Chapter 191: Chapter 191: The Kiss Imprinted on the Chest.
The wedding was grand, but the ordinary guests did not have much time to see the couple. After the ceremony, Shen Zhiyi entered the inner hall and changed into a dress that was easier to move around in. She sat down with Pei Yu at the friends’ table.
"I never thought I would live to see this moment," Qin Fang, already half-drunk, said with great emotion, "I never imagined Brother Pei would get married, not in a million years."
Unlike Qin Fang, Pei Yu was not pressured by his parents to marry; he made his own decisions and was extremely picky. Even if Qin Fang got married, Pei Yu wouldn’t have.
Yet, the moment had not only arrived but had come much sooner than he had thought possible.
"That’s because you don’t know Sister Zhiyi," Qin Xiaoran said with squinting eyes, also slightly drunk, "If Pei Yu hadn’t met Sister Zhiyi, he definitely wouldn’t have married anyone else."
But they had met, even earlier than anyone knew.
Qin Fang did not know whether to feel distressed or happy, and he downed half a glass of wine in one gulp, not just drinking himself but also urging Pei Yu to drink.
Because of the special occasion, Pei Yu was unusually willing to drink at Qin Fang’s persuasion. Resting his head on his hand, he sipped his drink leisurely, his face quickly taking on a faint blush.
After chatting with Qin Xiaoran, Shen Zhiyi saw Pei Yu gazing down at her and gently touched the corner of his eye, smiling softly, "You’ve turned red here."
Pei Yu’s eyelids were thin, and when drunk, a light flush spread around his eyes, especially at the corners. At such times, the coldness in his gaze would subside, replaced by ripples that seemed like affection, making his looks inviting, as if he had many things he wanted to say.
Even having seen it a few times, Shen Zhiyi’s heart would flutter every time she saw him like this.
Pei Yu hummed softly and held her fingers, his voice a bit husky, "You like it."
He knew very well what about him Shen Zhiyi admired.
Shen Zhiyi smiled quietly and openly admitted, "I do, it’s very attractive."
Pei Yu never wore makeup, and now the flush at the corner of his eyes was like rouge. Looking at him, Shen Zhiyi even thought he was the bride for the day, her beauty.
Adoration was clearly visible in her eyes, and as Pei Yu was bathed in her gaze, it was like soaking in warm sunlight, his heart turned soft and mushy, and the three parts of inebriation turned into seven.
As the meal was almost finished, Duan Jiaze ran in, dressed in a little suit, "Auntie!"
Looking at Shen Zhiyi, his demeanor was a bit awkward, and he asked somewhat unnaturally, "Auntie, you look so beautiful today, can I take a photo with you?"
Children have their own social circles, and they post frequently. Shen Zhiyi often checked and agreed with a smile.
"How would you like to pose for the photo?"
Duan Jiaze heard the indulgence in her voice and immediately said, "Can you hold me?"
"You weigh thirty kilograms," Pei Yu looked up and said flatly, "Don’t you think that request is a bit much?"
Duan Jiaze’s face turned red with embarrassment when his weight was suddenly revealed in front of everyone, and though he wanted to argue with his uncle, he remembered his mother’s special instructions, urging him to behave, so he hung his head dejectedly, looking very disappointed.
Pei Yu lifted his eyelids slightly and said coolly, "Unless I’m the one holding you."
Duan Jiaze looked at him cautiously, "Then, Uncle, can you hold me?"
Without answering, Pei Yu gracefully stood up and extended a hand toward him.
"Thank you, Uncle!"
The child immediately beamed, delighted to be held in one arm by Pei Yu, grinning widely and completely forgetting that he only wanted to take a photo with Shen Zhiyi. Now, unexpectedly, Pei Yu was also in the picture.
Xiaodong took a few photos for them and said with a laugh, "You really look like a family of three."
In the future, when they have children, it should be just like this.
Shen Zhiyi pinched the chubby cheeks of a child, "It’s just a family of three, isn’t it?"
"Mm-hmm!" Duan Jiaze nodded vigorously, intoxicated by the pleasant fragrance coming from her, his heart swelling with joy, so dizzy that he couldn’t tell north from south.
He was so envious of his uncle!
The wedding reception ended in the afternoon, and only the close friends remained. Taking advantage of his uncle’s indulgence with a bit of coquetry, Duan Jiaze got the opportunity to stay overnight and sprawled on the couch to post on social media.
He wasn’t very good at writing, so he just posted a few emojis.
Soon, his friends from France commented, asking who the bride was.
He intended to say that she was his aunt, but for some reason, Duan Jiaze suddenly became astute and replied at the bottom — she’s my uncle’s wife.
The same meaning, but phrased in a roundabout way.
After the dinner, fireworks lit up the courtyard for half an hour. Shen Zhiyi looked up for a while, reminded of the fireworks festival she had seen on board the Muse, which she had initially thought was a coincidence. Only later did she realize that it wasn’t the day of a fireworks festival. Those fireworks were, accurately speaking, set off for her.
Pei Yu did many things but rarely let her know.
"Zhiyi," Fu Songzhi broke free from the drunken Qin Fang and came over, standing at a distance in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, "Although it’s not very auspicious to say this today, I still want to mention a few things. Now that you have officially become Mrs. Pei, you must never have regrets."
His eyes were calm, "Brother Pei can’t handle it."
Shen Zhiyi felt a strange sensation in her heart.
They all knew that Pei Yu loved her, loved her to the point of leaving no room for anything else. They all felt that Pei Yu loved Shen Zhiyi more than she loved him.
"I won’t regret it," Shen Zhiyi said calmly as another burst of fireworks lit up, "You may not believe it, but my love for Pei Yu is not less than his love for me. I am very cautious and prudent in love, once I decide, I don’t leave any way out for myself either."
She smiled slightly, "I will love him well."
She knew very well that she could speak with such certainty because the love Pei Yu had given her was so full and abundant, leaving no space for doubt or insecurity.
Serenade music filled the great hall, where a few began to dance lightly, slowly moving in step against the backdrop of ceaseless fireworks outside the window.
Shen Zhiyi straightened her dress hem and took Pei Yu’s extended hand, "I’m not good at dancing."
"It’s okay," Pei Yu lowered his gaze, one hand reaching to her waist, "We’ll take it slow."
The fireworks outside slowly faded away, and separated by just a wall, a new piano piece began in the warm hall, resonating with the silent night.
Qin Fang, with half his drunkenness faded, leaned on the couch to sober up, saying to Fu Songzhi, "I’m quite scared."
Scared of what?
Scared that Pei Yu will fall from grace after his moment of triumph. He is different from others, excessively proud; if broken once, he can’t be put back together again.
In this aspect, he’s very much like his mother.
Fu Songzhi poured himself a drink and pointed in a direction, prompting him to look, "Zhiyi is there to protect him."
Qin Fang looked up and saw, in the spacious hall, the newlywed couple interlacing their fingers, slowly moving their feet in time with the piano music. Shen Zhiyi, her face upturned, seemed to be saying something to Pei Yu, who after listening, subtly curved his lips and bent down to kiss her forehead.
Shen Zhiyi smiled, leaned into his embrace, and in a brief pause, placed a discreet kiss on Pei Yu’s heart.
