Chapter 103: Chapter 103: Knight and Sandbox

Although Perfikot’s stamina couldn’t keep up, fortunately, she was surrounded by plenty of knights.

These Extraordinary individuals, while not possessing the abilities like fighting spirit seen in fantasy novels she read before crossing over, certainly had physical qualities that surpassed ordinary people.

The Knights tempered their bodies in various ways, honing their battle skills to surpass human limits.

Only by achieving this could one be called a true knight, which is a formal knight.

In the past Age of Knights, formal knights would be enfeoffed by the Empire, gain the knight title, and become part of the nobility.

Yet, they had to claim their fief through achievements on the battlefield, which was how the ancestors of the Brandelis family and the old Baron made their fortunes.

This breakthrough beyond human limits brought noble titles and riches, along with knights’ bodies that surpassed mortals.

Perfikot once measured Foster’s physical abilities with the old butler’s help; although age had weakened him, Foster still possessed at least three times the physical prowess of a normal person.

After Foster advanced to the rank of great knight and became a knight with honor titles, Perfikot tested him again to ensure the steam knight armor could fit him; Foster’s physical abilities were seven times that of a normal person then.

While it’s hard for ordinary folks to grasp what it means to have a physical ability seven times that of a normal person, simply put, Foster could still swiftly maneuver in the steam knight armor even if it lost its power.

Carrying Perfikot over mountainous terrain as if walking on flat ground is quite an easy task for a knight with an honor title.

Yet, Perfikot disliked being carried by others, even by the old butler Foster.

But when her strength was completely depleted and she could no longer walk, she had no choice but to accept being carried by Foster to keep up with the team.

Once Perfikot was carried, the team’s pace increased significantly, having been slowed previously to accommodate her.

Finally, as the sun set, the exploration team reached their planned camping spot at Eagle’s Beak Cliff.

It was named Eagle’s Beak Cliff because a massive rock jutted into the valley resembling an eagle’s beak.

Beneath the rock lay a rare flat area, adjacent to a small river that wasn’t very abundant in water, clearly formed by soil erosion and sediment over many years from this river.

As for exactly how many years, it’s hard to say.

Perfikot was not a geologist, so she couldn’t determine when this geological formation occurred, but at least she could tell the little river was formed by glacier meltwater.

Before sunset, with Foster’s assistance, she climbed up Eagle’s Beak cliff, taking in the distant peaks capped in pristine white.

"Fu grandpa, how do you view the terrain here?" Perfikot gazed downward, watching the busy exploration team below Eagle’s Beak Cliff, and considering the riverbank formed by the erosion wondered if this place could support a town.

"From a military standpoint, it’s easy to defend and hard to attack, with the mountain at our back and water in front, it’s indeed a good place." Foster’s perspective went beyond mere military considerations, offering noble butler-like advice: "If this were family territory, a castle could be built under this cliff, and the fields alongside the riverbank could be cultivated for farming or developed into villages and towns.

If a dam was constructed upstream, perhaps fishing would be possible? I think I saw a lake in that direction.

The surrounding timber might become an essential source of output and income for the territory, though Miss, you might prefer to build a workshop here?"

"If it were up to me, I’d hollow out the mountain and construct the castle within it." Perfikot tapped the rock beneath her with her walking stick, using alchemy to create a miniature sand table, explaining her ideas to Foster: "Building a dam upstream is a good idea, but considering the winter would freeze the lake, it’s not quite feasible.

If it were me, I’d connect the surrounding iron and coal mines via railway, refining the mined ore into steel, which is more lucrative than merely selling iron ore and timber."

As Perfikot conveyed her ideas, a thriving industrial city quickly emerged before her in miniature, showcasing her beautiful vision for the future.

But promptly, Perfikot conjured a flurry of snow, burying everything in an instant.

"However, now the apocalyptic winter looms as our greatest threat, compelling us to find ways to counter this menace first." Perfikot examined the city buried beneath artificial snowflakes, letting out a sigh before resetting everything: "First, we need to connect the coal and iron mines to acquire the steel and coal needed for construction.

Then hollow out the mountain, using the excavated rock as building material.

This way, we can construct a city hidden within the belly of the mountain, utilizing the mountain’s wall to block the cold’s encroachment."

Perfikot seemed to illustrate an imaginative scheme, yet Foster certainly wouldn’t interrupt her, attentively listening as miss expounded her plan.

"Given the scale of hollowing the mountain and the expenses and time required to construct such a city, it isn’t necessary to unveil an entire city from the start." Perfikot understood the cost involved, so she redesigned the mountain wall with a slew of buildings: "Thus, the city could initially be built against the mountain, gradually hollowing inwards while wrapping the outer city in mountain rock, creating a rocky layer outside the mountain.

Regarding this riverbank, we can similarly dig downwards; by excavating deeper here, it can also serve as part of the city’s district.

Thus, like when I asked Fu grandpa you before, by capping the trench, we could establish an underground city in a relatively straightforward manner."

"Indeed, it’s a genius idea; perhaps, only you, miss, could conceive such an exquisite plan." Foster sincerely praised miss Perfikot, his eyes filled with admiration.

Yet, Perfikot shook her head and sighed: "The plan is perfect of course, but even if I designed this city as flawlessly as possible, ultimately it saves only a few, while the vast majority of people in this world might not escape death."
