Chapter 152: Chapter 152: It’s Actually Her Boss.
After the bad weather had completely passed, filming for the show resumed, and the house that had collapsed during the fierce storm was also repaired. The guests moved back in.
The filming continued for a week. After finishing the variety show, Shen Zhiyi immediately went to an out-of-town brand event. As soon as the event was over, without any delay, she flew to the opening ceremony of the film festival. She was in a non-stop state for several days, to the point where she was so tired when she returned to her hotel that she just wanted to fall asleep immediately and missed several of Pei Yu’s calls.
There was a dinner that night to celebrate the talent agency’s sixtieth anniversary. Not only would the company’s seniors attend, but the leadership would be there as well—skipping it was not an option. Wang Feifei even sent over a gown. When Xiaodong knocked on the door, Shen Zhiyi was still catching up on sleep.
Seeing that there was no answer from inside, Xiaodong guessed that Shen Zhiyi was still asleep, so she let herself in, placed the dress on the sofa, and went to wake Shen Zhiyi in the bedroom.
"Sister," Xiaodong, who had been busy with Shen Zhiyi for a few days, was also lacking sleep, and she yawned while speaking, "It’s time to get up. Take a shower to wake up; I’ll have the stylist come later."
Shen Zhiyi sat up hugging the blanket, and her first action was to check her phone, indeed, there were missed calls from Pei Yu.
She dialed back and got out of bed while lifting the comforter.
When the call connected, Pei Yu’s voice was both clear and calm. He didn’t need her to explain and guessed, "Fell asleep?"
"Yeah," Shen Zhiyi rubbed her eyes. She had worn contact lenses for too long these past days, her eyes were red and slightly sore. She couldn’t wear them today, "Too tired, but it should get better after tonight."
Pressed for time and needing to do styling, Shen Zhiyi did not like to talk on the phone with Pei Yu in front of others. She felt uncomfortable saying anything and ended the call without chatting for long.
After a flurry of activity, she finally arrived on time at the banquet venue. The attendees of this dinner were all artists and staff from the same company, which made it much more relaxed than other events. Shen Zhiyi chatted with people she knew for a while and then texted Qin Xiaoran on her phone. Xiaoran’s wedding was coming up, and she had been decorating her new house recently.
"Sister Zhiyi," Qin Xiaoran pouted, "I heard Brother Pei Yu bought a rosewood dining table at an auction house. Could you ask him if he could sell it to me?"
Shen Zhiyi hadn’t chatted much with Pei Yu recently, and they never talked long when they did. She didn’t even know he had bought a dining table, "I’ll ask for you later, but no promises."
"Just asking for me is great," Qin Xiaoran loudly said in front of Qin Fang, on purpose, "I asked Qin Fang to inquire for me, but he didn’t want to!"
"You think you can just take what Brother Pei fancied?" Qin Fang was exasperated with her, "I’m telling you not to waste your effort."
"It’s different when Sister Zhiyi asks," Qin Xiaoran retorted a few times at her brother, then hearing the sound of chatting and conversation on Shen Zhiyi’s side, asked, "Which banquet are you at?"
Shen Zhiyi mentioned the name of the talent agency and looked around, "Even the predecessors who have retired and terminated their contracts are attending."
The fact that these veteran artists were present to such a degree showed that the talent agency was quite proper in the treatment of its own people, no wonder so many strived to sign with them.
"Zhiyi," Wang Feifei finally found her and signaled to Shen Zhiyi with her hand.
"I’m going to meet the bosses now," Shen Zhiyi thought of the prospect of socializing and her mood drooped, but she had been with the company for less than a year and counted as a newcomer. There was no reason not to meet with the bosses, she sighed, "Hope it ends quickly."
Wang Feifei was indeed there to take Shen Zhiyi to see the bosses. They weaved through several tables and headed towards the middle of the room, "Several of the company’s directors are here. I’ll introduce you. No need to say much, just offer a toast and be polite."
As they spoke, she handed Shen Zhiyi a glass of white wine.
In the center of the hall, curved leather sofas surrounded round tables where directors in suits and leather shoes were talking in low voices. A glance revealed several veteran artists who had been extremely popular in the nineties, the atmosphere convivial and relaxed.
Not only was Wang Feifei leading her artist to mingle with the bosses, but other agents from the company had already taken advantage, with the more astute ones already chatting with a few directors.
Staying in a corner, Shen Zhiyi observed a new recruit who had just joined the company shmoozing quite well, quickly getting into conversation with the director beside them, eliciting a pleased smile. She listened while idly swirling her wine in the glass.
"Is that President Fu?" asked the newcomer, curious, "Does President Fu also have shares in our company?"
"Not only does he have them, he is our company’s largest shareholder," recalled the senior director, still remembering the dramatic board reshuffle from a few years ago when two young people emerged out of nowhere, completely transforming the company’s leadership.
President Fu?
Shen Zhiyi caught on to this name, wondering if this "President Fu" was the one she knew. As the newcomer in front of her shuffled to the side, her view suddenly widened.
And she could clearly see the "President Fu" they were referring to.
It was indeed Fu Songzhi.
At the same time, Fu Songzhi also looked over at her, their gazes meeting without surprise, as he raised his glass to her in greeting.
Shen Zhiyi was a bit stunned. Fu Songzhi was her company’s largest shareholder, her big boss?
When she had signed the contract, she only knew the president of the company and hadn’t inquired about the board members, let alone imagined Fu Songzhi would be one of them.
Had Fu Songzhi known all along that she was an artist under his talent agency?
"Miss Shen," Fu Songzhi nodded slightly, his demeanor still politely distant, yet with a subtle familiarity not evident with others, "Would you like to join us?"
Seeing that they knew each other, Wang Feifei immediately brought Shen Zhiyi over to greet him, while the nearby directors also turned their attention this way.
Shen Zhiyi clinked her glass with his, "I’ve just found out you’re essentially my boss."
They had met so many times, yet he never mentioned it.
Fu Songzhi chuckled, "If you put it that way, Brother Pei is too."
Shen Zhiyi was even more astonished, "Pei Yu?"
"The second-largest shareholder," Fu Songzhi said languidly, "Hasn’t he mentioned it to you?"
"No..." The news caught Shen Zhiyi off guard. It was one thing for Fu Songzhi not to mention it, but why hadn’t Pei Yu said anything?
Noticing her confusion and surprise, Fu Songzhi glanced at his watch, "He will be here soon, you can ask him directly."
Shen Zhiyi: "..."
Great, this guy didn’t even tell her they were attending the same dinner party.
Fu Songzhi gleaned something from her silence and fell silent himself, "He didn’t tell you he was coming?"
Shen Zhiyi shook her head.
Fu Songzhi: "...Perhaps he wanted to surprise you,"
"Just pretend I didn’t say anything."
