Chapter 120: Chapter 120 Don’t play drunk with me.
"Artist!" The friend who was drinking called out when he saw someone come out, "Where’s Qiming? Someone is looking for him!"
The artist hurried to the hotel management staff to get the key for unlocking doors. Upon hearing the call, he glanced over briefly, hardly taking the matter to heart, and casually replied, "He’s busy," before heading straight to the innermost rest room.
The friend relayed this message, but saw that the person had already followed behind the artist, walking towards the rest room.
When Pei Yu set out, he had thought a lot and hesitated repeatedly, making the car suddenly turn off the road to Huating. The mere thought of Meng Qiming possibly taking this opportunity to formally propose to her tonight set his heart ablaze, and completely threw him into disarray.
The man in front entered the rest room, and he reached out to stop the door from closing, coincidentally encountering the groggy Meng Qiming trying to leave.
Meng Qiming’s face showed an unhealthy flush. The moment Pei Yu saw him, he realized something, his face turned suddenly cold. He violently grasped at Meng’s collar, brow pressing down, eyes darkened, "Where is Shen Zhiyi?"
Without needing a response, the artist who was about to unlock the door suddenly turned around. His expression panicked for an instant, but by the time he regained his composure, it was already too late to hide anything.
Through a door, Shen Zhiyi vaguely heard Pei Yu’s voice. Worried that she was hallucinating due to nervousness, she hesitated before taking two steps towards the door, wanting to listen more carefully.
The door handle was twisted by someone, and the next moment, the sound of the lock being opened followed. Shen Zhiyi’s breath caught. Before she could retreat, the door was already open.
A few blur of lights passed in front of her eyes. Before she could see who the person was, the familiar scent of Agarwood enveloped her.
Shen Zhiyi was held frozen in Pei Yu’s embrace, his body carrying the coolness of the night, the scent of alcohol, and the smell of smoke, as chaotic as his emotions at the moment.
"You trust him just like that?" Pei Yu practically squeezed the words out of his throat. The overwhelming relief turned his already alcohol-tinged emotions even more uncontrollable, "He calls and you come, just like that? You don’t care? You don’t care that he’s setting a trap for you? Haven’t you learned your lesson from last time?"
His probing questions made the still-shocked Shen Zhiyi come to a halt. This wasn’t about whether she trusted Meng Qiming or not. When someone was constantly scheming against her, how could she possibly avoid every trap?
She struggled out of Pei Yu’s embrace, "Are you saying that I’m asking for this?"
Her wrist was tightly clamped, and with a little force, Pei Yu dragged her in front of him. His eyes reddened, his hostility apparent as he said word by word, "You shouldn’t trust him like this. Meng Qiming isn’t worthy."
He used a lot of strength and her wrist hurt. Shen Zhiyi looked up at him, annoyed, "Whether he’s worthy or not isn’t for you to decide."
She forcefully pulled his hand away, not wanting to stay here any longer, but Pei Yu blocked her way, "You’re still defending him now? What does he have that I don’t, Shen Zhiyi, Huo Heng, Meng Qiming, am I, Pei Yu, the only one who’s never pleased you, right?"
"Pei Yu!" Shen Zhiyi’s chest heaved as she stared at him determinedly, "Don’t act drunk with me."
She despised this the most.
Noise erupted from outside; it must have been the discovery of Meng Qiming. Having waited for a long time, Xiaodong also came up looking for someone. Shen Zhiyi pushed past Pei Yu and quickly walked out, running right into Xiaodong.
Her complexion was terrible, startling Xiaodong, "What happened?"
Wasn’t she supposed to meet with Meng Qiming? Could it be that he’d become furious with embarrassment and lashed out? But Meng Qiming didn’t seem like that type of person.
"We’ll talk about it when we get back," Shen Zhiyi’s voice trembled, steadying herself before calming down, "Don’t ask for now."
"Okay."
Xiaodong, full of concern, escorted her home.
The next day she went to work as usual. Just as the makeup artist was about to pack up everything, Shen Zhiyi called out to her.
"Cover this up for me too."
She looked down and saw a noticeable bruise on Shen Zhiyi’s wrist. "My god, how did this happen?"
As she applied concealer to the bruise, she carefully observed Shen Zhiyi’s expression. After hesitating for a while, she still asked in a low voice, "Did your boyfriend do this?"
The mark was clearly from being clenched. She didn’t know how much force it had taken to cause it, and although she hadn’t heard about Shen Zhiyi having a new romance, the makeup artist’s mind went straight to that possibility.
She sighed, "If that’s the case, you really shouldn’t take it lightly. Break up if you need to, or call the police if necessary."
Shen Zhiyi looked down, and upon hearing this, she chuckled, "Thank you."
In a calm voice, she said, "He was drunk and acting crazy."
"Did he do this when he was drunk?" The makeup artist was always ready to think the worst. "Does he have a tendency toward violence?"
Recalling the time she saw Pei Yu disciplining someone, Shen Zhiyi paused before responding, "No."
After finishing the first scene in the afternoon, Shen Zhiyi was reading the script so intently that she only noticed Meng Qiming’s third phone call when it came.
"Zhiyi," Meng Qiming’s voice was filled with deep regret. "I’m sorry, really sorry. I had no idea he would do that."
He was still in the hospital because of a severe allergic reaction to a component of the medication. If it hadn’t been discovered in time, he might have been in mortal peril. Only after waking up today did he realize what had happened.
"I did tell him that I liked you, and he knew I was rejected. He wanted to create another opportunity for me," Meng Qiming was filled with regret. "I didn’t know he would go to such lengths."
Even the best of friends can’t know everything about each other. Meng Qiming had never imagined that the artist would resort to such despicable tactics, just as the artist couldn’t have known about his allergy to medication.
"It has nothing to do with you," Shen Zhiyi turned a page in her script. "You don’t need to apologize to me."
He was a victim too, and his life had been in danger.
"This is something I should do. If I hadn’t invited you, you wouldn’t have encountered this," Meng Qiming was filled with guilt. "Is there anything I can do to make up for the harm done to you?"
"It’s not necessary."
Shen Zhiyi thought for a moment but decided to be straightforward, "Mr. Meng, I hope that in the future, we have no interaction outside of work matters."
Even without this incident, she didn’t want to have any personal entanglements with him.
"...Zhiyi," Meng Qiming was silent for a moment. "Okay, I understand."
"Also, I wanted to ask, how do you plan to deal with this matter?"
His voice was slightly hesitant. "The artist said he wants to meet you, to apologize. He deeply regrets what happened yesterday and blames it on a moment of folly."
"No need," Shen Zhiyi’s voice was cold. "Let him meet with my attorney."
"Attorney?"
Meng Qiming was surprised. He hadn’t expected Shen Zhiyi to handle the matter so formally; first, because she was a public figure and such publicity wouldn’t be beneficial for her, and second, because she hadn’t sustained any actual harm. Even if legal action was pursued, the outcome would likely not be too severe.
These matters are often best settled privately.
