to you."

Pei Yu raised an eyebrow, "Really?"

He had often heard others say he had a bad temper, but he didn’t really feel it himself; he just couldn’t be bothered with irrelevant people.

"I like this one the most," Shen Zhiyi showed him another photo.

The photo was taken at Meili Snow Mountain. Pei Yu was not yet eighteen, just a few months before he first met Shen Zhiyi. The tall and slender young man was looking up into the distance, his face delicate and aloof, exuding a sense of inaccessibility and pride.

Pei Yu told her, "Three months after this photo was taken, I met you."

Shen Zhiyi paused, so the person she met at that time actually looked like this?

A sudden impulse rose in her heart, "Let’s go back for a visit."

Back to where they first met.
