Chapter 94: Chapter 94: Pursuit and Desire

The disassembled steam core provided Perfikot with more inspiration and insights, but there were also plenty of problems.

She had to recalculate a massive amount of data to determine the changes produced by the steam core after using "heavy water".

This included changes in output power and work curve, as well as changes in the entire steam core’s pressure, and even more data...

It could be said that Perfikot was essentially redesigning an entirely new steam core, the workload of which was imaginable.

However, for Perfikot, this was nothing unacceptable.

As a master-level Alchemist, Perfikot was confident in both her work and her abilities, and redesigning a steam core was merely a challenge worth anticipating for her.

Not to mention, once she completed the design and creation of this new steam core, she could delve into the new Jade Record.

Regarding the Jade Record, Perfikot had deepened her research these days, and she had to admit that it was indeed worthy of being called a divine artifact. Just the two functions currently exhibited had already shocked Perfikot.

The recognition ability of the Eye of Omniscience was a capability Perfikot had been accustomed to using for years. Although it seemed like merely adding descriptions to items, it remained extremely useful.

Not to mention, the ability to appraise the effects of items was already an exceedingly useful function.

Not to mention the analytic ability, which allows for very detailed analysis of an item, deducing the technologies needed to create it, and related technical information.

Even more remarkably, if Perfikot mastered more advanced technology, the analytic ability of the Eye of Omniscience would automatically update the technology and provide optimization plans using more advanced technology.

It could be said that as long as the user themselves possessed sufficient knowledge, just the two functions of the Eye of Omniscience were enough to make the user the greatest Alchemist in the world.

Perfikot dared not imagine if she could unfold the entire Jade Record and acquire all its capabilities, to what extent she could grow.

"Perhaps I could try using Alchemy to create a new world?" Perfikot stroked her smooth chin, her face showing an intriguing expression.

For an Alchemist, there are two lifelong pursuits: turning stone into gold and the perfect life. These are both pursuits of perfection, but the former seeks material perfection, the latter life perfection.

But for Perfikot, neither of these is a challenge anymore.

Turning stone into gold is merely transforming other substances into what Alchemy recognizes as the world’s most stable element—gold. This is ridiculously easy for Perfikot, who completed the creation of the Philosopher’s Stone.

As for perfect life, she herself represented perfect life, and her parents’ leftover research data could assist her in exploring this aspect.

With the help of the Philosopher’s Stone, Perfikot would find replicating her parents’ research effortless, she could even consider canning if she wished.

Thinking of canning, Perfikot raised her head to look at the floor-to-ceiling window of the laboratory, gazing at the sky beyond the window.

The clear deep blue sky was unclouded, appearing so tranquil and beautiful, yet Perfikot’s eyes pierced through the sky like blue silk, casting her gaze into the cosmic deep space.

"If I really manage to can, I might have the chance to lead humanity to the stars!" Perfikot felt her thoughts veering off but couldn’t help but imagine.

If she truly accomplished it, she’d earnestly hope humanity could look towards the cosmic deep space rather than like the original world, fixating on earthly interests, ultimately resulting in brain-bashing.

However, without this apocalypse, Perfikot might have some chance, as alchemy could realistically create rockets and difference engines could replace computers, enabling rockets to reach space even with manual operation.

But now? Humanity probably can only fixate their gaze on the black bread in their hands and the precarious roofs underfoot, as losing these truly means death.

With bellies unfilled, how would people have the energy to gaze at the stars?

Thus, after some self-mockery, Perfikot shifted her gaze back to the steam core in front of her, deciding to be more grounded.

She attempted some tweaks to the steam core, then reassembled it, infusing heavy water to make it operate again.

Before she disassembled the entire steam core, she had already run an experiment, which showed a threefold increase in output power. This was under the premise that the steam core wasn’t designed for high-expansion heavy water steam.

Perfikot was curious about how much energy could be generated after designing and adjusting specifically for high-expansion heavy water.

Then, Perfikot watched the high-speed rotating wheel in front of her and considered whether to add a gear transmission to the steam core.

Currently, the steam core’s output power was quite significant, though only threefold the prototype, it was still over-the-top.

With designs targeting heavy water specifically, the steam core’s output power could reach fourfold that of the prototype.

It could almost be said, Perfikot did virtually nothing, merely replaced ordinary water with heavy water, and the steam engine’s output power increased by at least threefold, some adjustments and tweaks could even double this figure.

This was incredibly frightening. If this news reached the Empire, Perfikot could imagine another statue in Langton University’s campus dedicated to her.

"If that’s the case, should I consider equipping steam knight armor with thrusters and have it try to fly?" Perfikot thought maybe it was worth a try, as the Wright Brothers’ first plane only had 12 horsepower, nearly within Perfikot’s reach.

She merely needed to remove the restraints specially added to limit output on the steam core, and this steam core could unleash over 40 horsepower of terrifying power.

This power was enough to truly enable a steam knight armor to fly, not relying on any mechanical toys to hoist or simply leap.

Just imagining old caretaker Foster or Eldest Princess Annie flying in the air gave Perfikot a headache, so she ultimately decided not to make a plane or add thrusters to the steam knight but rather focus better on reforming the steam core, researching heavy water and additives to develop a new model steam engine.
