Chapter 170: Chapter 170 I want to see Pei Yu.

The rain came and went, finally stopping completely by nightfall. Tomorrow was set to be a long-lost sunny day.

Shen Zhiyi returned to Huating and began packing her belongings, startling the housekeeper.

She was observant and soon realized that Shen Zhiyi had been acting a bit off since a certain moment. Although unclear about the reason, the housekeeper was very worried that some past event involving Pei Yu had upset Shen Zhiyi, causing her to "run away from home."

Pei Yu was still in Washington and couldn’t rush back in a short time, so the housekeeper felt a heavy responsibility to find a way to make Shen Zhiyi stay.

"Is it really necessary for you to leave?" The housekeeper was worried, thinking about Pei Yu’s state the last time she moved out—such things must not happen a second time, "I heard the weather forecast say it’s going to rain again soon."

She could at least give her a chance to contact Pei Yu.

"The rain has stopped," Shen Zhiyi had deliberately waited a bit longer, making sure the weather was clear enough for planes to take off as usual before she started packing.

She didn’t plan to take much, just a few pieces of clothing. "I can’t wait. I need to leave now."

The housekeeper, distressed and at a loss for words, wondered what could be so urgent that she couldn’t wait to move out.

The year’s end was approaching, and with Shen Zhiyi’s departure, Huating would once again revert to its previous desolate state. If Pei Yu stayed upset, her year-end bonus would be at risk, possibly even losing her job next year. A job this easy and well-paying was hard to come by, and besides, they had known each other for so long—there was some affection there.

The more the housekeeper thought about it, the more anxious she became, and in desperation, she blocked Shen Zhiyi’s path.

"If you’re angry, you can scold Pei Yu. There’s no need to rush to move out. Can’t we talk things over?"

Shen Zhiyi found her path blocked and listening to this, finally realized the housekeeper had misunderstood and gave a rueful smile, "I’m not angry, and I’m not moving out. I’m flying to Washington."

She paused, then showed an embarrassed expression, "I want to see Pei Yu."

She wanted to see him and couldn’t wait a moment longer.

Housekeeper: "?"

Still not understanding the whole situation but assured there was no emotional crisis, the housekeeper was relieved to know her job was safe and there was still hope for her year-end bonus.

That night, under the cover of darkness, Shen Zhiyi boarded a plane bound for Washington.

When she left, it was still deep in the night, and after a flight of over ten hours, she arrived in Washington just past midnight. With the thick night on both sides, Shen Zhiyi had difficulty adjusting—it felt as if her long wait was no more than an instant.

Since this trip had been an impromptu decision, Shen Zhiyi hadn’t told Pei Yu, and now that she needed to find a hotel, she had no choice but to contact someone.

Thinking that Pei Yu might still be resting, Shen Zhiyi decided to call Secretary Qin, who was on stand-by 24 hours a day.

Secretary Qin answered promptly, "Miss Shen, Chairman Pei is currently resting at the hotel."

He thought Shen Zhiyi had forgotten about the significant time difference between the two places.

"I know," Shen Zhiyi stood by the roadside, the below-zero weather cold and dry, sneaking into the crevices of her clothes, "I’m at Washington’s international airport right now. Can you tell me which hotel Pei Yu is staying at?"

His shock at her words nearly made him jump out of bed. Secretary Qin glanced at the current time, "Miss Shen, do you have urgent business with Chairman Pei?"

She had flown all the way to find him.

"No urgent business," Shen Zhiyi’s voice was soft and sheepish, "I just want to see him."

There was silence on the line for a moment. When Secretary Qin spoke again, he had already reached the door of the room, "I’ve arranged a car to pick you up from the airport. It will take you directly to the hotel’s doorstep. We’ll meet there as you won’t be able to access the floors without someone to guide you."

He was very thorough in his work, Shen Zhiyi was directly delivered to the hotel by car, he had already been waiting downstairs for quite a while, and even brought her a hot cup of cocoa.

"Miss Shen," Secretary Qin, neatly dressed, pushed up his glasses, "Chairman Pei is in the presidential suite, here is the room card."

"Thank you," it was somewhat embarrassing to disturb him so late at night, Shen Zhiyi said softly, "Secretary Qin has been troubled."

Secretary Qin smiled faintly, "Miss Shen needn’t be polite with me."

The role he played as a secretary was not in vain; his salary was astonishingly high, and when Pei Yu was in a good mood, he even gave bonuses generously. It wasn’t just running errands at night he was willing to do – he would gladly work overnight if needed.

The temperature inside the hotel was comfortable, and the warm effect of the hot cocoa was also very good; by the time Shen Zhiyi reached the floor of Pei Yu’s suite, she no longer felt cold.

It was the time when the vast majority of people were deep in sleep. Shen Zhiyi opened the door very carefully, didn’t turn on any lights, and tiptoed into the bedroom.

The curtains were tightly drawn, and there was not a single ray of light in the room. Pei Yu had attended a banquet during the day and inevitably drank some alcohol, leading to some insomnia, whether it was because the alcohol was too strong or he was not used to sleeping alone. Additionally, being accustomed to staying alert when outside, the moment the door was pushed open, his eyes snapped open.

His eyes, already adapted to the darkness, could only make out a very vague silhouette in the thick night, and although he couldn’t see clearly, it was obviously a woman.

Some business partners had joked about introducing a female companion to him at the evening banquet, and now someone had delivered a woman to his room that night. Having experienced this many times, Pei Yu felt nothing but annoyance and thought about docking Secretary Qin’s bonus, wondering how he handled his duties, letting someone barge into his room like this.

He casually threw something from his nightstand in that direction, his tone both cold and harsh.

"Get out."

Even though he spoke in Chinese, the other person could understand his meaning from his tone.

The object hit the door with a crisp sound; it was a Patek Philippe watch.

Shen Zhiyi was genuinely frightened, she stepped back, her shoulder hitting the door, and the hot cocoa in her hand spilled all over the floor.

She blinked blankly, her tone gentle.

"Who are you telling to get out?"

Her voice wasn’t loud, but it immediately stunned Pei Yu, who almost instantly realized and seemed incredulous.

"Zhizhi?"

He turned on the small lamp on the bedside table, and Shen Zhiyi, unaccustomed to the sudden brightness, closed her eyes momentarily.

When she opened them again, Pei Yu had already approached her, seemingly in disbelief at the sudden encounter, his fingertips gently touched her face.

"Why are you here?"

Soon, he glanced down at the smashed watch and the dark stain on the carpet, took a deep breath, "Did it hurt you anywhere?"

Shen Zhiyi shook her head, but Pei Yu had already noticed the cocoa all over her hands, frowned, and began to wipe her hands with his sleepwear.

His tone was heavy, "I’m sorry, I didn’t know it was you."

Shen Zhiyi tilted her head, "Then who did you think it was, and who else would come?"

Raising his head to meet her deliberately naive gaze, Pei Yu helplessly kissed her still slightly cool cheeks, "I just didn’t expect you would come."
